  • In this video I share a list of tools that might be useful to consider adding to your own toolbox that I have collated over the last 18 months or so whilst recovering from burnout to help me manage my energy levels.     I could cry having watched this video (or listened to, as I am avoiding screens and find listening more digestible!). Thank you so very much for sharing this. I am recovering from a restrictive eating disorder too and that along with being a late diagnosed autistic had led to me dwindling in and out of burnout (ie never fully acknowledging/healing from it). Have made some notes to come back to in my little notebook. The tip about flexible planning (forgive me if that isn’t how you would want to describe it it’s just my interpretation of it) and time blocking really appeals to me, as I have found the concept of planning an all or nothing idea, and frankly frightening! Something I find helpful when I do it is yoga nidra as it boosts my energy and calms my nervous system. Also I have changed from evening to morning showers and have a cold shot in the shower which helps (although I appreciate showers aren’t always accessible in burnout but for me not feeling clean exacerbated sensory stuff). Also have just fully deactivated all of my social media accounts apart from UA-cam and Substack, hoping this will help! Thanks again Charlie, amazing :)

    I recently discovered that there’s a medical term for this energy management called “pacing.” I’ve started using many of these techniques you’ve mentioned & they’ve been life changing! Still struggling to figure out how to best block my time, but I love your idea of just creating a block & then deciding what to do when you get there according to your energy that day. Brilliant! Thank you for sharing your experience with us similarly seeking folk that can’t afford or have received little practical help from the medical community.

    Loved this!! Just found your channel and subscribed. The caveat of “this worked for me but don’t view it as a moral failing if it doesn’t work for you” was quite appreciated-that’s a lesson I’m learning as a recovering perfectionist, so the reminder was timely. Can’t wait to watch more of your channel!

    This is wonderful, so many good ideas. While I was working I think I took better care of me energy. My priority was to function at work, to be financially independent. Now that I lost my job, due to the company being sold, and I'm not working atm I lost my routine but also I was so elated to have all this free time and I thought I didn't need a plan. Well, as soon as I have an obligation and have to be among people, I realise how easily I get tired, physically too. As I'm getting older I realise I need more and more rest too and I can take on less obligations than before and that's a process to accept as well. Thank you again for a great video!!

      ​@@charlierewilding I'd love to see this too! As someone in burnout and recently unmasked, I have no idea what I'm doing or how to get better - I'd love a visual of the time blocking to better understand how it works (if you don't mind doing one ofc!) Thanks for the great video :)

    Thanks again Charlie. This is something I struggle with, fluctuating energy levels. I'm also perimenopausal so this is definitely also contributing, it can be very frustrating. I'm not handling it very well at the moment, so this video was good timing. I watched a video by @hayley.honeyman the other day and for her different routines (morning, evening) she has three tiers, 'ideal, average (can't remember exactly what she calls this one), minimum' depending on her energy levels her morning and evening routine will look different, so she has structure, but also flexibility. I think you may have touched on this a while ago. I used to spend hours writing out routines and never sticking to them, so the idea of flexible energy dependent routines sounds ideal. I like how you manage this through time blocking, which I am starting to try a bit. I think it is easy for us adhders to go all guns at something when we have the energy (hyperfocus) and then suffer the consequences afterwards when we are then totally wiped out, its very frustrating. I like the idea of a burnout box 👍 I already minimise many stressors in my life as I've suffered from binge eating for 15ish years and stress was a massive trigger, so it became a clear priority, especially after many ultra stressful years with young children in a dysfunctional marriage and then going through a long drawn out divorce. Thanks again for the thoughtful/thought provoking videos.
