Ok but....I'm poor and tired of looking at my apartment's dated 80s kitchen. So I traded dated for slightly more contemporary tacky marble countertops because that was the only option sold at dollar general😂
Marble contact paper: I have a brand made for counter tops (EZ faux currently, but I used instant granite in the past). We have had it on our counters for 2 years and use it in a rental property andrew the tenants aren’t easy on them. It has held up wonderfully, there are no seams in the middle of the counter because it’s extra wide and it’s a less expensive alternative for an update on the marble trend. We spent 110 dollars total. It’s also heat resistant to 300 degrees.
Yes!!! I was coming on here to say something similar. Contact paper that is made for countertops holds up beautifully. I don't own my own house and it's fantastic for renting.
I have marble contact paper as a kitchen splashback, I used it to cover awefull brown tiles , not ready to do a full kitchen Reno yet , and it’s great to see if you really like to continue with the look before investing in the real thing , it looks really lovely
I’ve used marble contact paper in my utility room, and it was a game changer. Totally transformed the small worktop and the whole room itself, so I would highly recommend it on small surface areas.
It’s such a great option for renters. I don’t know why anyone would use it in a home they own unless they wanna change it frequently. But I 100% stand by contact paper so long as it’s made well (the ones from target ain’t it)
As a renter, contact paper is the only thing that makes my dated kitchen with laminate countertops tolerable 😭 I definitely steered clear of marble though, it’s for sure tacky, went for a plain white instead!
Ehh it got dirty pretty quickly but some scotch guard fixed that and made it easier to keep clean - the other thing I didn’t anticipate is that using dish ware on that same counter makes it way more at risk to little rips and tears. Such a bummer because it looked nice initially but I took it off for now and am suffering with ugly late 90s countertops haha - I did my cabinets instead though and changed all the hardware which made it somewhat prettier in the kitchen!
Exactly! Like here in the comments there are people who will really now go and throw the jars out because they are tired of seeing them in their kitchen. Like what? These jars have purpose - storing food instead of plastic containers, canning and everything. They are eco friendly, you can even take them to shopping without packaging and they are quite light and easy to store or carry around.
@@iamproffesionaltotally6397 Yes of course you don’t need to just store the food in them. There are endless possibilities with them. Its just that here in the comments everyone is now all of a sudden getting rid of them, just because they arent like what aesthetic/trendy anymore?
@@iamproffesionaltotally6397 Someone (hubby) super-glued some fabulous fancy dresser drawer handles on our Mason jars and now I have 4 great big fancy beer mugs.
I really enjoy watching you, and i think you are adorable, but I'm sorry - I just covered my very UGLY RENTAL countertops with the marble contact paper, and i love it - my new property manager saw it, and she asked how I got so lucky to get beautiful countertops - so, for me, it is great, and brings me joy. i can't change the floor, or the light fixture, but i could change the look of countertops, fridge and cabinet doors with CONTACT PAPER
If you rent, I think it's a great option!! Owning a home is definitely a different situation. Covering countertops with contact paper when you are trying to sell your home, just no. But absolutely in a rental situation!
I'm with you, Tina. I don't think renters want to pass it off as real marble. It's that anything is better than the ugly fake granite veneer from the '90s. It makes a huge difference to have the contact paper, even if it's a "cheap" upgrade. Even stick on backsplash can make a significant difference in a rental. My parents had custom white marble countertops made 2 years ago which they paid soooo much for. They are getting rid of them because they simply do not clean well. My mother has to baby them every day or so to keep them well maintained.
I’ve had marble contact paper on my kitchen counter for nearly 3 years and it still looks the same! Through grease, oil, spills, washing dishes, etc. still amazing lol
@@ArvinOlano I feel personally attacked 🤣🤣 I don't actually have any but I want to find a way to have flowers in my home that actually look real. Any suggestions my fabulous guru? Side note, that cardigan is everything 😍
I have contact paper on my apt countertops. Held up about two years like I needed it to. I would NEVER over granite or in my house. I’m moving and ready to see it go!
You are too cute! Others on UA-cam often come across really judgmental and not very likeable when doing these types of videos, but you are just a joy to watch! You aren’t slagging people off, or making people feel bad or inferior, you are just having fun with it! Which is what decorating your home should be; fun! Thanks for all the videos!
I just bought a glitter painting for my bedroom lol! I started laughing immediately! I watched and liked the entire video and two more. Im still hanging it.
I'm in an apartment and I have marble contact paper you have to buy the higher end paper and you have to be good at installing it. Also the pattern matters and the sizing does as well, you need to lay it with the least number of pieces. Mine is glossy and highly reflective held up great its been a year.
What brands do you recommend? I have never gotten contact papers because I’m a lazy ass person lol but seeing them quite handy for little touch ups or bigger ones with minimal cost sound great to me!
I agree! Contact paper can actually be a good choice for renters when you've done your homework. You don't always have to go with the most expensive ones to find a good quality one, Amazon reviews (with customer pics or videos!) are usually pretty helpful for determining which ones are actually good. I found a beautiful white granite contact paper that really elevated my kitchen. The brown laminate granite countertops clashed with the color my landlord chose to have the cabinet painted and I couldn't stand it. Mine's glossy, but some come in matte finishes. I don't regret buying& installing mine at all.
@@vanieLuna I got some nice marble roles from roserosa from Amazon. It came out well. My mom didn't realize it was juat contant paper. We had a dingy yellow, floral counter and back splash
I just came back from Marshall’s and a big glittery canvas caught my eye. I immediately thought, “WWAD? (What would Arvin do?” I stuck my nose up in the air, pursed my lips and sauntered away. Haha! You would have been so proud. 😉
I use mason jars for storing left over food and easy to freeze or use in the microwave. I don't own any plastic containers due to the toxins that leak into your food.
Never understood how people could drink from a big mason jar. They are too heavy and bulky to drink from. Be careful about glass that is made in China. It’s been known to leach lead into foods and liquids.
As a floral designer of 15 years, THANK YOU for addressing mason jars! If one more person asks for it one of us is getting hurt! So tired, so so very out.
Hello fellow floral designer!! One year we had a mass amount of brides bringing in their... Mason jars..😒 I never want to see another one cross my bench.
I’m not planning on changing anything about my room/ house and I’d say my style is very different from yours but I absolutely love your laugh so I like watching your videos lol ☺️
I recently hung a chair in my downstairs workout area and it is so relaxing and fun to swing in it. While not ideal for a living room, it does have its place. It’s basically a swing
I believe, as a Southerner, the mason jar trend came out of repurposing mason jars after you’ve eaten the food that was in the jars. I agree that it’s gone too far!
I agree with you on everything, except macrame. Even though I don't have any at the moment, I am attracted to the beautiful wall hangings. The really well done ones are elegant. I grew up in the era where macrame was very trendy and I learned how to do it and even made a hanging shelf with wooden shelves. I wish I had that now, to be honest. But, I am over the plant hangers.
I agree, it brings me back to my childhood... I love the plant hangers though, I've loved them since before they were trending, they just make me feel good lol and I love the natural look of them
It's also a regional thing, sometimes. There's a region in my country where macramé is basically a staple, it's what they're famous for. that and straw baskets, mats and pretty much anything they can make with it.
Ikr! when he said eternity, I thought they lasted forever. $400 for roses that last a year?!? You can get fresh flowers twice a week for a year at that price.
'Eternity flowers', really, really...do they last forever? And, then they get dusty! Better to buy fresh flowers and have a variety of blooms, like changing flowers (plants) depending on the season.
OMG I love my hanging chair! LOL It's on a stand and I call it my "porch" because I have NO outdoor space. It will eventually go outside or in a sunroom when I get a house.
I have a white leather chaise lounge which is in a corner and extends into the room. Behind it, I have a arc lamp which illuminates whatever I am reading while lounging. It works great because chaise lounges sit lower to the ground than most seating so a side table and reading lamp does not work. The width of the lounge also puts the side table lamp too far away. Visually it gives a sleek and modern look as well as being functional.
***raises hand slowly*** I have marble contact paper on my countertops in my kitchen 🤦♀️ I know I know! But I renovated my house and a kitchen remodel is last on the list (bought a fixer upper). Honestly…it’s going great. People always say how they love the countertops whenever they walk in my home. 9 months in (and I COOK in my kitchen)…no problems at all. No lifting no peeling. It serves its purpose for now and I’m happy with the look ☺️
This sounds odd but I just found you and you've inspired me to do what I should've done a decade ago - leave my situation and go for my dreams no matter what it might cost me. Thank you Arvin 😘
That’s the laugh I need after explaining a 45-minute class on Geometry and one of my kiddos telling me: I don’t understand. What don’t you understand? Can you pinpoint it? Kid: I didn’t understand anything 😆
I got a glittered art piece as a present and I was not the biggest fan of it so I gave it away to a friend. The person who gave it to me told me how expensive and that it’s one of a kind. Something in my heart said “nah, we can do better” 🤣
@@toosense the person who gave it to me got it for free and had similar pieces at their house. In her culture, it’s rude for me to return a gift so I was left with no other option.
After having mason jars for glasses for SIX years LOL..i threw them out. I just got so sick of seeing them in my kitchen love your channel. your videos crack me up. I can laugh at myself. And love how easy going you are.
I still like them for outdoors..I bought a few with birdcage wire wrapped around them for metal handles to wrap onto. They hang around the patio in the summer.
My daughter has a hanging chair AND is interested in the boho style. When you made that crack she was like “WHAT!” That’s too close to home!! I was cracking up with her reaction! Haha hehe!
I'd love to see a video about making bold colours work, like the right way to do bold accents, a completely bold colour space, or how to get complimentary bold colours that work in your space.
I laugh every time I hear the guy singing "oh hell no"!! I would love that to be my ringtone! I cannot believe people spend $400.00 on eternity roses! Eternity roses sound like something you would take to the cemetary.
I want that to be my ringtone for my job, any coworker, any and every single person that may call my phone except my kids and sometimes I want to play that for them 🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
The hanging chair... 1) Visual interest -Follow the line up to the ceiling. (And lighten the impact made on the lower than knee area, particularly as you move into a space. Heavy couches squatting on the ground, for example, might need a counterpoint.) 2) The calming effect of covering the back 180° (and a bit more). For those with sensory issues, autism, or even a significant skew towards introversion, a lack of 'nookiness,' especially where one might choose to socialize, is a serious issue. If your senses are ranging outward, particularly, going forth with more intensity, trying to connect with someone, the sense that projected effort doesn't have to cover anything behind you, or in your peripherals, is a great relief. Think of it like a person always having to whip their head about to take in two different simultaneous conversations on the instinctive level. 3) I would rather use floor furniture, or be in the air, or lounge on a divan any day. It can be utterly oppressive sitting on a thousand different versions of 'chair' day in and day out. Not only is the posture it promotes, awful for quite a few of us, but the lack of changing perspective, and the sameness of the vision are enough to bore a person to tears. I would rather have a hammock than a hanging chair, myself, but I can see where the impulse comes from. 4) There is no lifting that chair to vacume or mop under it, not once a week, once a month, or 'ye gads!' every decade. 5) Have you ever wanted to sit inside a soap bubble, suspended in a moment? Did you watch 'The Fountain,' and think you wanted to be in that bubble on the edge of that golden star, traveling by an entirely different notion of up or down, to or from?
I’ve never had so much fun getting absolutely ROASTED on my taste! 🤣 Over here with my arc lamp and macrame shelf just about to click on another video.
The problem is not the trends is how the are whorized to the point all originality dies with them. I instinctively love certain boho jewelry for example but now it makes me cringe for all the world market / forever 21 / Coachella crap that delegitimized the style and it’s meaning. Same with the overly luxurious stuff and so on. I think is because trends in the US mean nothing more than whatever you can commercialize :( don’t feel bad about it macrame was cool! Old real French design from the 00’s with all the really old furniture WAS cool. Some maximalism and mirrored furniture was cool. The problem is that all the copies are cheap, badly made and meant to be replace with the next trend.
@@luxxy209 Omg yes! I flipping HATE trends and all the people that follow them. Why can’t people decorate their homes based on their own personalities? Everything these days is just over killed
Once again…I agree. I do like an occasional macrame piece though. And I use to use mason jars to drink out of because I had them and so I used them. But I recently bought some timeless glasses and MY GOODNESS…I’m loving how elegant I feel even with such a simple change.
The cliche, "stop & smell the " roses" means that one should just enjoy the present.....live flowers remind us of that. ( I do have one eternal rose, but it is in my bedroom, in a bud vase - not in hat box, & it sits next to a picture of a dearly departed one!
We can agree to disagree on some of these opinions. To me, design is also about what makes you comfortable and gives a feeling of satisfaction in your space. There is no one design fits all rule. I’ve seen some gorgeous spaces that were designed to the Gawds but didn’t look enough like a home to me. It was too designed, too stark, to upscale. It almost looked like you needed an evening gown or a tuxedo to sit in the living room.
First of all, I just can't get enough of your personality. Also, the editing with the screams and the "oh hell no" is spot on! And regarding these trends, I can't believe people are actually buying into them... The only one I don't hate is the lamp. Can't wait for the kitchen renovation!
Marble contact paper can look really good, it depends where you buy and which “pattern” and how strong the black is. (Like I think it’s prettier more grayish/lighter). And some contact paper is waterproof. But I don’t have mine on the kitchen or bathroom countertops but on my makeup vanity. It’s sooo much prettier now
I've had THREE of those rose companies contact me to send me rose boxes for free and I've turned them down. I just don't like them and can't, in good conscience, promote them to my community. I mean where do they fit into nice decor? Nowhere!! BTW, you pushed me over the edge on a Vitruvi. I'm LOVING it!! 💖
I dont understand why anyone would spend so much money on one box of rose buds stuffed in a hat box when you can buy so many flowers to enjoy for a whole year or so.
I have the mason jars with the handles and while I don’t love the aesthetic anymore, they regular mouth fits perfect with my blender so I’m always making frozen coffee or little smoothies in them without having to bring out and clean the large blender cup. I also love that with the lids (that allow for reusable straws) if you happen to accidentally knock it off on your desk it’s so much less likely you’ll spill your drink over your computer. My hope is that I can find some classier ones that do all the things these do, because in the summer they are just so practical for me…
I hear him say "No gurl!" while waving his finger back and forth and shaking his head no. I wonder what people are thinking when I am giggling to myself as I put a pillow down because I heard the word of Arvin in my head.
I feel like mason jars can only fit a certain country/southern aesthetic, otherwise they just look out of place Of course that's just my opinion. If you love your mason jars then you do you
I'm so guilty of the macrame thing 🤣🤣🤣 I know it's outdated and a bit tacky at this point but the little patterns and hand made texture is so cozy to me and makes me happy! Also I got an arc lamp when I started decorating my house and now even though it's like off trend I can't get myself to give it up cause it's sentimental 😭 but I'm itching to get something new and more timeless now
I forever will love glitter. Even the scream and taunting laugh will not break my tacky heart. *Edit to add, I am in no way offended. I have my sparkly big girl pants on. 😂

You are so brave for calling out mason jars 🙏... it reminds me of the hilarious article "I Cannot Bear Another Summer Full of Mason Jars" by Clare Coffey and it speaks to me.
Well, I'm not fixing to pay $15, $20 for some dumb decorations for my bathroom or whatever. What happened to "recycle?" If I'm happy and frugal, I'm happy😁😁😉😉
I was surprised by the arc floor lamp, they have them at RH, pottery barn, and CB2.....I personally like them....not the ones stretching from one end to the other of the room...but the simple, small, single light ones. I did not like the "bless you" painted mason jars, but I think if one wants to use them as drinking glasses, storage, or maybe even some type of simple decor, it can be fine...it really depends on the person's style and execution of it. I don't think it would fit in with Arvin's deco!. I personally wasn't a fan of the can shaped drinking glass....I enjoy your vids, and personality....not offended like Billy Jean though!
I usually like to add texture with dog hair. Sometimes a little cat hair gets thrown in too. And it's really affordable and can cover any surface.

Haha, I'm not wasting my mason jars on crafts! Food storage is what they were made.for, and it's what they are good at😊.
As a renter, contact paper is the only thing that makes my dated kitchen with laminate countertops tolerable 😭 I definitely steered clear of marble though, it’s for sure tacky, went for a plain white instead!
Has it held up well?
Ehh it got dirty pretty quickly but some scotch guard fixed that and made it easier to keep clean - the other thing I didn’t anticipate is that using dish ware on that same counter makes it way more at risk to little rips and tears. Such a bummer because it looked nice initially but I took it off for now and am suffering with ugly late 90s countertops haha - I did my cabinets instead though and changed all the hardware which made it somewhat prettier in the kitchen!
Know the feeling. New is new.
Girl do what works for u. I totally understand why u did it. And even if it were marble.
I am curious - is it hard to wash off after u leave somewhere? Would an owner be upset?

My mason jars are full of veggies and jams. They are being used for their purpose...canning! Who knew😎
What?!? No moonshine, you are really limiting your mason jars capabilities.
@@iamproffesionaltotally6397 Yes of course you don’t need to just store the food in them. There are endless possibilities with them. Its just that here in the comments everyone is now all of a sudden getting rid of them, just because they arent like what aesthetic/trendy anymore?

I really enjoy watching you, and i think you are adorable, but I'm sorry - I just covered my very UGLY RENTAL countertops with the marble contact paper, and i love it - my new property manager saw it, and she asked how I got so lucky to get beautiful countertops - so, for me, it is great, and brings me joy. i can't change the floor, or the light fixture, but i could change the look of countertops, fridge and cabinet doors with CONTACT PAPER
I think contact paper in a rental situation is a wonderful thing personally. I have seen people do some really beautiful things with it.
If you rent, I think it's a great option!! Owning a home is definitely a different situation. Covering countertops with contact paper when you are trying to sell your home, just no. But absolutely in a rental situation!
Yeah sometimes he can sound a bit privileged. Love him though!

Yes, I'm in an apartment as well and was going to do this. I need to know what kind. I can't change out my counters
May I know where did you bought it?

I use mason jars for storing left over food and easy to freeze or use in the microwave. I don't own any plastic containers due to the toxins that leak into your food.
Never understood how people could drink from a big mason jar. They are too heavy and bulky to drink from. Be careful about glass that is made in China. It’s been known to leach lead into foods and liquids.

I feel like your laugh should be my ringtone lol love your channel!
That would be hilarious!!! lmao

Arvin gives the BEST home decor tips!!! These "eternity" roses are as tacky as they are expensive. Imagine the dust layer on them a year later 🤣🤣🤣
Ikr! when he said eternity, I thought they lasted forever.

Still love my hanging chairs on the patio! Definitely my favorite place to relax with a cozy blanket & book at night💗

The hanging chair...
1) Visual interest -Follow the line up to the ceiling. (And lighten the impact made on the lower than knee area, particularly as you move into a space. Heavy couches squatting on the ground, for example, might need a counterpoint.)
2) The calming effect of covering the back 180° (and a bit more).

The cliche, "stop & smell the " roses" means that one should just enjoy the present.....live flowers remind us of that. ( I do have one eternal rose, but it is in my bedroom, in a bud vase - not in hat box, & it sits next to a picture of a dearly departed one!
Who else is liking and commenting before watching Lol?! Love love love your laugh 😂
