I was already loving the video but the "where I hide my stash" comment laid me out laughing lol.. Instead of new wood this inspires me to use some of those scraps and cut offs from 2x4's now instead of burning them. Great concept for salvaging wood.
Loved how the little boxes turned out! Great tips on how to get a 45 deg angle on the little french cleat pieces and using your finger to guide the glue nozzle on thin pieces! I'm so glad Rockler is sponsoring this. They're a great company. I worked there for a decade.
Sounds like a lot of fun, and a great way to get the creative juices flowing. Now the quest of finding not one but 3 straight, clean 2x4s... :)
Straight? Surely you jest!
As someone with a handlebar mustache, I approve of this build.
Brilliant work, Chris! Really amazing pieces!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
You are very inspirational, never would have thought of cutting the 2X4 in such thin pieces to get what I needed. Thanks will give me more ideas in other things. Great job
Thank you very much Mike
This was great, I never would have thought of milling dimensional lumber down like that. This'll definitely be useful for making stuff for around the house with something other than plywood.
Great job Chris. Love the Laser cut box container. Great challenge for people to submit projects.
I love this idea! Have fun challenge. And your projects were awesome Chris!
Love your challenge Chris! My favorite is the all day build
Cool projects Chris. Love seeing you make the most of your laser.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Stache 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is cool dude, i did one of these last october. The time constraint really makes it tough! nicely done
Thanks Man! Totally missed your box video with the time constraints. I just went back and looked it up. That last one Is gorgeous
Excellent challenge, and work, Chris!
This is an awesome idea. Its amazing to see one piece of wood transform into your stash box.
Great job! I think the 2 hour product is especially impressive!
Killer idea for the box!!! Love it man!
Great idea Chris, can’t wait to see want people will make.
I'm like WOW! Thanks for sharing! Many blessings
The 'stache pulls are friggin' genius!!!!
Love it. Cool ideas. Really liked the tash handles.
Your ingenuity and imagination amaze me!
Over the Top ! Love it !!!
Love your work, Chris 👍
Great video!
& the "secret stache" box is so awesome! 😂🤣🤣
Really enjoyed you building!
Love it! The mustache drawers are awesome
Awesome box. I love these challenges.
This is a great idea. I just might have to give it a go.
And I really love the stash drawers.
Oh please do buddy I would love your take on this
Very cool. I may have to give this challenge a try.
This type of stuff is the reason why I recommend your channel to anyone who is getting into woodworking or making in general. Besides the cereal in the wood drawer s**t I don't know what that's all about lmao
Love contestants Go Bri!this is going to be so cool bri sent me over so glad you did your channel is so awesome now I’m going to go binge more of your videos tyvm have learned so much from you in just three videos God bless and looking forward to many of your videos
Hi Chris, this ia a great way to gey fellow woodworkers to be creative, trust you and your family are well, best regards from Australia.
That was awesome !!
Terrific challenge, and your examples are classic Glimpse Inside projects.
You're not the first maker I've seen use the wood glue/CA glue method, but you're the one who convinced me to start using it.
You know, Chris, you might consider modifying your sander mount to allow for vertical positioning, and offer an optional table for it to turn it into a poor man's tabletop disk sander.
Great idea. I was looking forward to a challenge I can participate in.
Great job!
Hola! 🖐Really cool projects, all three of them. Of course I like the bins the best, awesome drawer pulls . Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Love the drawer boxes. Makes me wish I had a CNC Laser. Keep your stuff coming.
Is this a legitimate reply from you? I will never sent a text message not knowing the person.
Sounds like fun!
Great job Chris
Phenomenal!
Love the idea. Ideas are forming 🤔
Nice work. I like to watch your videos , i don't self work in wood, but enjoy watch someone like you who makes a lot of interesting woodwork
Thank you for this I really appreciate that
Oh dang a Rockler store! We had one in Lee County and they closed it. This was YEARS ago too. I liked walking through there and smelling… the wood… Store? Idk. I can remember it still. Lol *shrug* Good luck everyone participating in the contest!!!
I thought I rip down 2x's more than most of us but you my friend take 1st place! Great video, really enjoy watching!
It's at times like this I wish I lived in the USA. Good luck to everyone entering.
Love the drawers
Glad to see your feeling better. I would love to take on the challenge, i'm sidelined right now from woodworking. I'm in the middle of a project now. My right knee is shot, need a replacement 😩. Good luck to all who enter
Whaaattttt Rockler at Town Center? Let’s go!!
I keep my stash in here....too good.
Awesome!!!
This is the reason for utube I know need more hours in the shop . Really like your channel .
Thank you very much Jack
Chris, man awesome! Great ideas. I'm gonna try and get into this, will try and do it, even if I don't turn them in. It'll be a blast. However just in case I do get them finished and turn them in. Then if the finish date and time.. Actually knowing you, you probably have all the info in the description of this video.. Anyhow, Looks like a lot of fun. Now I'm off to try and figure out what I'm gonna try and build. That always seems to be the hardest part for me. Later
Dude the small parts bin made of wood is genius!
Thank you so much Kurt
Love it.Probably won't participate as it is too hot in my garage shop to spend a full day out there. But I hope you get lots of entries.
I also don't have instagram.
Great contest. Hopefully next time I can play. Getting ready to move down to SC. My wood shop is getting packed up.
Absolutely next time. Best of luck with the moves sir
Awesome video as always!
I am sure there will be many very impressive builds in this challenge, which will make it a challenge for the judges to pick one winner in each category. It will also be an awesome way for makers to get their name out there.
Thanks Tom. Are you going to enter
I am definitely thinking about it, so yeah, more than likely. I think it will be fun. If nothing else, it will be a great learning experience.
Credit given where credit's due. Good job
Nice!
Big Panda Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Texas, USA 🐼 ❤ 🎀 👍 🧚♂ 🐈
God bless I need a laser 😍!
Awesome job man, good luck in the competition. The little stash box cabinet is 🔥 looks like a product you could market. Do them in varying sizes, 4 drawers, 6 drawers and so on.
Definitely getting the digital files for that already. Not sure about making it retail we shall see
Thanks again buddy
"I keep my stash in there." 😁
Love the draws
I’ll admit, the little French cleats are “adorable” but the mustaches make this video!
Well done my friend!! I am in excited to be a part of this challenge…
Thank you Joe nice seeing you today at Rockler as well
nice stash
Great idea. Wish I had the time to do this right now. Hey, I clicked on the Derek from Malden link, and the screen showed the “video is private”
A Rocker store and a big dollar Tree... Wooow that area's lucky
Yes 👏 cause that’s what I want to do- eat cereal from my workshop draws. Yummy
I really want to see what everyone can come up with. A lot of different backgrounds and skillsets.
Great challenge and I’m probably going to enter! What’s the ruling on using one 2x4 to finish another project? I would make a a piece out of the board, then attach it to an old wooden crate I have
need one in Las Vegas Nv.
I love the challenge. its a unique spin on the 2 x 4 challenge. However I hate that its limited to Instagram. I don't have it, never had, never will, so can't participate but will follow along to see what creative ideas come from this. Provided of course they are posted to YT.
aglimpseinsideprojects@gmail.com
I would hate to discourage anyone from doing this challenge. If you decide to participate send them to my email. Those can be official entries
Oh snap, I'm in Jax and didn't realize there was a Rockler store. [clears schedule tomorrow]
Keep your stache in there.... Hahaha!
Greetings. Do we have a winner yet and can we see all the entries. It would be interesting to see the entries.
Nice work. Very creative. It would have been neat to have a clock running on screen as you worked.
I bet!
Any plans of opening up shipping to Canada? I love the sander mount, but last time I checked out your website, it wasn't available for purchase from Canada.
I’ll definitely look into it. I shipped to Canada mini time we just do the whole thing through PayPal if that interests you usually it’s about 15 to 25 bucks shipping
Hi Chris. I'm already inspired by the challenge. Wheels are turning. This is gonna be fun.
I'm pretty into repurposing so I might actually try to recycle used 8ft 2x4s for my builds. Also, the '1 Day' challenge. Is it a silly question to ask what constitutes one day? Start and finish on the the same day? 24 hrs (collectively)? 8 hrs work day? Just a little clarity for fairness please.
Finally, can we assume that only one entry per category is allowed? That's kinda where I'm going anyway, but...
I'm anxious to follow your judges a bit for some ideas plus I'm always up for a good follow.
Good luck to all the participants and as always, I appreciate all you do.
Start and finish in one day. Essentially a one day built. Look forward to see what you come up with Greg thanks for your interest in the participation
you got a like just for keeping your 'stash in there
This SUCKS! LoL!
I would love to join this challenge. However, I'm having Nuclear Stress test Tuesday and Carpal tunnel surgery Wednesday. No way I could do all of this Monday (I just saw the video today on Aug 7). I love this challenge though and will definitely be following it. Good luck to all and a GREAT panel of judges. Chris you are Awesome. God bless.
You got till November 1 so if you’re feeling better before then by all means join them
@@AGlimpseInside There is a good chance I'll be better, or at least more healed, by then. When I had my right carpal tunnel repaired last year, which I highly recommend if anyone is scared to do it, it took about 1 week to get full motion back in my hand, about 4-6 weeks to get decent strength back and about 5 months to be completely back to normal. Well worth it. But after saying all that, I think I was back in the shop around 5 weeks but was very careful in what I did.
Thank you for the encouragement and I truly love your channel. Thank you and God bless.
Where did you say that local store was?
There should be a cedar fence board challange
making those little boxes would take me 4-5 years with my hand tools LOL, resawing takes FOREVER
Ripper 😑
@@LauRoot892 That's my name.
@@philipripper1522 where ya from ? How old are you ? Nice 😊 meeting ya !😑👅😊
Super excited to try this challenge. Couple of questions, are you allowed to use nails, screws, wire, nuts and bolts?
Absolutely Mechanical fasteners are great. We’re not gonna be too picky. Thanks for showing interest I’m so curious to see what everybody does
What about hinges for a box? I'm new here and I'd like to try this.
@@andymagicmansegal Yeah all good
Cool video! How long did it take to cut that stuff out on the Laser? Thanks, Gary
Cutting time was only about 20 or 30 minutes. But designing it in making sure everything lined up. Doing a few test cuts on plywood. Is what took the lion share of the time. I would say from start to finish that entire project took me about six hours
@@AGlimpseInside Thanks for the quick reply. I’m sure the design part was a pain. - Gary
So, this isn’t a question regarding the challenge. You used your laser to cut the drawers pieces, and the holder. Does the burned edges of the wood affect gluing? Does it make the joint weaker? Shout it be lightly sanded at least? Thx.
If it does keep the joints a bit weaker I don’t notice it plus again the piece is so small that I’m not all that concerned with it but I think I would’ve maybe flooded the surface let it dry and then glued it again had it been a bigger piece. But yeah I would say it’s probably not as strong as it or nearly would be if it didn’t have that burning affect
Does each thing we make (for each time class) need to more-or-less use a full 2x4? I make small puzzles and would use only a small length of 2x4 for each project. Unclear if this is within the rules.
No more than one each But Less is absolutely fine
Are there any other rules listed anywhere, specifically is this only open to the US?
I’m not sure if Rockler has international stores. So I’m gonna say this is US based only. But the rules are pretty simple just use the time constraints and use one 2 x 4 each anything else like hinges little feet or drawer poles no big deal you can make those or use pre-fabricated ones
I tough you were goin to use the 2x4 that way the are , now this proyects they don't look like 2x4 proyects.
Is there a time limit for submissions?
Of course you got the whole month of October. Contest ends November 1
I would have liked to have done this challenge, but I've been banned from instagram.
The thin cut jig is slick. I do the same using a feather board that is adjustable. Set it the distance you want from the blade. Slide it back. I did that for some crates I made using 2x4. The strips were nailed to the ends. I cut them custom to a shelf for my wife. Did every shelf with to hold things.
It was a great way to use scraps BTW!
Here by way of diresta
If East Fl. can have a Rockler why can't the west side of Fl have one like in Pensacola Fl.
I'll bet you'll get an entry from Josh Wright ... He's been doing this for years so some of you will have some homework and catching up to do...
Well,
The good news first. Your still in the running for U-Tube dad of the decade.
Now for the not so good news.
We (the undersigned) are considering revoking your wood working man card. Your use of the lazer isn't what we would consider a "wood working" tool in a contest such as this. And???? Your table saw doesn't allow you to cut a 8' 2x4???? Come on MAN!
Man card must be revoked for 3 weeks!
I know, I know, BUMMER DUDE! :)
Nice work on the boxes though. Glad to see you use some material besides plywood in a project!
Wasn’t really gonna entertain this but I figured why not. Contest was my idea. Luckily such a great company and such great makers got involved with me. Therefore I make the rules. I need to cut a 25 inch piece and I have too much stuff to the left of the table saw to do so. Only by an inch. I could cut a 36 inch piece no problem. But I was trying to utilize material. I hope this comes across as a Showville back-and-forth. But the deal is from hand tools to industrial machinery everything will be considered. But like I said a hand carved canoe has a great chance of winning Morceau over something like I did with the laser
To make it not look so ..... I guess the word is ugly. Lmao
6 minutes of shoutouts and rules really should have been - 1 minute of rules and at the end do the shoutouts......
OK. Next time I’ll take your advice. How many other interactions have we had. It must be a ton because I’m really gonna listen to what you have to say. Because I value your opinion
@@AGlimpseInside sheesh... coming back a bit hot. I was not flaming you, just offering an opinion so potentially more viewers don't lose interest and not watch the full video.
@@brycehustad1665 Understood thanks for clarifying
Show us you’re a real woodworker without using a CNC machine. I think not.
I never claimed to be a “real” woodworker. So what’s your point here
