Amazing pads and iconic keys - not to mention the really cool distorted leads (which I'm a really big fan of). This new boutique model might just be the best solution to my problem, thanks Roland!
Thanks Roland it's the kind of synth i want for so long, when i was 14 years old i could'nt afford the originale JD 800 , but i try so much the best at my local shop, i finaly get an MC 303 instead ^^
After having watched both the JD-08 and the JX-08 I'm still pretty excited about these new releases. However having both a JX-03 and JP-08 I'd like to say that usability would increase 10x by growing the size of the boxes. Why don't you go for 19" rack width with the option of adding rack ears to them? With a little bit bigger space and nobs (and 43 cm instead of 30 cm) it would be a lot easier using these boutiques. And hey, you skipped the pitch and modulation bars and upgraded to usb-c (which is good since micro-usb was never really fool proof), so I believe there would be a much bigger market for these gadgets by just increasing them in size to a boutique mark 2. And this would open up for a full-size keybed of 2 octaves or 3 octaves for the mini toylike keybed (which are really hard to use for someone who is used to play synth or hammer-action keys) and the missing pitch bender. Improve the series by making them a little more user friendly, please!
A rack format would be great for a lot of these boutiques, they feel just a little cramped for their large feature set. I prefer what Korg does. If they make a small synth, like the Monologue, they usually make it simplistic to match, which makes it a powerful little box that is quick to use. Same thing with the bass station 2. I am reading that I wasn't quite the only one jokingly suggesting a JD-800 in Boutique format. Well, the cramming worked with the SH-02, but your spaceship JD-800 would be a totally different ballpark. Still, you managed to surprise me once again. Just heard this wonderful news on Talking Synths on the Syntaur channel while they were actually talking about string machines, another love of mine. So it's by chance that this news came along. And the JX-8P as well. Come on, guys. This is incredible news. But yes, please make a Boutique JP-8000/8080, like asked (begged) in 50% of the comments. All my wet dreams will come true. Bravo!
Roland you have now have the best spokesperson and and someone how makes explanations so simplified. I have Dysgraphia show not tell and with simplistic words. Remember Einstein had Dysgraphia it took time and someone with the just that right something to open the doors of imagination. I love this guy.
I've been joking Roland should boutique the JD-800 for years, thinking it probably wouldn't be possible, as mammoth as the original was. Roland proved me wrong. And I want one.
The JD 800 was the main synth when I was initiated into the mysteries of MiDi, way back. Dude went on to top the charts in the UK for 40 weeks or so, working his magic. Nice of you to bring it up to date!
Looks and sounds good. Now: where's the backward compatibility? Five-part multitimbrality? Where are the SL-JD80 expansion card waveforms and patches? Where's the proper one-sound-per-key "Special Setup" for drums? And above all else, where's the JD-series SysEx compatibility? Seems odd to have crippled such a potentially powerful piece of kit.
@@garygood6593 Yeah, the original JD-800 has 5-part multitimbral functionality, including the "Special Setup" patch that allows a different sound with different synth parameters on every key.
@@msld_sound That's actually EXcluding the Special Setup. So 5+1 parts. But yeah, I don't get why they massacred it in that way... was it the cost of 128 voice polyphony? If so, wrong choice imo. 128/4 = 32 voices for a single 4-voice patch... How do you even use that? Except ambient stuff with Release Times of 100. At first, I was like, yay 128 voices now I'll have enough for all Parts... oh... right, ALL two of 'em. If there's no SYSEX I couldn't even program it externally with my OG JD-800, what a bummer... And why NONE of the expansion waves? Seriously, come on, memory isn't nearly as expensive now as back then, so WHY the heck not?... Had they pulled it all together with this one as PROPERLY as the JD-800, it would've been an instabuy for me. Now, no way. Come on Roland, get your sh*t together!
I really want them to make more D-05s. My original D-50 died after the D-05 went out of production )': Also, I agree, this could be a much more one to one unit like the D-05 was to the D-50.
Wow Roland this is amazing. Big fan of your products and own all of the Boutiques so far, a few doubles too haha. I’m surrounded by Roland. Also own some of your classic gear too from the 80s and 90s. Would love to try these new ones. Massive congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥
I imagine it'll sound the same as the VST.. half suspect the Roland ESC2/BMC chips are ARM quad cores with some extra DSP logic or such.. so they can easy cross-compile plugins from x64
What is the resolution of the faders? 0-256? I like the form factor of the boutiques but with 10mm faders, 1mm = 25 bytes. Hope tones won't be hard to dial in
Loved the JD800 so much and really excited to see and hear the new boutique version. Lovely demo, cant wait to get my hands and ears on it. It’s going to be a hit for a new generation of producers. Well done Roland! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️
Best boutique by far! You should have made a larger format version of this one (need not be 5 octaves necessarily)... hope something arises in that direction...
Pre-Ordered! I used to have the original JD-800. I am glad to see this JD-08 has up to 128 voice polyphony compared to the 24 of the original. It will make an even greater pad synth.
Yeah, where you see this info about polyphony? If this digital synth has only 4-voice polyphony at €410, or it can expand its polyphony with additional cost, it'll be another big joke for synth industry.
@@BlackBlofeld you can see on another comment of mine that Roland answered that poliphony Is 128 notes (depending on the structure of the patch), but you can see that comment to be sure ;)

@RolandChannel, is it sysx-compatible with the real JD800? I would love to have real-time MIDI control over this 128-voice expander box using the faders on the actual thing. Well, also sending the thoroughly collected patches to it... So is it possible, or is it a sealed blackbox?
I wonder if the JD-08 will be able to load the sysex files i collected many years for my JD-800... and what about the 8 cards collection from Roland... There are no card slots in the JD-08 we have to keep our OG JD's to use those cards.

Well done for Botique series. I'd need some other series as the faders are to small for me. Something Argon or Cobalt or Reface size would be welcome. Just need more travel room on the faders.
Sweet roland 👍🏻 2:30 i really dig the guitar stortion sound. This is a sound thats close to my sound pallette. Love it 🙏 Maybe a little premature, but when are we going to see a jp8000? Super saws in a small size would be super.
Great overview - really looking forward to this synth being available! Also, I bet it is available, but would like to confirm - can you assign the two patch slots to different midi channels to control them separately?
My JD-08 arrives tomorrow and I'm super-excited. I told myself last month that I didn't need anymore synths after buying a Hydrasynth but here we are 😂 It looks incredible. Great video. But that blue wire just getting in the way of your fingers really triggers my OCD 🙈
Wonderful Synth, this time Roland nailed it. It could still improve the next models with at least the amp section going analog, if this approach was taken with the JP-08 we would have had a masterpiece everyone wanted. I would not change my JP-08 for this but it's just personal taste. Otherwise amazing built.
I’ve been bummed out over failing to grab a boutique D50 while it was in production, but now I think one of these might fill that void. I realize they’re quite different, but I’d like some late 80s/early 90s style sounds to compliment my DX7 and analog synths. So yeah, very excited about this.
I cant believe they actually did it, id suggested a couple of years ago for the JD even though i thought that the panel controls would have been a problem in a small form factor, well done Roland for being able to do it! The big question is, does this come installed with all the additional ram cards?
That is amazing to hear. Great minds 🧠 👊 The JD-08 includes the original 64 presets from the JD-800, plus 21 new presets with total memory for 256 patches. The JD-08 includes the original 108 waveforms, multi-phase time variant envelopes, two-stage multi-effects, and tone sliders all found on the original JD-800.
@@rolandglobal Great minds indeed :) that's awesome! I used to have the Original JD back in 92', so it looks like i'll be throwing down some cash on this since trying to get an original these days is hard as the prices are going through the roof!
Excellent sounds and nice visual appearance but a big flaw with MIDI channels 4 and 5. If you use the JD-08 in a MIDI multitimbral configuration your channels 4 and 5 will generate a basic waveform on the JD-08 no matter which channels you choose. It is impossible to eliminate them, this is a fundamental flaw of the software. We have been waiting for months for an update that eliminates this major flaw.
Sounds good, but those faders are really breaking records; even smaller than the SH01A, somehow. Looks borderline useable. With such awesome capabilities it's really a shame these boxes aren't just a little bit bigger. Instead of having two camps, we would all be unified in loving the fuck out of them. More money for Roland. Ah well..
@@garygood6593 So... it's great for nipple-tweakers I guess... ;) I'd rather program it externally with the old JD-800... oh right, they didn't even implement that.
@@dunningkruger9084 No, the JD-800 sends SYSEX messages with the sliders, NO midi CC's whatsoever. It can respond to a couple, but none of those are associated with the sliders. Read the manual again. ALSO. The JD-08 lacks the Aftertouch modulation parameters from the JD-800, AT to LFO-pitch, AT to Filter, and AT to Amp. On the JD-800 I use these AT modulations to set up smoother modulations than the direct controllers. Cutoff for instance, which is VERY steppy on the regular controller... set AT-Filter mod to +/-10 or less, and you get real SMOOTH manual filter sweeps or live adjustments, and you can set each of the 4 tones to various amounts and various directions... Could be controlled externally by a midi controller sending aftertouch, or you could set the pedal mode to AT and plug an expression pedal in (or any potentiometer-knob with suitable resistance). Also, you can't really use AT for vibrato either on the JD-08, as you can on the JD-800... So... again, read the manual more carefully, especially the Sysex implementation part. It is THERE you find all the parameters, received and sent from the knobs on JD-800. No CC, unless you mean Sustain 64, Mod-wheel 01, Part Volume 07, Pan11 or the likes, which aren't associated with the slider UI. Edit: If you use the Mod wheel on the JD-800, it sends CC01... what other CCs did you find?
@@dunningkruger9084 JD-800 Reference Manual, pages 290-296, or V58-V64, there are the sysex. Before that you have the CCs. Page 288, the JD-800 can transmit 4 CCs... Mod, Volume, Pan and Hold. It sends midi sysex messages with the UI sliders, which the JD-08 cannot receive.
I think Roland should bring out jp8000 boutique or acb jp8000 for system 8..I also think they would sell like hot cakes..only if u can recreate that famous super saw
I love that Roland are scrabbling to stand out beside Behringer’s steady flow of clones. Behringer have set the standard for affordable, well made synth gear. It’s very healthy for the market and invaluable for the end user.
"well made" - in my experience the Neutron was shipped with broken MIDI implementation; it crashes every time within a half hour under simple MIDI note on-off. And in practical use the placement of the osc mixer knob between the osc tuning knobs is a UI/ergo disaster, tuning can fly off the handle easily with the slightest touch.
@roland, this is dope! Also if you made a synth focused on 90s RnB sounds, maybe collaborate with DeVante from Jodeci! You'd win the synth war! (I only have good ideas)
Well, Roland, you really outdid yourself with this one. I hope you release a firmware update for the old boutiques’ sequencers someday. They seem dwarfed by the new addition, their 16 step mono seq (that don’t even come closer to their original counterparts) are a waste on sound and potential.
Oh my! I thought it's only JX-08 released this month. But there is a replicate of JD-800 too!! Please make a replica of Roland D-10, D-50's brother, and don't lose it's multi-timbral functionality. If possible, add some new patches and new rhythm sets, including patches and rhythm sets to be compatible with General MIDi.
We're stoked that you love them! Thanks for the feedback. We already made D-50 boutique version called the D-05. However it is discontinued. www.roland.com/se/products/d-05/ The easiest way to get the D-50 from us now is through Roland Cloud: www.rolandcloud.com/catalog/legendary/d-50
Actually, a multi-timbral JD-08 would be my dream. I had the D10 and liked a lot to use it with an MMT-8, but the sounds of the JD are just much better. Although I already have a JV1010, I’ll probably buy this, for it’s portability.
@@rolandglobal I knew about D-05, but what I'm also expecting in Boutique series is D-50's brother, Roland D-10 or D-110 (rack module version of D-10). It also brings the legendary sounds of the 80s. Also, the Roland TR-707/727, although there is a Roland Cloud version and AIRA version, but people won't regret to have the Boutique version too.
@@matszh I like JD-800/990 and JV series, they are legend. Although they are beyond the sounds of D Series and D-50 is the most successful, but D-10 is something that we should not forget. Without D-10 there will be no Sound Canvas and General MIDI standard, because that's where the synth sound ideas came from, mostly are from D-10's patches (Ice Rains, Atmosphere, Echo Drop, Sweep Pad, etc).
Now that you guys are able to get eight voices out of a single Boutique synth, how's about making that available as a firmware upgrade for the entire line? It always struck me as nonsensical that the JP-08 and JU-06 didn't actually have eight or six voices, as the names would suggest.
Aren't all their boutiques all digital, virtual analog toys? They could have made 128 voices with fully multi timbrel, in the same size, no problem. The itsy bitsy teeny controls and toy keyboard make these units a joke instead of a proper usable desktop/rackable synth like other manufacturers make.
@@subs4794 With the exception of the SE-02, the other Boutiques are either ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) or DCB (Digital Circuit Behavior). Obviously the SE-02 is true analog.
Easily most interesting thing of all Boutiques. But it outgrew the format probably. In order to unfold its full potential you'd have to use external keyboard and probably even something like Faderfox. I wonder if they could release it as 49 or 61 full-size version with some longer throw faders. Behringer CAT's faders seem longer than these but still unusable. Every time I wanted to buy JP-08 or SE-02 I remind myself of that.
Don't think there were faders on the SE02, but your point is taken on the size. I liked the sound of my SE02 a lot, but the lack of class compliant USB audio was enough of a bummer that I parted with it. Mobile format hardware synths should be able to connect with phones and tablets IMO.
@@Leviathan-mj8gi I am unfamiliar with the original, never played one. I see this independently as an affordable polyphonic synth with wide sound palette and plenty of controls. There are not much options unfortunately besides Modal. Recently we witnessed analog monos renaissance. Now it's time for polys and I'm fine with digital.
@@Leviathan-mj8gi I don't have judgement on the usability of this device as I haven't used it, but to those suggesting mapping a midi controller ... if I'm going to map a big midi controller I might as well just use the JD-800 in roland cloud.

Why can't you commit to giving the products a better run? You guys should know first hand that somethings don't always get an audience initially but wind up getting a following much later on.
@@mrbreaker101 Um no... the boutiques I liked got retired relatively quickly. Why go through the trouble of design and launch of a product if you are just going to give up on it? I mean do I got to wait for Behringer to clone everything?
Roland please release a software update to the JX-08 to add the unison detune from the original! Then next Boutique we need is a Roland JP-8000 and call it the JP-8K since that synth will be 25 this year. Then we need a Jupiter 4 Boutique called the JP-04 but use ACB to make it since the 4 voice limitation would work since the og had only 4 voice. I've been joking Roland should boutique the JD-800 for years, thinking it probably wouldn't be possible, as mammoth as the original was.
Roland proved me wrong. And I want one.
Haha right?
🧡
It's a cute adorable little critter, gonna have to get one since I have the JD-800..... 2 of these monsters would be amazing together
The JD 800 was the main synth when I was initiated into the mysteries of MiDi, way back. Dude went on to top the charts in the UK for 40 weeks or so, working his magic. Nice of you to bring it up to date!
Stoked that you like it and thanks for sharing that story!
My prayers have been answered! Thank you Roland!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these!!!
Happy to serve! Thank you for your kind words ^^.
I’d actually like to see Behringer make clones of the boutique series
Ironic af 🤣🤣🤣
Srsly brud
@@eleven9286 what?
You know they will. And they will include sysex control too, unlike this unit. Im not knocking it, its still an amazing unit
If Roland will sue Alesis about a mesh drumhead patent, my gut tells me they might be more inclined to send a cease and desist for that matter.
707 & 727 GOTTA BE COMING SOON TOO I BET
Looks and sounds good. Now: where's the backward compatibility? Five-part multitimbrality? Where are the SL-JD80 expansion card waveforms and patches? Where's the proper one-sound-per-key "Special Setup" for drums? And above all else, where's the JD-series SysEx compatibility? Seems odd to have crippled such a potentially powerful piece of kit.
Wow, 5 part? Jesus
Be nice if it had all the jd990 card expansions and the ability to load your own tones/samples.
Good demo.
Looking forward to the inevitable comparison vids with the VST version.
Hope tones won't be hard to dial in
1mm = 25 _bits_
(a byte is 8 bits)
Loved the JD800 so much and really excited to see and hear the new boutique version. Lovely demo, cant wait to get my hands and ears on it. It’s going to be a hit for a new generation of producers. Well done Roland! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️
Thank you for the kind words. We can't wait to hear what you'll create with it! 🧡
Best boutique by far! You should have made a larger format version of this one (need not be 5 octaves necessarily)... hope something arises in that direction...
It already happened and was called JD-XA. :p
Will get this when it is available.
Pre-Ordered! I used to have the original JD-800. I am glad to see this JD-08 has up to 128 voice polyphony compared to the 24 of the original. It will make an even greater pad synth.
on thomann there is written only 4 poliphony voices, where yu find this info ?
Yeah, where you see this info about polyphony? If this digital synth has only 4-voice polyphony at €410, or it can expand its polyphony with additional cost, it'll be another big joke for synth industry.
@@BlackBlofeld you can see on another comment of mine that Roland answered that poliphony Is 128 notes (depending on the structure of the patch), but you can see that comment to be sure ;)
There VST version is more true to the original, especially Sound wise.
Plus 2 times cheaper.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 it's common talk that vst version on roland cloud ( made with ACB technology ) are a little more faithfull comparing to the zencore modal versions inside this two new roland boutique and inside new fantom and jupiter x/xm .. i agree with that imho
I just bought this synth and man its amazing! Ive been using it with your Galaxia software along side the drum machines for a jam!
When I grow up I want a Roland.
The synths look and sound awesome, and great presentation, but my favorite part of the video are the giant Lego block baffles!
😂
Dear Roland, this gentleman was the perfect pick for this video. Well delivered, great job and of course, great sounding synth! I just wish you guys would start building some more sturdy feeling products like you used to. Give me some weight! :)
Hey, what's the polyphony on these two new units, please? Thanks :)
Just sold my jd800 yesterday after getting the Keybed replaced, guess I know what I’m buying today 😮💨😍
🧡☺️ The timing!
The sound of berghain and tresor first floor !! Tangent gallery detroit 2017 aural memories !
😀🧡🔥
This guy's an excellent demo artist
@RolandChannel, is it sysx-compatible with the real JD800? I would love to have real-time MIDI control over this 128-voice expander box using the faders on the actual thing. Well, also sending the thoroughly collected patches to it...
So is it possible, or is it a sealed blackbox?
I wonder if the JD-08 will be able to load the sysex files i collected many years for my JD-800... and what about the 8 cards collection from Roland... There are no card slots in the JD-08 we have to keep our OG JD's to use those cards.
Sadly I don't think it will load JD-800 sysex.. the zenology JD-800 plugin doesn't
@@Wagoo yeah but thats software
Nice! A mini-JD-800, with a multi-directional sequencer... A great way to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of this little guy's Granddaddy!
Fantastic! More Boutiques! Collect them all. I need to buy a new rack for these new Boutiques! 😀
bravo roland.... fisrt roland synth i'm excited about since....well your sh01a !!! the sequencer looks awesome..exactly the thing that i can use, and trig in is the way to go.. ever since my sh101 and dr55 from way back in 1983 land its been my way of syncing . well done roland...proud of you xx
Well done for Botique series. I'd need some other series as the faders are to small for me. Something Argon or Cobalt or Reface size would be welcome. Just need more travel room on the faders.
Nice. I notice you filmed this in the Tardis too. Wish I could meet the Doctor one day.
Sweet roland 👍🏻 2:30 i really dig the guitar stortion sound. This is a sound thats close to my sound pallette. Love it 🙏
Maybe a little premature, but when are we going to see a jp8000? Super saws in a small size would be super.
Thumbs up for recording this from within a TARDIS.
Bringing the JD-800 back to life would not be possible without time travel. 😅
Hey! This is great news. What a treat.
Please could you let me know if this synth engine will accept the original JD-800 MIDI messages? 🤞🏽
Great overview - really looking forward to this synth being available!
Also, I bet it is available, but would like to confirm - can you assign the two patch slots to different midi channels to control them separately?
I would like to know this too.
Now i have one... playing it with my montage...
After the D50 , The JD800 was the last of my fav Roland synths
That's two for two then. Do you have a third fav?
Wish the sliders were longer, plenty of space above (who needs the graphics)! Make them all as long as the Palette sliders!
ok boomer :D
Now I want one!
I love the boutique series. If I was rich, I'd collect them all. Need to make palm sized mini versions so I can collect them.
What a synthesizer, love it
Love those distorted tones!
I cant believe they actually did it, id suggested a couple of years ago for the JD even though i thought that the panel controls would have been a problem in a small form factor, well done Roland for being able to do it! The big question is, does this come installed with all the additional ram cards?
That is amazing to hear. Great minds 🧠 👊
The JD-08 includes the original 64 presets from the JD-800, plus 21 new presets with total memory for 256 patches.
Can it be used as an editor for the JD990 like the original JD800 can?
That's the question.
damn that'd be sweet
I hope So.
Pleeeeeease Roland!
Yep preordered. This looks and sounds so awesome!
Vaporwave machine. This is the first boutique I think I'll buy
Let's go!
Ah well..
faders of the sh-01a are almost the same size as the ones on the original!
If you can tweak a nipple, you can tweak the knobs :p
It sends midi sysex messages with the UI sliders, which the JD-08 cannot receive.
i miss boutique synths
I think Roland should bring out jp8000 boutique or acb jp8000 for system 8..I also think they would sell like hot cakes..only if u can recreate that famous super saw
Sounds great! I see that 707 in the background 🧐 hopefully some news about that upcoming as well 🤞
Model expansions for mc707 would be amazing!
People seem to love it on reviews.
Look forward to it in Indonesia
I love that Roland are scrabbling to stand out beside Behringer’s steady flow of clones. Behringer have set the standard for affordable, well made synth gear. It’s very healthy for the market and invaluable for the end user.
"well made" - in my experience the Neutron was shipped with broken MIDI implementation; it crashes every time within a half hour under simple MIDI note on-off. And in practical use the placement of the osc mixer knob between the osc tuning knobs is a UI/ergo disaster, tuning can fly off the handle easily with the slightest touch.
I'd take a Roland over a Behringer any day! All that history where Behringer just steals it!
@roland, this is dope! Also if you made a synth focused on 90s RnB sounds, maybe collaborate with DeVante from Jodeci! You'd win the synth war! (I only have good ideas)
Jesus!! I want one!!!
However it is discontinued. www.roland.com/se/products/d-05/
The easiest way to get the D-50 from us now is through Roland Cloud: www.rolandcloud.com/catalog/legendary/d-50
@@rolandglobal a new batch of D-05 would be a great gift to us!
Please make more D-05 units. Please.
@@cubdukat so out of over a dozen boutique products, the only one that is not digital/virtual was made by Studio Electronics...
@@subs4794 There’s limitations due to the ACB, it’s not like using a plugin on a pc. Chain 2 together, still cheaper and more reliable.
Behringer's have no memory, and it's every time pushes me away from their prehistoric synths :D
A microkorg sized boutique JD08 would be amazing indeed!
@@Leviathan-mj8gi I don't have judgement on the usability of this device as I haven't used it, but to those suggesting mapping a midi controller ... if I'm going to map a big midi controller I might as well just use the JD-800 in roland cloud.

Excellent. Where can I get that hoodie?
I wonder if the JD-08 will work as a JD 990 controller :-)) that would be a great feature !
Roland do not seem to be replying to this question , it would be a opportunity missed if they did not implement it in my opinion.
I hope these are produced alittle longer than some of the other boutiques.... I feel some of them I was going to buy got retired before I ever got the chance to buy them. Why can't you commit to giving the products a better run? You guys should know first hand that somethings don't always get an audience initially but wind up getting a following much later on.
I think they've stopped doing that now.
@@mrbreaker101 Um no... the boutiques I liked got retired relatively quickly. Why go through the trouble of design and launch of a product if you are just going to give up on it? I mean do I got to wait for Behringer to clone everything?
@@BoomBubbleBustRepeat Point is the new ones are no longer limited edition runs. I know, it's annoying though. And bad business practice!

Then we need an updated JP-08a that would get the JX-08 treatment with more voices, all the features from the original Jupiter 8, and the Jupiter 6 included with it too!
