I use both hooks, change over when my hand pain is bad. I have used soft touch for years, I like short hooks , and both work for me, Amour are so good too. Have tried others, as hand pain is awful at times. These two are my besties, but I will always try new , alas up to now no go. Have a big collection of no use hooks , but I donate to friends and family. Thank you
Hi Pat 👋 That's a really fantastic strategy to switch between them! Like you, I like to try new hooks too, and like you, I give them to friends and family to use 😊 thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me 🤗💗
I agree that the way that we crochet makes the difference between a hook that works and a hook that doesn't work for us. I used to be a strict pencil grip gal. It is the way I was taught to hold the hook. Then my hands and joints stiffened and I switched grips. My hand that feeds the yarn is more active than the hand that holds the hook. I'm a "thrower" and don't move the hook much, so I just park the end of that hook in the outer cup of my right hand when I work. For the most part, the end of the hook of the needle faces me and then faces down as I complete a stitch. It is interesting to see all the different techniques and dynamics that go into crocheting. I never realized until UA-cam how many different ways people crochet. There is really no right or wrong way. I like both kinds of clover hooks and that they have the soft handles on what used to be only steel hooks for the finer yarns. Thanks for another great upbeat video. Take care.
Hiya 👋 Thanks for watching and for your comment 😃💗 You sound like you have a really interesting crochet technique! I agree with you that there is no right or wrong way to crochet, just whatever works for you. I really love hearing everybody's stories about how they learnt and why they do things they way that they do. It's always so interesting! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊💗
Woohoo I found another “thrower” ❤ I changed up my crochet style when I had wrist surgery to this technique so I’m not twisting my wrist as much. It feels like a combo of crochet and how I knit. It might look funky to some folks but it works and our joints are happy!!!
What’s not to love about The Amour? Nothing, yet I do use the shorter hook 1-3 mm for finer yarns and threads, as they are lighter to hold, and use. I prefer these lighter, shorter hooks, but use My Amours ❤much more often lately with Christmas hats, caps and heavier weights. ❤❤❤😊
Hi Margaret 👋 I genuinely can't recommend them highly enough! 😊 Maybe give one a try and see if it suits your technique? 🤔 That way, you haven't bought a whole set, and you can try it out first to see what you think before committing to a whole set of hooks? 🧶
I have a couple of the Clover gold ones. I enjoy them. I'm having trouble finding those in my area. They are more expensive online. I have not used the colorful handled crochet hooks by Clover. I enjoy the Tulips as well. I have Susan Bates. The handles are harder and longer on them. I use them for different yarns. Snaggy at times.
Oh, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me 🙏 💗 I hear Susan Bates are fantastic hooks to work with if you enjoy in line hooks. I don't mind them, I just prefer tapered hooks. They have a great reputation in the crochet community, much like Furls hooks. Have you tried any of those? I found the coloured Clover Amour's to have a much softer and pliable grip than the gold Soft Touch's, but I know a lot of people do prefer the soft touch hooks. I hope you find some more soft touch hooks soon! 💜💗
Same here, the shorter hooks dig into my palm. I deal with it though, because I haven’t found anything that matches the smoothness of the Clover brand. I just wish they made longer handles.
Hi Kylie4Queen 👋 Thanks for your comment 💗 The Clover Amours are definitely the way to go if you prefer the longer handles, like me. They are fantastic hooks and just glide through yarn. Great ergonomic shaped grip, too! 😊
Hi Angela 👋 Speaking as a fellow giant hander 😆 I would definitely recommend the amours over the soft touch's just for the longer handles. It's much more comfortable to work with, just because of the extra length 😊
I'm a Clover Amour fan, too! Those are the hooks I reach for most often. I do have a few from Furls that I also love. I'm with you on the pencil grip..I've tried to do it and it slows me down so much! Props to those who use the pencil grip..I don't know how you do it!
Hi Rhonda 👋 Thanks for watching and for your comment! 😊💗 Yes, I have a lot of respect for pencil grip users! I simply can not do it! It looks more elegant to me, too. Never mind, as long as I can crochet, I'm happy 😊💗
Thanks for this review Mel. I love my Clover Amour hooks and Ive been wondering about the Soft Touch but I’m with you on the longer handle and the grip so I won’t be trying a Soft Touch now. I’ll stick with what I love.
Hi Maureen, always lovely to hear from you 🤗💗 Yes, if you're like me and need that extra length in the handle of your hooks, then save your money. It's a shame because the heads are absolutely lovely, it's just the handle that I had a problem with 😊 Thanks for watching! 🤗💗
Thanks for this review! 😉 I’m wondering about the difference between the glide in the Soft Touch vs the Amour. I tend to reach for my black & gold Tulips quite a bit, as well as the solid aluminum gold Tulips and double-ended Hamanakas… seems to be something I like in the way the gold finish hooks glide for me (but still love Clover Amour!). 🩵🧶🩵
Hiya 👋 thanks for your lovely comment 🤗💗 that's really interesting, isn't it? I don't really feel much of a difference between the gold and the standard aluminium, even between the Tulips and both the Clovers, but it's interesting that you can. I wonder why? 🤔 Both of them have an exceptionally smooth glide, don't they? Truly lovely hooks to work with 🤗💗🧶
@@MelsYarniverse Yes, so interesting! If I spent as much time crocheting as I do researching and trying out different hooks I would be so productive! 🤣🩵
Clover are the only hooks I use. I love the soft touch because my hands are small. The one thing I dislike about clover is that when you reach a 6.5MM they are all plastic from that point. I don’t like plastic hooks as they don’t glide as well and they make a weird sound when they pass through the yarn.
@@marybethtanner959 That's ok, you can always come back to crochet whenever you're ready 😊🧶 What are you sewing? Are you enjoying it? As long as it makes you happy 🤗💗

Exactly!!! Amours are just the perfect hook, I think, particularly for heavier gauge yarns, as you said 😃 Thanks for sharing your opinion 🤗💗🌺💗
Thanks Mel for your review. I think I need to get a set of Clover Amour hooks!
