I live in Pennsylvania in the U.S.. I shocked how much the Red Heart yarn cost. Here in the States the cost is $7.98/skein. I've worked with this yarn for many years and love it. The drape is really nice and easy to knit with. As it's not the softest yarn available, I recommend using fabric softener when you wash it. It gets much softer. I also am a big fan of Premier yarn as well. Hope you love the yarns as much as I do. Happy crocheting. 😊

Hi Katie 🤗 Thank you so much for your lovely comment 🙏💜
I'm looking forward to working with the Red Heart yarn, mainly because I've seen so many other people work with it - although I do hear it's a little stiff and not as soft as people like. Thanks for the tip about the fabric softener - hopefully that'll do the trick! 😃
The Premier feels super soft, so also looking forward to working with that too! I hope it works up ok and doesn't shed too much. I will definitely let you know how I go working with it 😊

As an Aussie I’ve been purchasing Parfait Chunky from Craft Online for some time now. Up until recently it has been my go to. (Colour availability is often an issue) I still don’t mind using it, however have now gravitated to a new Aussie brand called Scarli. Larissa is a lovely young lady and her ‘Teddy Bakery’ yarn is lovely to work with. She is working on getting more colours but it only launched this year. I find it to be a bit ‘fuller’ than parfait chunky. Having said that, the two brands work well enough together. I’ve used the Moda Vera blankie yarn as well, it is much thicker than both. Hope you enjoy your new yarns 😊

I loved my manual ball winder for many years, but this past week I've been LOVING this electric ball winder I was gifted. My entire stash is in stunning cakes. It's the CAYDO one that T.L Yarncrafts recommended. Pricy, but my god it's good. the cakes it makes are so pretty. I use two balls of the Lily sugar and cream to make mesh shopping bags. They're so nice and hold so much thrifted yarn :p

Oh, I'm so glad to hear someone else has found it in there as well! Did you find solid colours, which ones have you found before? Sorry to jump on this and hope Mel sees and replies as well, but I just get so excited when I find any yarn that I know is red heart super saver in the mill ends, one of the best things to find knowing how much it costs otherwise!!
I went on what I called a scavenger hunt when I wanted to track down some of the different colourways of the all in one granny square yarn, and went to all the possible Spotlight stores in SA that I could reach by bus and train in order to find what I was looking for, it was exhausting but a lot of fun!
I was quite successful in the end but some didn't have much, but now I know which stores are better than others, so can return to them again! I have actually found some of the brand new flower power yarn, three different colourways now, but am hoping one day to find the cherry blossom one and the green and pink shade one, they are lovely! I found one that's called dried bouquet, what a gorgeous name! :)

Craft online one of my favourite 'shops' over here as are American Yarns. American yarns is a good place to go for Caron Soft yarn. Maybe you should have gotten a few more balls of each, especially the bubble gum eh? 😉
I have a bucket that I put the balls into that I am winding from, just watch they don't jump out at you 🤣maybe I need to put the lid on the bucket, this one has a hole in it for some other previous life purpose.
I have some of that sugar and cream, I will look forward to what you make. I might actually grab mine out and make a bandanna, with this and another cotton from Spotties. Summer is coming and my hair gets out of hand.
Red Heart is great for patterns. Mikey from The Crochet Crowd pretty much always uses theirs. I think the Spotsaver is an American style yarn.
And of course I went looking at that new to me site didn't I? 🤣🤣🤣
Spot saver does have a few nice variegated yarns and the tweed is a nice colour way.
My husband had a chuckle about the 'I won't need to buy any more yarn for a while' he hears that from me about yarn and craft items 😂
    Enjoy creating.

And yes, Red Heart have a lot of great patterns available on their website - so do Yarnspirations which I think make (or distribute) the sugar and creme cotton - lots of really nice patterns on their website too.
oh yes, I forgot about the variegated spotsaver yarns! They had a really nice autumn looking one that I really liked the look of too.
Hope you have a lovely evening my friend 🌸💜

Hey 👋 from USA, enjoy your yarns, looking forward to seeing your items.
Premier is an American company that imports all its yarns from Türkiye because the owner is originally from that country.
The red heart yarn will soften up after washing.
That cotton yarn is a short strand cotton yarn made for home accessories.
Long strand cotton yarn is made for garments I.e., mercerized and Pima and Giza types.
Lion Brand has a selection and their Pima is very soft and is worsted weight.
Premier also has garment cotton yarns along with many companies too.

If you do a magic circle with the Parfait chunky, leave a long tail to pull it closed and do the initial stitches VERY loose. It can be hard to pull closed and it breaks pretty easily. I think it's a bargain basement type of yarn for Americans but costs us loads due to import. Hi Yasmin 👋 Oh no, that's not a great experience for you! Can I ask, did it soften up at all after washing? I've been told washing the supersaver can help it to soften up a lot. You will enjoy the cake winder, I put the ball I am winding in a small box so it rolls around while I wind. If you are winding a hank you can drape it over a chair or have someone hold it open, no swift necessary just go slower in winding. All the best to you!

Yes, its very expensive for us Aussies to get our hands on american yarn, although it is easier than it used to be, it's still no cheaper - and definitely not as cheap as you have it over there! It also makes it much harder to learn which yarns are the best ones to invest in, because we can't really buy a skein or 2 just to try it out and see if we like it or not, so we rely on our american friends to recommend yarns to us 🤗

Sugar & cream is known as kitchen cotton, I wouldn't use it for wearables. (in Canada about $3.00 each) Super saver, I think is one of the rougher yarns and one of the yarns that are classified as the cheaper yarns. Almost indestructible, I've seen afghans that are made of this yarn and are extremely old. It's gotten softer compared to super saver of 30+ years ago. LOL (about $7.00- I haven't bought this in a long time) The prices are extremely pricey and personally don't think it's worth it. I like the look of some of the yarns that you have in Australia. Have fun with the yarn winder. You don't need the swift if you're not winding yarn from the hanks. If winding from skeins, you don't need a swift. I wind my yarns and use a wool genie (bought from Amazon) and outer pull, It's been a game changer. LOL

Thank you so much! 🙏💗 Yes, a few people have said that I don't need a swift unless I'm winding hanks, so I'm glad I don't have to add another thing to the list!

Woah $45 is a lot but the colour is beautiful! I have only just found your channel recently but absolutely love your thrifting and yarn hauls. I am heading through Ballarat at the end of the year, is there any op shops that you recommend?

Hi Kara 👋 Thanks for your lovely comment 🙏💜 I'm so glad you enjoy watching my videos! I would recommend the Salvos store in Sebastopol as it's so big! And also the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Delacombe is a great store too - a little smaller than the one in Sebastopol, but much cheaper prices! 🤗
Good luck with your treasure hunting! Hope you find some gems out there! 😃

Be aware the Sugar and Creme in the darker colors sometimes the color will run the first few times you wash it.

Wow. . . I’m American and I’m blown away by the prices you’re paying for Red Heart & Sugar and Cream yarns. I don’t understand-is it because of the conversion rates or just the cost to ship there? I pay about $5 each for either brand. I will tell you that personally I dislike Sugar & Cream. If you can find a cotton yarn called “Dishie” by Knit Picks, snap they up! I want to send you more American yarn! ((Hugs)) to you.

It makes me so sad what we have to pay for us yarn in Australia 😢

Hi Krystal 👋 Thanks so much for your comment! 🙏 💜
Yes, I believe it's that expensive due to both the conversion rates and also the shipping as well. It's also hard to know which yarns to invest in because we can't really buy a skein or to to try it out, so you either end up paying way too much for something you're not happy with, or finally finding something you like but not being able to afford to buy much of it.
That being said, we do have some really wonderful yarn producers over here in Australia, and there are some amazing high quality pure wool producers here too 🤗
It would just be nice if we all had the opportunity to access the same yarns at a reasonable price.
Thanks for the tip about Knit Picks - I'l keep my eye out for it next time I put in an order! Are you able to recommend any other good quality american yarns that are worth investing in? Do you have any favourite brands you like to work with?

I thought the same thing but I think with the conversion rate the red heart is about the same as we pay in America. I found a two pack for about $32 American which I think is around $45 Australian.

@@MelsYarniverse I completely understand not wanting to invest in a skein of yarn just to try it out. I have been bitten by that more times than I I can count! I live in a rural area, and so I order a lot of yarn online. Luckily, with your UA-cam channel, you now have friends from all over who can give you recommendations! ❤️❤️I am also excited to learn about Australian yarns.
I can also recommend three yarns from Lion Brand: Mandala, Wool Ease, and Comfy Cotton Blend. Thank you for replying to me.

In my opinion Premier cotton yarn is much better than the Sugar and Cream and the other similar yarn. The color doesn't run! Not a garment yarn as I'm sure you know.
