I’ve had my Tulip set for over 3 years. I crochet between 12 and 18 hours a day and the printed label looks exactly the same as the day I purchased them. I also own the Clover set which I like but my go to set is Tulip. I am a pencil grip cricketer if that helps
I have both sets the Tulip Etimos and the Clovers. I reach for my Clovers first, they're my favorites. I gifted the Etimos to my great niece who started crocheting recently. She loves them, and as a beginner she found them so much easier to use than your standard metal hooks (torture devices, I call them, lol)
Me, again… I just received my set of Grey Tulips.. The case is great… The Tulipsvare definitely lighter..and they slip, very easily through the yarn… I got them from Amazon, and paid only $50___down from $98. A real bargain.. I have been using the Tulips all morning, and I think I am going to love them. I’m definitely glad I bought them. They are a great addition to my hook collection, and compliment my beloved clovers. Neither has a drag…and both feel very comfortable in my hands.
I've watched several video reviews and read blogs on the Tulips. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm doing thorough research before investing. $$ lol I own Clovers now, but I also want a set of Tulips for the aesthetic, the uniform look of them. :) Everyone new to Tulip mentions the sticker being a drawback, but I've read many comments and seen update reviews. They all say the stickers haven't budged after years of use. And the hooks still look good. That's great to know. I bought one Tulip to sample. I love it. I felt no slight "drag" when compared to my Clovers. (Knife gripper.) Just adding my comments for other shoppers who are researching. :)
I love Tulip. Fits my hand perfectly. And I’m a knife holder. I like the thumb rest. Also I like the label on Tulip telling in good print the hook size. I can’t see the hook size on Clover. Nor am I going to remember the colours for the hook size. plus Clover doesn’t provide a case. I do have Clover. Tulip provides a nice case, scissors, yarn needles and other bits. I do think it also depends how comfortable you are using your favourite hooks. I’m very used to Tulip. And not so much with Clover. And the printed hook size on the Tulips, does not fade or rub off. Had mine for a few years now. It’s good we have so much choice in crochet hooks.cheap hooks are rubbish though. Get the best hooks that you can reasonably afford.
my Clover 4.5mm....I was using that Sugar and Cream cotton and one day the shaft came loose from the handle. It didn't come out, and still hasn't. I emailed Clover and they said they would replace it for free, I just haven't sent it because I'm lazy. Clover is still my favorite. I'm currently doing a blanket with a tulip, however!
Oh thank God I found this video I recently got a etimo red and I thought I was going crazy because I have only ever used Clover and etimo felt like sandpaper lol 😅
Stessa esperienza!! Ho fatto tanto per provare i red di Tulip ma credo di tornare ai miei storici Clover, i red e anche i rose fanno troppo attrito col filo, non mi piace
I will also add, the Tulip hooks are lighter...but barely, and i'm a pencil gripper. Sometimes when I get going, the hook will fly out of my hand. This doesn't happen with Clover! Strange...
Thank you for the review! I recently got the Clover hooks after using Boye hooks forever! I absolutely adore the Clover. I like the way the yarn glides over the hook. I still might buy a Tulip to see how I like it tho. Can’t ever have too many hooks! ❤️🧶
I, too, have the set of the Clover Amour. I did buy one Etimo Tulip in 6.0 mm. I also love it. Oh Melanie, I have so many hooks... I need to get rid of some. LOL... ;-) Thank you for making this video. It just confirmed my love for my Clover Amour and my one and only Etimo Tulip...
I bought 2 different sizes of Clover hooks about 6 months ago just to try them out. I did like them. However, I just received a set of Tulip hooks for Christmas and I love them! They are my favorite! (Someday I hope to try Furls, which so many crocheters seem to like best.)
I am so glad the Tulips are working well for you, they really are a great hook. And I will be honest, I am just OK with Furls - they are beautiful hooks, but for the price I am just as happy with a Divit Shilp or Ommi hook, you know? I will be getting those comparison videos out at some point!
I LLOOOVVVVEEE my Clover Amour ❤ I’m going to pick up a 5mm tulip just to compare to the 5mm clover I’m using now on a project. I’ll come back and comment what I liked better ❤ I’m a knife grip crocheter. The clovers roll so nicely between my fingertips for quick efficient crochet 💜 Also depends on the type of yarn. Clovers and tulip I think both would work great with all yarn But I noticed - I have a resin hook from another company and it’s horrible for natural cotton and wool. It’s sticks to the yarn terribly. - at least that was my experience So now I just use metal hooks ❤
I received my 5mm tulip etiome red crochet hook. I like it. But my clover is more smooth- at least with this type of yarn I’m using- I notice a slight difference in friction. The yarn is Caron Jumbo- multicolored green. It’s not a quality yarn and it splits but not so much with my clover or tulip. I can use both interchangeably and be happy. The handle is very comfortable.
Great video ❤ The clover amour is a hybrid hook, not tapered. I only know because i can't keep my yarn on a tapered hook, but i can use inline and hybrid hooks ❤️
I would definitely buy one of each and try them myself before investing because of someone else's opinion. Everyone's anatomy and physiology is different. The clover caused me severe thumb joint pain over extended use. The Tulip does not.
I love my Clivers...and the fact that each size has its own color. I am visually impaired, so thst us a bug help. I also love my three Furls Ods. Each size has bern color coded.. I plan to buy one pink Tulip, just yo check it out.
I came to crochet late in life and tried many different brands but always disliked the draggy sensation of the hook against the yarn. Then I came to both Clover and Tulip and I love them equally. They both glide through the yarn without a trace of friction. Now I won’t bother with any other brand.
Thanks for the review!! Honestly, I don't know which one to choose, as they lean on the expensive side where I live... $14 for a Clover Armour hook and $17 for a Tulip one! Maybe I should buy one of each and see where it goes!! I'm a pencil gripper btw!
Thanks for the great review!! I’m putting together a starter box Of yarn and hooks for my great niece she’s just now showing interest in crocheting so I’m very excited. She lives a couple hundred miles away so we’re going to be learning via zoom. It’s for all you do I hope you have a fabulous day!! 😊💚😊💚
my favorite hooks are the prym, susan bates & the tulip! I think the tulip has more of an inbetween tip where its a little pointed but not crazy like susan bates. But also not super roound. I was worred about the tulip sticker too but I know someone who has had theirs for years & it's never worn down, but if you have sweatier hands who knows! I love those three for me
That is *really* good to know about the sticker - that is the one thing I can't test only having them for a few months. I do have a prym hook to try, along with a couple of Divit hooks - keep an eye out for those reviews coming soon! 😃
I have tulip etimo for quite a while now (about 3 yrs). I have heavily used 3 through 4.5mm and if you are worried that the size marks would rub off, fret not. Unless you run a sandpaper on it, it will stay there even with heavy use. I had clover amour before and whilw it was comfortable to use i like how etimo fit my hand better.
That is awesome feedback, thank you! It is good to know the sticker info won't rub off with consistent use. I do wish one or the other would make a line with longer handles - furls is the only one I have found that is longer and it is an inline hook - not my fave, but useable. Anyway - I digress! Thank you so much for letting us know this, it is valuable information.
I have Bith sets, and love them both. I have vision issues, so having each size a different color is a big advantage. My hands are very small, so the actual length of both hooks are perfect.
I have Susan Bates, Boyes, a couple Furl Odyssey but since I purchased my Etimo Tulip set that’s all I use. I haven’t touched my other hooks since. I’m a knife holder.
I have both and I feel everytime I work with tulip hook my works are slightly bigger than when I work with clover even though I use the same size, I'm not sure with my tension tho.
It is definitely the hooks - there can sometimes be a significant difference in the same size hook, even with the same brand hook! That is why it is best to always start and finish a project with the same exact hook :-)
I am a pencil grip and I'd take the clover any day. That little nub you're talking about does absolutely nothing! I have one tulip that I bought because it's the only way I could get a size 7, but I keep my hooks in a box and the different colors really help finding the correct hook! Also, the imprinted sizes are unlikely to wear off, like the Boye ergonomic set that I bought a long time ago did.
Oh my!!! You've been reading my mind!! I've been wanting to know about the tulip. Thanks so much!! Edit: a bunch of my clovers kinda click too, I noticed that it seems the handle is slipping a little off the hook piece. These are my first hooks. So does this mean they are blown out? Its happening with my other sizes too??
I think it is the adhesive agent on the ergonomic handle is loosening. I have only been feeling it on my 5.5mm, and only one of them, which is my most used (outside of the 8mm). Will this be a consistent flaw with them, I can't say - and I wonder if we reached out to Clover - how would they react? I can't say if this will happen with the Tulip - as I have had my Clovers for longer. I am sure I will have another update for this in a year or so LOL.
@@HookedtotheLeft i have it with at least 5 of my hooks. Im not sure what to think. Wonder of some crazy glue will fix it. Think I will wait till they slip all the way out. Do you mean the Ergonomic Boye? YES - they are very nice - I wold highly recommend getting the clover hooks on the ones ... 8mm and higher (I think - it might be 7mm and higher) only IF you don't like heavier hooks. Clover changes how the hooks are made at the higher mm and they are much lighter.
