Kellie dahling, i think you just changed my life! I FREAKING LOVE THIS!! I HAVE NEVER BINDED BEFORE, BUT YOU CAN BEST BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BE DOING IT NOW!!! WOW!! LOVE THIS! IT'S ADDED TO MY FAVORITE LIST!
Thank you for this great tutorial! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more clear, detailed way of how to attach the binding and I really appreciate that! I can’t wait to try this!
Your video can’t come at a better time! I am sewing a crossbody bag and the binding was left to do. I JUST put it aside to take a break and comeback later. I love your method! I never thought of using DST. Wish me luck! Thank you for another amazing tutorial. 😊
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! Thank you for your amazing video. Your amazing teaching style helped so much. Also the close up of the camera position and step by step of your technique made this so easy to follow. I'm so inspired to give this a try.
What great instructions!! No one has ever mentioned making sure all the sides are even - I just figured that out recently. Interesting that you use inside of the tape for your guideline and not the outside of the bag. Never thought to do that and it's probably why my binding doesn't always cover the stitching!! Thanks for a great lesson!!!
Thank you so much for this video! I am in the process of making a bag that needs binding and came across your video and you explained it so simple for me to understand. I have no doubt I’m going to be able to accomplish it. Thank you again. I have liked and subscribed. Glad I found your channel.
Just let me tell you!! I would avoid binding like the plague for I was not a fan . Mostly all slings use binding due to the nature of their design. I used Kellie's method and it WORKS!!!! Take your time, and will come out. I use WPC for the binding so it matches the lining (cheaper) and matching thread like she said to do!!
This is just what I needed today. Just finished the Louie waist pack and the worst part is the binding. I couldn't use your technique on this one but I sure will in the future. Just Jai 💓
@mattjudge9680 I do find that it can fray, so I've started to *very carefully* go down each long side of mine with a lighter. That works great to seal the edges, then I do not find them fraying a couple months down the road 😁
That’s a good secret! Lol I am currently doing the SueSue bag and I don’t want to mess up!! It’s come together so well. I’m Guna give your secret a try and we will see if I can get to look like yours. Eek!
I had to come back, and I finished my sue sue sling. My result wasn’t super smooth and neat like yours in the video. But it was easy! It all worked out, and I’m ready to try another binding bag! Thank you again. I like your method the very best!
What a great method! Color me impressed and truly grateful for your talents and generosity to share! Question: Do you only use ottertex for the binding or can other materials be used? I have a bag I need to bind but lining is cotton material. Thank you again!
Thank you! Foldover elastic works great for binding. You can also make your own or buy cotton bias binding. Just make sure it's double-fold so you don't have any raw edges. You can even use double-sided tape with it.😊
I’m wondering about how your needle isn’t getting gummed up from 2 layers of DST? And, can you share how your topstitches look so good? Same thread and machine? 😊
I use DST from Wawak and I find it is not a gummy as some others I've tried. I do have to clean my needle with alcohol wipes after a few times of sewing through it. As for topstitching I sew with my Juki 1181n and I mostly use Amann Tex70 thread and a size 18 or 19 needle. Using the same color thread on binding hides a multitude of evil.😂😂

Thanks Kellie! I've been using glue, but your method seems so much faster! I'm going to try it next time. Thank you!
Thank you! No more waiting on glue to dry!😁

Thank you Sis! I'm so proud of you for overcoming your fear of binding. ❤️🥰
You’re a great teacher. Thanks for sharing your technique!!! Does the Wawa DST stick or gum up your needle?
Thank you! My needle gets a little gummy after a few times of sewing through it. I keep alcohol wipes on hand to wipe my needle down.
Thank you!
You're so welcome!
I am going to have to use this technique. Thank you for the tutorial!!
Glad it was helpful!

Sorry you missed it for this one, but I'm happy to hear you'll be giving it a try for the next one. Thanks for watching!❤️
Great tutorial, thank you! One question, how do you keep the raw edge of the binding tape from fraying?
Thank you! Waterproof canvas does not fray.
@mattjudge9680 I do find that it can fray, so I've started to *very carefully* go down each long side of mine with a lighter. That works great to seal the edges, then I do not find them fraying a couple months down the road 😁
PERFECTO!!!!!!!!
Thanks Sis!❤️
It looks good.
Thanks!

What a great tutorial! Does the double stick tape affect your needle?
@sharonmaue6812 thank you! It gets a little gummy after a while. I keep alcohol wipes close by.😊

well I'm having a "slap in the head, duh" moment-- this is brilliant!!!
LOL! Sometimes it's the simplest solution. Right?!😂
Really helpful video. What is the width of you binding?
Thank you! My binding is 1".
Thank you for this!! Curious what pattern this is too??
You're welcome! It's the Aimani Backpack by Cherelle Le'ron. 🥰
How thick did you cut the binding? I think you said it at the beginning but I missed it.
I cut it at 1". If I'm using thicker fabrics, I may cut at 1-1/4" to accommodate the thicker seams.
Hi! Once, you add the binding, are you sewing about 3/8" seam allowance or are you sewing at a smaller seam allowance? Thanks.
I try to sew as close to the raw edge of the binding as I can. It's a little more than 1/4" but not quite 3/8".
Wouldn’t this be easier with a cylinder bed sewing machine?
Could be, but you don't need a cylinder arm machine for this. 😊
Do you not have issues sewing through the DST?
I don't have any issues with Wawak DST.
What type of foot is on your Juki?
It's the regular walking foot that comes with it.
