  • Mike is Moving On Up... Got his Class A CDL permit, so now it's time to train him on the larger towing units. Mike is already good at towing and recovery and has an excellent gift for this, so moving on up shouldn't be difficult for him. Today we start with a simple school bus tow using our 2015 Peterbilt 337 with a Miller Industries Century 4024, 20 ton towing & recovery unit #10. Watch to see how he does. Please SLOW DOWN & MOVE OVER!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

    Grinding gears as you are learning a transmission is a right a of passage. when you have a trainer like you Ron it takes all of the added stress and lessens it because you let them do it and only correct when you have to. Job well done
    Mike.

      You're obviously not a "super trucker" born with diesel in the veins and a shifter in the right hand! Well, I'm not either. I grew up around big trucks and I've been an owner operator for over 20 years. I still scrape a gear in my 13 speed now and then. When my trainees do it, I joke with them saying that it's ok since they're going to start making gears from rubber next year. Oh, I also can't hit every dock ever built in one shot yet lol!

    Mike demonstrated what happens when a good student has a good teacher. Well done to you both. And Mike, keep it up. Overcoming that millenial anti-theft device (manual trans) gets easier when you are on your own.

      Work a manual transmission enough and you get "muscle memory" and don't even have to think about it. Just needs some more time under his belt.

    • @jaratt85
      @jaratt85 3 роки тому +6

      nah that'd be a 3 on the tree.. A LOT of Japanese cars are manual transmissions and so are a lot of the European tuner cars like the 2.0T Audi/VW and Mini S/BMW etc. They know how to drive a stick but on the column throws them for a loop.. best anti-theft device now is an old school starter button.. they'd break the key before figuring out how that works.

I was taught how to drive with and without the clutch back when I was in the Royal Australian Navy as a firefighter in the '80s and we had a 3 month driving course they taught us lots of tricks and great life lessons, at the end of the day practice makes the difference.

      Well, he already knows how to rig it, from being Ron's swamper. He knows how to drive it now, si he only needs to learn how to operate it... Shouldn't think it'll be too long til then. It'll be funny watching Mike roll up in the 'tator. Up to now, it's been Ron's pride and joy, and almost his personal truck. Think I've only seen one video of someone other than Ron drive it.

    Teaching him what to do is almost as important as teaching why it needs done that way. He's lucky to have such a good and thorough teacher! :D

    It was quite warm all the way into Canada. The ground is already abnormally dry. It's a rather bad sign as far as forest fires go. It's going to be one busy season.

    Nice job, Mike!! Glad to see you get your permit to run the big boys, and get your training from a master. Ron, you must be proud of Mike, for getting his permit, and showing you what he has learned since he started working for you. He's learning well, and pretty well has the hang of things, and only needed a bit of guidance. Well done!! God bless, and have a wonderful weekend!!!
