@@lmt-adventures I’ve noticed a few Johnsons/Evinrudes around this year doing that too. The shift linkage in the lower unit typically needs fine adjustment
@sacratboatingandfishing The manual calls for screwing the shift rod down all the way and unscrewing it just enough to align the top bend connector with the upper shift rod sticking down the middle section (i.e. less than a full turn). It is normal for an airborne prop to somewhat turn in neutral as the prop shaft's gears slightly rub against the shiftdog clutch. Regards !
Did you cut the middle seat out and support the sides? Im wanting to do the same with my 14 to have a walk through, but don't want to weaken it I also have a 14 johnson Great motors Great vid Thanks
No, that’s how I bought it. I think the previous owner maybe added the foam from the middle to the back seat or just tossed out the foam. I didn’t notice any stabilization issues. Thanks man!
How many positions are there on the gear selector? I just got a 1994 and havent fired it yet. But it only has a forward and back position. I can’t seem to tell if pushing it backwards is putting it into neutral or reverse
It has 3. Try spinning the prop it should spin freely in neutral. Once the motor is running shift into all 3 positions sometimes the gears don’t fully move while the motor isn’t running. If it doesn’t shift into all 3 positions while the motor is running then the shift linkage is out of adjustment. There’s some good UA-cam vids out there how to measure and set the correct linkage height that’s how I set my linkage
@@sacratboatingandfishing Finally got the new motor out on water today. It does have all 3 gear positions! Appreciate your info. It helped keep me off the ledge before I could get the motor into water. Thank you much!
I have the same motor what does it mean if it won’t go into reverse it goes forward just fine but it when you put it in reverse prop won’t spin any clue ?
@@myronwashington2460 Your linkage height is set incorrectly. The screw that connects the bracket piece in the lower unit needs to be adjusted to shift all 3 gears
Do you do side work off UA-cam bro ? I have an engine I bought guy had it running when I was there I got home and it now doesn’t fire up when it does only for a 1 minute or two and it dies
@sacratboatingandfishing The model ID shown on the sticker placed on the transom support's side will give you the answer. Yours is J15R???, to wit: Johnson, 15 hp, Recoil start and the letters that stand at my first 2 question marks indicate the year model. Put in parallel the word INTRODUCES and 1234567890. If it's a '93, those will be ET. The last letter refers to a specific production run configuration. Regards !
Thanks for whipping out your Johnson on UA-cam.

Always enjoy your videos!
Great video. Rear latch idea is fantastic!
Thanks 👍
Awesome video man
Good
Great video, looking forward to future videos!
Thanks man!
BTW.. the kill switch wiring doesn't matter.. the switch is open with the tether in and closed with the tether off ( short to ground)
Indeed !
Nice work! How come prop was rolling hard when shifter looks to be in neutral when you first started it ?

Looks more like a short shaft just wondering
Sure is a standard 15 inch shaft outboard. 😊
What year is this Johnson 15hp?
