Boy o boy, that is a beauty! Low hour fresh water engine. Take extra special care of it and it will last a lifetime. Please ignore the 100:1 mixing instructions found in the manual, this was just a sales gimmic. Mix the fuel/oil at 50:1. This engine is worth a great deal, enjoy it!!
I own several of the OMC 15hp ranging from 1956 to 1986 . That one is in really nice shape ! Plus the electric start isn’t common to find . What did you give for it if I may ask ? Your in Wisconsin ? I’m in Minnesota . I run mine a little richer then most people, it’s easies to pay for oil then a new motor ! Lol
I have a 15 Evinrude a couple years newer than this one and that 15 Honda would be hard pressed to keep up with it. I have driven a 25 merc 4 stroke tiller several times and it’s quite but is slow as molasses as well.
Ken Tyler 4 strokes are nowhere near as fast as a 2 stroke. I ran down a guy in a 12’ aluminum boat with a brand new 20hp tohatsu 4 stroke. With two people in my 14’ klamath and a 1986 2 stroke 15hp evinrude.
Very nice motor,i have the same one but evinrude could you write to me what type of spark plugs do you use?I don't have the owners manial thank you from greece
Real clean for an 85, I have an 80 that needs a water pump rebuild, traded a newer Johnson, would a 15 be too much for a 19 foot Grumman square stern canoe?
I have a 15’ Grumman square stern. Rated for 4hp, I have run an Evinrude fisherman 6 without any problems. The 15hp are strong motors but a 19’ in certainty bigger and heavier than my canoe. I would try it and see how your canoe handles it. For sure you want a passenger up front. I would be concerned about hitting a log or something pretty solid at speed. Not sure of the ability of your transom it stand the impact.
That's pretty light. My 8 h.p long shaft Tohatsu 2 stroke is 68 lbs. I just bought an 1986 15 Johnson 2 stroke long shaft that runs good and is in great shape for $250. They are selling cheap now that they don't make them anymore.
@@robormiston2841 cheap now? depends where you are. $250 is a deal, you did good! These older OMC 9.98/15hp two-strokes are very much still in demand as they provide the the best power to weight ratio compared to the 4 strokes.
Wow, nice find. Insanely clean.
InstaBlaster.
The knob on the front panel adjusts the idling speed. The knob on the side adjusts the trolling speed and directly acts on the throttle.
The knob in front adjusts the idle fuel mix.
@@beemrmem3 fuel/air mix? I just bought an 85 like this one but without electric start. Is the knob on the side the trolling feature?
Front knob ---Lean / Rich
Thanks heaps for that that’s the reason I came to this video and I didn’t even have to watch any of it
Very nice and clean motor. Sounds good too. Enjoy!

What plugs do you use in your 1985 Seahorse ?

I know this is old but the noise is coming from the starter. It’s turning while the engine is running.

I know it’s an old video but I’d sure like to buy that Johnson.
Old video but I've got a nice running 1975 Johnson 9.9 available in Michigan
hi there can youtell me is the drive pin a shear pin? in the UK we call it a shear pin or cotapin. just asking thanks for your video
it has a splined shaft prop, no shear pin
What year Is this motor
Is this a 2 stroke?
Yes
That is not a low speed troll adjustment it is the low speed adjustment for tuning the motor. The knob on the side is your idle adjustment

Old post but ...no. I have an 85 johnson 15 on a 15' gheenoe

That "motor" looks brand new. How much does an outboard engine like that go for?
Dont know how much in usa in eu Danmark 500€
Is that 15" shaft or 20"?
Хороший мотор. Хочу у Вас его купить.
My motor looked like this then my dad painted it black I Was pissed
How much does it weigh ? (about) its quiet until you compare it to a Honda.
But it its a johnson. 35 years old and will run forever. Paddling back to dock is quiet too. I'd rather run my johnson.
74 lbs

Pushes a 1967 Travelers 12' aluminum 19mph+
four stroke?????
you don't belong here if you are asking that Q...
It’s clearly a 2stroke mate look how small it is
It's a 2 stroke. Don't worry about what other people say. If you didn't know, there's nothing wrong with asking.
It sounds that`s nything is loose inside?? Not to compare wiht a Yamaha....No wonder they get bankrupt..
just the way they sound. and no, the EPA and poor management did them in, not their regular 2 strokes they were awesome.
1985 lol
