  • High mileage drivers are feeling left out with todays modern cars. With prices climbing at the pumps, does it still make sense to buy a Diesel? Mazda seem to think so!

    I love diesels. Had a petrol hybrid as a company car and got 35mpg. Now I bought my own diesel I never get less than 50mpg and 700 out of a tank. Cleanest cars are modern diesels. I am very happy with my CO2 footprint and pleased that I am making the planet greener.

    Really good to see a manufacturer pushing traditional ICE car development even further - there's a lot of potential in combustion cars still, after all, there's nothing wrong with the engines, it's just the fuel that's the problem. With the wheels starting to fall off Net Zero, ICE could be around a lot longer yet.

    • @Mr11ESSE111

      fuel are not problem ,its stupid hype and propaganda how to milk additional money from peoples with stupid electric cars

    • @NickLiang

      How about all oil an ICE uses ffs and also the amount of maintenance that's required? unless you also find a engine lubricant substitute and find a environmental friendly way to dispose of it, ICE is destined to die. Whatever the future, it will involve electricity, it's so much more versatile and its actually sustainable.

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang Рік тому +1

      @M Don't try to use an irrelevant point to pull attention away from the real point. What the hell has China got to do with anything, this is about the wider automotive industry. The fact is, ICE is not versatile and current requires significant oil consumption, there is nothing sustainable about it.

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang Рік тому +1

      @M I can equally argue how about all the unreported ICE fires?

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang Рік тому +1

      @M Charging is literally improving every year as is battery tech, the rate of progression is almost 20% each year, including materials used. ICE has stagnated and manufacturers are even CHEATING the system because they can no longer progress the technology. CHEATING.
      Yes compared to electric motors. ICE is much more reliable, requires much more maintenance, environmentally unfriendly and major cause of air pollution. Tell me again, how can engines adapt to growing needs? settle down.
      The future IS electricity, tell me again, however many developed economies is banning sale of new ICEs within the next 20 years? exactly.

    I have owned two Mazda CX 5 diesels, the first one was 6 months old, traded when it reached 3 years old for a new diesel CX 5 and I have to say I have no issues with either car and both returning 50 plus mpg with a mixture of urban and longer journeys. But I have to say I have my 3rd CX 5 diesel on order due this month, but I am seriously thinking changing to a CX 60 diesel, having test driven one a couple of weeks ago. All in all, over the six years with Mazda they have been first class to deal with from servicing to sales.

    50mpg from such a big and powerful car is amazing. My first new car, a Ford Fiesta 1300S, barely managed 30mpg from less than half the mass, no power or auto anything and only 66ps/hp. I thought my current car, an equivalent Kia Sorento, was brilliant, matching my Honda CR-V 1.6 diesel auto with an average of just over 38mpg long term with 42 on longer journeys, but this Mazda is in another league again.

    Thank you for highlighting the motorists dilemma for long distance. This vehicle certainly fills a gap till 2030 & only Mazda economists will know if the calculations with this model will make a profit for the Company; with current Diesel perceptions. This vehicle will do well in Countries where high mileage is normal (USA, Canada, Australia), though I doubt it will do as well in UK & European markets. The subject of distance, weight carriage & other types of vehicles, from camper vans, motorhomes, vans, lorries, farming & construction vehicles are ignored by the woke, yet first to complain on pricing and limited access to goods! Strange world, strange times & thankfully consumers are still being allowed & given a choice by manufacturers such as Mazda. A clever video, doing a car review while gently highlighting some consumers dilemma & options currently available. You deserve a far greater following than 31.6k+. I agree with your heading - diesel is still the only option for some! Your technical content on the engine is impressive 👍 I do hope Mazda don't have issues with this engine (their history with diesel is patchy unfortunately). I would be inclined to wait a few years before considering buying one of these to see if there are any issues first. But I take my hat off to Mazda for building a new diesel engine. Another great overview of a great car Tish. I had a few diesel cars over the years and never had any issues with them, for longer journeys they were perfect. This could well be one of the swansong diesel options given the blanket plan to outlaw them in the future though. For shorter journeys consideration needs to be given for when the DPF needs to regenerate to save possible expensive work. As long as you notice the higher idle RPM and just drive it in the lower gears for a while until idle stabilises at normal speeds this should not be an issue. My diesel experience is a tad dated though so maybe the DPF regen is less of a problem on modern cars. Many thanks for sharing.

  • @barnoslogik

    i like the idea of this, i used to commute 2 x 27 miles a day each way with work, now i do 2 x 120 miles commutes and cycle to work 2.5 miles a day, during my 4/5 day shifts.
    so i have a 1.6 diesel ibiza because of those shorter journeys, had it remapped from 105 bhp to approx 130bhp, which was perfect for the back roads and dual carriageway, but now i'm doing motorway commuting, a little more power would be great and if can still get 50+ MPG and store my bike in the back without taking both wheels off (which i do with my ibiza) and or putting a bike rack this makes an SUV like this a good option.
    this with a PHEV option would also be good, i could then drive on diesel for the motorway part with good economy, then the days when i want to drive instead of cycle the 2.5 miles ( yes i'm a fair weather rider) i could drive to work on electric.

    Yes they should, diesel is not dead, keep producing.
    I just test drove the CX60 Diesel for about an hour, I loved it , great interior , infotainment system is easy to use. Doors closing could sound better and more premium. The rear split seats bugged me. As the centre seat does not lock into both outside seats meaning the seat connected to the outside seat wobbles like a tooth. Not good. Should of locked all the seats together to make it more solid . And the gear box. At gear 1 was clunky, sort jumper into gear. Which I thought will cause huge problems in the future. Apparently there was a recall.on the hybrid version due to a clunky gear box. It's digital so simple programming should sort this. I'm still considering to buy one as I do like the road presence and the drive of the diesel. The engine is absolutely amazing. Gorgeous sound, and very smooth.
    I would only buy the diesel

    Respect Mazda for not following the current. Diesel seems to be irrelevant not just EV trend, but most manufacturers were haunted by the penalties and lawsuits from using defeat device on their diesel engines. Euro 7 seems to be the biggest nightmare for most diesel engines (strict NOx emission regulation), while Mazda is confident enough that its straight-six diesel engine can pass the forthcoming Euro 7 regulation, which is a win-win for long commuters who want bigger SUVs. If 2% of customers agree with Mazda's philosophy, Mazda will be satisfied.
    Also according to German studies (if I remembered correctly), Mazda has the safest infotaiment system compared to Mecedes' and Tesla's (not saying Mercedes and Tesla are bad, it's just depends on your preference).

    The diesel is great, but very loud. I test-drove the diesel version of this car yesterday. The power, interior design, and exterior appearance are impressive. It felt great driving on flat roads. However, the road noise was quite loud when driving over coarse chip at speed. It's not a quiet highway cruiser; instead, it's loud and boomy. The suspension feels cheap and doesn't effectively absorb bumps or road imperfections. Additionally, there was a small rattle in the dashboard. Overall, I would not recommend this car yet, but I'd like to one day, after Mazda do the engineering properly, and address the asking price. Its unresolved.

    Diesel still has utility for driving long distances and where fuel stations can be a long way apart like in parts of Australia. Diesel here is also more expensive than petrol and if you don’t drive the car much particulate filters cause problems. I found great diesel engines owning a BMW 330d and X5 4D M sport. These were economical motors with punchy torque and acceleration. Mazda CX60 sweet spot will likely be their in line 6 petrol as it has very good economy, great torque and for whatever reason has greater towing capacity. If the CX60 towing capacity was as good as the inline 6 petrol it might be a different story as it would be nice to have the slightly greater torque for towing a caravan we have in order. CX60 has some benefits over rivals like Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 or VW Passat Alltrack who have lower tow ball weights under 100 kg for us in Australia where caravan manufacturers tend not to make many caravans with down ball weights that low. That was an enjoyable video to watch and listen to thanks. I would love to see a review of the in-line 6 petrol.

    Conclusion I will run it for 2 years instead of 42 months and try to change for the inline 6 diesel for a 3 to 4 year life and hope diesel cost and Low emission zones don’t change my strategy.
    Pure electric will never suit me with ranges I need plus infrastructure Con.

    👇
    From 2026 would these car brands be the only in Europe with diesel options if only passenger vehicles are included: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, VW, Skoda, Seat, Ford and SsangYong. All other car manufacturers will remove all diesel options in passenger vehicles until this year. As always a very thorough and thought-provoking review. Thank you! I agree Mazda have innovative engineers, and their interiors are a step above their non-luxury brand competitors. But their innovations might be misdirected in a world where diesel (or petrol) combustion is increasingly being understood as a real climate problem even among right wing "climate nay sayers" over here in the USA. I think they'd be better off developing hybrids which are useful for long range travel while dramatically reducing fuel combustion, and of course EVs. The Hyundai/Kia/Genesis company which is not as well known over here as Mazda has leapfrogged Mazda with excellent well-priced electrified offerings. Mazda is tied to some extent to Toyota from what I read, and could really use the infusion of Toyota hybrid tech with some of its own engineering innovations to produce fine hybrids to begin with. Diesels are an evolutionary dead end, IMO.

      Sort of, because most manufacturers’ diesel cars have been slaughtered badly and still haunted by the lawsuits and penalties due to installed defeat device. This 6 cylinder diesel engine however can pass Euro 7 regulation. Larger SUV diesel still preferred though.

      No they will be on the road for 20 years yet. By then people will realise they were duped over the concept that climate change is bad for us.

    Mazda SUVS has been getting worst over the years and this one is not better. There's nothing attractive about this SUV, not interior nor exterior, its a boring SUV.The best part of this review is the presenter and thats the only reason I watched till the end. 👎😐💩👎😐💩👎😐💩.
