Southgate worked miracles with England , the basic reason England will never win a tournament is they don’t have a creative midfield who can dictate the temp of the game .You can have all the best attacking midfielders like Bellingham, Foden but there is nobody who is comfortable receiving the ball , holding it and passing it .

"Lineker and Shearer who were quite personal in their criticism of him" - Give me a break. They absolutely werent personal. In fact they went out of their way to not be personal. The praised him loads of times as a great guy. They reiterated time and time again that it wasnt personal. And that they felt bad being critical. They made FAIR criticisms over Englands performances(not results). To label those as personal is an absolute lie by Sky/Dorsett. And if Gareth thinks they were personal then he is simply wrong.
You cant rightly complain about Gareth getting unfair abuse(which he has gotten) while at the same time unfairly smearing Lineker and Shearer - And setting them up for unfair abuse.

@5:37 --- more gas lighting here. Of course it was terrible to lose to Iceland in the last 16. But by the journo's own reckoning, at that point "England were in the mire." Well guess what happened in this tournament with Southgate in charge and a MUCH BETTER England team??? Slovakia played us off the park in at the same point in the tournament as Iceland did - the last 16. And if it weren't for a Bellingham overhead kick deep into injury time, we would have been knocked out by Slovakia. With this team we have now that would have been a far worse result than the Iceland one! So don't use this tournament as a marker to suggest how far we've come. Every single time we have been underdogs under Gareth we have lost. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Southgate had the EPL, La Liga and Bundesliga POTY in the his attack, but sent his team out to play like Stoke. He was a fraud who made England much less than the sum of its parts. The defining image of Southgate's regime should be the final few minutes of the first half against Slovenia, when the crowd was booing the team, and every outfield player was raising their arms in frustration to teammates and the crowd after every sideways and backwards pass, to let them know that they (the players) had no freakin' idea what Southgate was wanting from them. Southgate tactics were negative, boring, and predictable. We were very lucky to get this far.
He was a lefty wokey brown noser to the lefty wokey F.A. He was certainly their type.
Personally, I’m glad he has gone. An overpaid coach with limited abilities.

Sorry Gareth, but if you want your £5m a year then, believe it or not, you have to face criticism when you underperform in your job.
And don’t then start crying about ‘personal’ attacks and instill a culture in the players to come out and attack anyone who says anything even remotely critical about their performances.

Southgate was sick of it? So were we. A dreadful tournament. Boring, negative and tactically inept. I even thought he would put Kane in goal rather than dropping him. A Premier League manager? How ridiculous. He failed at Middlesbrough. Which Premier League team would want his style of play? The pundits weren't personal. They just said that the tactics and performance levels were poor. He bottled the big matches by never going for it and was always trying to defend 1-0 leads. That defeat against Italy in the final was self imposed. His fault. The FA will probably appoint another dull PR man.

I'm very surprised Southgate stayed as long as he did. After so many years of lack of success... He surely worked hard but his best just wasn't enough.
Hope he'll find his way forward.

Southgate didnt just not get england over the line in winning a title. His style of football was just not attractive enough or successful enough and the lucky draws and then struggling to overcome inferior opponents all built up against him, one on top of the other.

Knows nothing about tactics.let give him the money.the best English squad in history and turn them into a laughing stock of world football.and year after year they still though he’s the man for the job..at last he’s gone.not by the FA who wanted him to stay for another 6 years?he realised at last he’s not the man…I hope he gives all fans who payed thousands of pounds to watch the final of crap there money back…now let’s go for a proper football manager, Klopp.Pep.Jose…

It's the style that hasn't helped Gareth, nothing personal from any pundit. He just refused to change or adapt which is why he was criticised so heavily when we struggled to make a forward pass. Simply put, his brand of football was not liked and people want to be entertained. Its pointless playing so negatively if you still dont win in the end. People see the type of football these players play for their clubs and recognise that there is enough talent in the England squad to play more positively. You are right about the final against the Italians, he cost us that with his negativity and he STILL didnt learn from it.

wheres the personal attack in the following from Gary Lineker????????
“You can think of all sorts of words and expletives if you like, but it was sh!t.
"Was it tactically inept? They’re just a little bit lost tactically. And that comes from the manager, I’m afraid. It really does. He’s got to get England playing higher up the pitch, as a unit. Because at the moment they’re not a unit. Are they not coached to play that?"
