I add pearl barley to my soups an stews and dried lentils ,I've made a couple of draft excluders for my outside doors from some leggings stuffed with old socks ect I also pinned some extra fabric to my curtains to keep the heat in . Making the most of what I have is what I do

This made me smile. I'm having a no extra spend month and thrifty living tips are grand. Someone I know has offered some frozen ham they are tired of and a Lady with chickens gave me eggs so the month going well. I have a well stocked pantry. Not buying keeps the oldest used up. The cat wrappers bag is so fun.
Love the bag from cat food pouches..... Years ago I knitted bags made from old plastic carrier bags, cit into strips, rolled and then used like yarn... strong and worked a treat. When I was a child, all our floor cloths were my dad's old underpants and the dishcloths were old vests.. My grandkids didn't like my thick porridge they were used to 'instant' stuff..... I just put my rolled oats into the blender made it as usual with a little milk and honey and they didn't know the difference.
Wow I couldn’t believe the cat bag it’s such a nice looking bag and what a great idea.🥰 in the states they used to make clothes out of flour sacks for the children during pioneer days.
I think the whole world should start back pedaling and go back to how it used to be. Work out how to make things before clicking through an online site and getting things sent to their door. ilona
Great video thank you Ilona. I hang my clothes up straight away after drying no iron required . Also it is possible to get the shower time under 3 mins . Wet the skin and hair . Turn off the water whilst soaping up . Rinse and out . Sorted. Batch cooking works as well if the oven is on make lots of food once a week and freeze if possible . That is what I do . Also I turn off all electrics that don't need to be on . Microwaves can be turned on and off when needed no need to keep them on all the time . The clock function has no idea what the real time is lol . We are all struggling with cost of living hope this helps someone too .
I don't have an electric dryer. I hang my clothes on a metal wardrobe rack once they've had a second spin in my little washer. For big things, I have a clothesline in my back garden or just hang them over the shower curtain rod. Socks and undies hang on a freestanding towel rack. Jon in rural BC, Canada

I actually love to iron; it reminds me of hot summer nights growing up when my mom was teaching us to iron by having us do my dad's hankies. Love that smell of hot cotton! :-D
I remember my mum teaching me how to 'boil' the hankies clean in a 'special' pan,and prodding them with a 'special wooden spoon, before putting them in the washing machine with a roller on the back, it was electric, that was only in the 60s,,,,,,can u imagine doing that now!!!!!! Ughhhh
I love the huge reusable bag u made!!!! I agree about the no ironing. I also wash my own car. U r so right about having the right mindset. Also I make saving on things into a little game mentally. It works for me.

This video made my day. I laughed so much at the tights bag! But what a brilliant idea. Love, love, love your tips and money saving ideas. Thankyou so much!
I am thrilled today as I make Irish bread with wholemeal flour. Usually more expensive than white flour, a lot more. Anyway, I got a massive bag of wholemeal flour (Indian) from Tesco for £3! It doesn't take much to make me happy he he. junOmars from Ireland Jesus bless you.x
You can cut up torn tights to use as string. Or you put in big onions in, make a knot between every onion and hang it in the attic for storage. They don't rot and you can cut one onion at a time, when you need it. Grandma lived till 105 and these are her little tricks to save some money and reuse things for saving the planet.

Instead of flavored water, we add a splash of bottled lemon or lime juice to regular tap water (we do have a faucet filter)…..put it in a re used water bottle, pop it in the fridge and it is good to grab and go for a drink! I also put some mint from the garden sometimes! Love your mindset; this is how I was raised.
I have some old pleated skirts that I had to take to the cleaners. (I wore them many, many times before taking them in). They came back to me covered over in plastic. I took the plastic off carefully, saved it, and used it to take out my rubbish!
I add a squirt of dish wash liquid to my bucket when washing the car. Works a treat and is way cheaper than proper car wash liquid. Love the cat food shopping tote. You are so creative. Keep well. Hugs xoxo
Thank you for your tips. I really like the cat food pouch bag. They are so resilient With the layers of plastic and aluminium. I think they are very hard to recycle so your idea is just fantastic.
Love this Iiona, I do all of the things you do and thought I was the only one who goes to these extremes. Cut the legs off just below the gusset. Close up the waistband and sew it together. Thicker tights are best.
