I believe they are in portage Indiana. Right by my house. That time of year there's no need for downriggers unless for trout. The coho usually are in the 5 to 10 ft depth for trolling
Don’t deploy your rods until after you’ve activated your Ulterra and set your troll. Spring Coho are NOT boat shy, so you don’t need to run your boards so far out (which of course will allow you to make tighter turns inside the pack). Set your boards to release on command and slide down the main line to the swivel at the top of your leader; this allows you and your buddies to reel in and net each fish without having to monkey with the board. Nice Laker! That area is known for good Lake Trout fishing in the Spring and Fall. Thanks for the video; I’d pull my Triton up to your neck of the woods, but it’s difficult to “leave fish to find fish”….😂
Those thin fins are also a great summer night walleye lure to cast or troll on flats. Also I may be the only guy running them on downriggers for summer kings. They catch everything.
How deep were your peanut flys running? I fish for cohos in the same area and have found at this time of year they like them VERY shallow: 8 - 15 ft down from the surface. I don’t even use leadcore- either dipsys for the deeper ones, or just 20-30 ft of braid out from your boards to a 5/8 oz keel sinker to a 5 ft mono leader then your dodger then your 18 inch leader to fly.
I have a 2020 Lowe 1775sc with a 90hp merc. I have never been out on lake michigan before but have been on large inland lakes. What kind of wave height is safe for my boat and what height should I stay away from?
I run the same down riggers you do. I fish mainly walleye on the Missouri River system and have lots of fish in the 16-20” range. What release would you recommend for light bites?
@@SuperiorAngling thats awesome buddy ! Make sure your on north shore out of ashbridges bay. Its absolutely nuts. Its about a 5 min run and your in 200' fov nasty drop off..Insane king action but you will get the ood atlantic coho and stealhead. If you hit the blue zone 300+ fov itll be nonstop coho steahead with kings mixed in. Absolute killer fishery. If you need any tips on the bite send me a msg and ill keep you in loop. Keep up the videos buddy ! Love the intro and the channel all together. Hope to see you out here bud ! Good luck and stay safe.
Manuals always work. Period. Plenty of things to go wrong with electrics such as fuses, internal components, auto-stop failing etc. It's just a personal preference, to each their own.
Absolutley badass edits! Loved the intro too. Sweet channel, glad i stopped by and got to binge the channel. I have a video slamming monster lake trout! You should check it out, that would be awesome! Love the channel
If your boat is set up properly, its not too hard to do. Just let enough line out to separate your boards. With a little practice you can get the hang of it. Outside board is connected to the top rod in our rod holder.
Thanks. I think I’ll have to be a little more patient. It seems like I will pull the fish (or weeds) thru my other lines. So, I feel like I have to real up the other lines.
LOL. We had plenty of meat from the salmon. Happy to let those trout go. Doesnt seem to be a huge population of them down there by any means. Could be wrong however.
@@SuperiorAngling Personally I've never cleaned one with anything but alewives in its belly. But they've all come incidentally on salmon sets so I really don't know what happens on the bottom. The browns do a good job of keeping the gobies in check and everyone wants to keep the brown trout around. Lake trout just don't generate money in lake Michigan like the salmon do. You were just proof of that. BTW you should come back in a month or so when the fishin' gets GOOD 🤘
@@reveredoutdoors1480 Makes sense. We are planning a lake trout jigging trip over that way soon, but realize we are the minority and have a weird obsession with those greasy things, and yes, not many chase them over there (which is why we want to come) You have a good bite going in Mind-late may eh? Kings or Cohos or both?
Manuals are more reliable in our opinion. Dont have to worry about fuses tripping in the rigger itself, electrical issues, wiring and more. Additionally, a lot of our fishing is in 80 feet or less so we can get a manual up just as quick.
Jason, our T.V episodes such as this one aren't monetized, so you shouldn't be seeing ads from UA-cam. If you are, it's out of our control and we apologize.
The color on those Lake Trout was stellar! Cool open water episode to get the season underway! Looking forward to the next one!
Plenty of big smiles. You worked hard and executed a calculated plan. Fish in the boat. Kudos to the team for another awesome vid.

THANK GRANT GETTING ME EXCITED FOR THE ICE ON THE POND TO BE GONE...
Another great episode!!!
that intro with the drone footage of the musky bite is insane!
Full episode with many more of those shots can be found here! ua-cam.com/video/kxx3JY9pjeU/v-deo.html
The flip flops, on the water, with snow on the ground...like a grown ass man.
Boat traffic on a school can be difficult. Good attitude about it!

Good to know!! Yes, they seem like a great year round bait! Thin fins for Kings?? Yes please! ha.
New subscriber here man. Really entertaining.

Nice fish. They really have a different color than here.
Yes indeed, both the salmon and the trout
Love the vid
Good video going to try McQuade tomorrow
Good luck!! Hopefully that skim ice has left us for the year.
Stuck at home with a broken leg, wishing so badly I could be fishing. I can’t tell you how many of these videos I’ve watched. Lol
What rod
eel\line combos do you run on the planter boards?
Rods are St Croix eyecon 8'0 Medium, Reels are Diawa Accudepth 47's, and mono line is 17 pound test.
In the summer I go on this boat launch in the summer waves are bigger
Getting into Lake Michigan coho fishing, can anyone tell me what lines, lures, and set-ups they are using?????? Please and thank you!
Hi Matthew F I’m using 10 pounds line you can use little cleos
What kind of rods and reels do you use for lake trout an salmon?
Great video, are you by Kenosha area?
I have a 2020 Lowe 1775sc with a 90hp merc. I have never been out on lake michigan before but have been on large inland lakes. What kind of wave height is safe for my boat and what height should I stay away from?
What rods you using and strength. Also what reels
St Croix Eyecon trolling rods. These are medium power rods in the 8'6 foot length. Reels are diawa accudepth 47's.
That early in Illinois you dont need down riggers ...Flatline or a 20' Dipsi if that
Is there a reason you don’t bleed and ice your catch? Nice vid BTW.
Havent noticed a direct increase in the quality of salmon meat when you bleed them. Walleyes and trout, yes but not with the salmon.
What is the best "speed" range for trolling salmon on Lake Michigan?
For coho, 2.3-2.5 seems to be good. Kings? We have no idea.
I run the same down riggers you do. I fish mainly walleye on the Missouri River system and have lots of fish in the 16-20” range. What release would you recommend for light bites?
Nice content so I got a question im a beginner what would be best setup for salmon? I have a 16 ft boat ?
Trolling
If you want coho fishing you should come down to Lake Onatrio. We got them up to 30lb 🤙
Its on our hit list this year!! Thinking early June

CDandR was thinking the same thing. I haven’t seen any coho this small come out of Ontario.
McVenison Steaks same for here. anything older isn’t even worth eating
All the high tech bells and whistles and you have manual down riggers....LOL

Launched out of portage and ran to Gary light... I’ve done that 100+ times
Atta boy!
Brads is ThinFish....Storm is ThinFin
So, Brad's was mentioned a lot, so I'm guessing that's what was used, and not Storm, is that correct?
Perfect for smoking, gotta love them fish.
So I live in the land of the big the state of Alaska that is really REALLY small for Alaska we have to hold our coho with both hands
LakesGreat The InCaught Was ChopRecord World The ,Also .Long Inches 92 - 02 About Are They Spawn They When But ,Smaller Are They ,RdY
Tntwins #1 A real nice one for Lake Michigan goes 6-7 pounds, but there are 10+ pounders around.
10 pounders? More like 25 all days and lake Michigan's rainbow trout are way bigger than alaskas
How deep are you fishing
Do you guys ever dock at barkers island
No sir.
Oh ok
You should try fishing with the googan squad or Eric Haatja
LOL. Erics a good guy and knows his stuff thats for sure!!

How do you run so many planer boards without getting tangled? Especially on those outside boards?

@@SuperiorAngling No I mean were trying to get the lake revived and our alewives back. I'll send ya a buck for every greaser I see boxed 🖒

youtube commmericals and in video commericals. come on now
