Fell in love with the idea of flying a bush plane over the last great frontier

I'll second what Rob said, it's what I always say too. You just got to get up there and experience Alaska for yourself. Put yourself out there and you never know who you'll meet. One thing leads to another. Go for it!

I just made a career change at 38 years old and am halfway through A&P school in Utah. My dream is to move to Alaska and work on Beavers and Otters up there. I would love any recommendations on where to start or possible opportunities up there when I get out of school. My plan is to work GA for a year and then do fedex 208's for a year and I may have enough experience to work up there. This was a fantastic video! Thank you!

The options for a beaver mechanic are endless. Alaska is short on mecchanics all around. Biggest thing would be to find a company the size you want to work for, in a place you want to be at. There is many places running the caravan too. Don’t limit yourself to just FedEx, but I bet their benefits are pretty sweet

@@RobOlsenDrye Ya I want to work for a small hangar for sure. I worked 15 years for UPS and will never do a big Corp again. I love the idea mobile maintenance traveling around Alaska. Is there any way to get radial experience down in the lower 48 or should I just expect to learn that when I get there?

One option for radial experience is to look at your local aviation museums. Sometimes the smaller the better. It'll be volunteer, but they're typically looking for help on weekends. Something on my to-do list after I get some more apprentice time.

I can’t think of any radial places specifically in the lower 48. But I Bet with some googling you could find someone doing beech 18 flight tours or something maybe.

I'm going for my A&P with school starting August and I'm 36 - was hesitant because of my age, but good to hear others are going for it - good luck man

Oh yeah? Fort Wayne? I’m actually not aware of the normal maintenance facility. I maintain the exterior when I have time!
