Only for Switchup will I immediately click on a video even though I'm not a fan of the game genre and watch the video from beginning to end. Says it all about the SwitchUp guys
Beat ‘em up was definitely my favourite genre back when I was a teen, I played them all! Double Dragon, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, you name it. Also a lot of arcade games like X-Men and the Punisher. Nowadays I hardly play them, although I really enjoyed Streets of Rage 4 on the Switch.
Love me some Beat ‘em Ups. Sad to not see Jitsu Squad not make the cut. It’s definitely up there for a Kickstarter game. Also, we getting more like Gi Joe and Karate Kid soon too
The one beat em up game I want is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. The fact it's not on switch is sad as I loved that game when I was young going to the arcade to play it
bros, you guys are missing out on two of the best games on the switch: The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa, and Fading Afternoon. Both heavily take from the River City games but have a bit more cinematic, melancholy storylines, and a day/night cycle that you have to complete side missions on. Both from the same dev, Ringo is a high school story & fading afternoon is a yakuza crime story, both spectacular games, Ringo especially is one of my favorite games ever made.
Already picked up most of these. Great selection. Remember playing Captain Commando and Knight of the Round in my local video shop back in the day. Good times
SoR4 is really well done. However, I don't think it's a very casual game as it can be highly technical. Maintaining combos and juggling trash mobs and bosses are pretty tricky.
One thing I love about Switch Online is the great classic beat-em-ups you can play. I find myself just booting Golden Axe or Double Dragon up so often. Going to send this and your couch co-op to my friend to see if there isn't something we can grab and play together. Thanks a bundle!
Grew up playing turtles in time in the arcades so shredders revenge for me was like being a kid again. Such a good game, may have to get the capcom collection didn't know it existed
that double dragon 3 : the sacred stones remaster is a switch exclusive and one of the damn best games on the switch, the one game i keep going back each time i grab my switch.
As others have mentioned Super Punch Patrol and the arc systems games that are basically brawler rpgs. Also there is a game that had a ton of research and some really cool unlockable videos about Vikings invading Europe. The game also has wonderfully graphic violence. There is a much simpler Viking beat em up roguelite as well.
So glad to see updates for these lists to factor in current games. Looking forward to seeing this occur for others on the channel. All fantastic content, cheers SwitchUp!
The only omission I can see is Streets of Red which uses the same engine as the latest Double Dragon game and includes many of the same game mechanics. I can understand why some people don’t like it as it has a strange colour palette (maybe trying to replicate game boy graphics or something?). Still, a great game!
Great video! A jumping round house stroll down memory lane. Captain Commando is a great game! Can we have a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs port please Capcom?
Final Fight occupies a seperate section of my brain to other games... There's something about those Capcom graphics from that era, takes me to my happy place! Great list, one of my favourite genres
Mother Russia Bleeds and Streets of Rage 4 are my favorites. Some others to check out are Raging Justice and a game called Super Punch Patrol that's available digital only on the Switch. The art style alone is worth checking that game out for. It won't be on anyone's list but it's worth looking into.
id love to see a beat em up that includes the absolute best aspects of every beat em ups so that there's a wealth of amazing features so that you have a superb and lengthy experience with depth
Streets of Rage is a pretty sacred game series for me and I only recently played 4. It’s a fantastic addition to the series and I hope it inspires similar games.
I feel like Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill: Slaps and Beans should of gotten a mention in this video. It is an overlooked beat em up dedicated to the iconic action movie duo of the 1970s.
My top picks are TMNT: Shredder's Revenge and Street of Rage 4 but River City Girls 1 and 2 are my least due to how slow-paced it is (but it's not a bad game).
"Jitsu Squad" definitely deserves to be in this list. Fun game, lots of depth in the fighting and really nice cartoony hd graphics. Absolute hidden gem! Played all the other games in the list. All really fun. Turtles and Streets of rage absolute instant classics. And somewhat underrated: Double dragon Gaiden. I enjoyed it soo much i think it's one of my favourite beatemups of all times. It's really good. For fans of the genre that didnt try it yet..go try it! You wont be dissapointed.
Midnight Fight Express looks like a great brawler with a different view point/camera view, which is an isometric view from above. I haven't played it myself, but it seems like it would be incredibly fun to play.
I really want to pick up TMNT Shredder's Revenge but, my wife wants to grab Splintered Fate...with over 2000 hrs on Children of Morta, we're looking for something similar and it seems to ring those bells! Thanks for vid, and keep it SwitchUp!
I've played ALL these games and without question the best long term and replay able one is Double Dragon Gaiden. The depth of that game and the character differences are so vast, plus the level changes depending on order are all done to perfection. I just wish the online was better and more active, but that's a small price to ultimately pay. A 3 player coop mode would also be cool (3 because of the 3 brothers!).
Great list fellas, I recommend Zero Team, a Hamster/ACA arcade release on the Switch. Fantastic pixel art beat em up in the vain of Final Fight. Great game! Cheers from Pennsylvania lol
Never was super into Beat 'Em Ups but I definitely played a few when I was younger. Picked up Shredder's Revenge because Turtles and had a lot of fun w/that and jut nabbed Streets of Rage 4 since it was on sale and my dad & I played the heck out of 3 way back when.
Seeing this reminded me of one of my all time favorites.... BATTLE TOADS Y'ALL!!! I miss playin' that with my brotha from anotha mutha, Jai. The good ol days...🤣
It’s great you have Fight N Rage on the list. But, Ninja Saviours/Once Again is better than an “honourable mention”. Also you can dodge but holding block while jumping. Both Fight N rage and Ninja Saviours are in my top 3 of all time.
I'm not the biggest fan of beat em ups, but I did love a River City Ransom game on gba! Oh and also, I never really thought of castle crashers as a beat em up, idk I always thought it was an action rpg... I played through it twice before it came out on switch, and got it here too!
Fantastic video lads and one of my fave genres 👌 I do like streets of rage 4 but final vebdetta feels better to play i find. Thanks for all the other recommendations though! I will get on those
Ninjawarriors and final vendetta are top 10 for me. Of c9urse this is personal preference. I have Double dragon gaiden and Jitsu squad (which looks decent) still yet to play so looking forward to playing those. Oh and fight n rage
after visiting an old school arcade with the classic games of tekken tag, king of fighters and alike this is what i was looking for to sink my teeth into, somthing other then sim life or shooter games, thanks a ton
I know you mentioned them slightly, but there is a collection with all of the NES/Famicom Double Dragon and River City/Kunio-kun games too on the Switch. The Double Dragon & Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle (dubbed Kunio-kun: The World Classics Collection in Japan) Has NES Double Dragons 1-3 and all of the Kunio-Kun games released both in Japan and internationally (the originally Japanese only games are even fully translated!)
I do love myself a great beat 'em up game, there's so many good ones on Switch too, Streets of Rage 4, TMNT Shredders Revenge, River City Girls, the Takeover, The Ninja Savours Return of the Warriors (i could literally go on forever) If only we would get a Yakuza game on Switch
The original Ninja Gaiden arcade game... that was one of my first favourites in this genre and is still fun to play (though tough as nails). I hope one day they put the Capcom D&D Chronicles of Mystara arcade games on the Switch. They were on the Wii U, so c'mon Capcom... pay that licensing fee and port them over! :-p
I’ll be honest, this is one genre I have never gotten into for probably no other reason than just not ever trying many. But hearing the love and care in Glens voice when he talks about them makes me want to give it a real go. Great video! I actually already have Scott pilgrim in my backlog so I think I’ll start there.
Here's me, just on the downswing from Double Dragon Gaiden (from your recommendation as well...) and a video to guide me in scratching that itch!! What're you doin' to me here guys?? I'm broke enough :')
I'd have definitely had Final Vendetta in the top ten. That toughness was by design and after a few go's you really start to get use to it. Plus there's a hidden credit on each level. Ended up one of my faves alongside Streets of Rage (all of them)
So there was a Kaiju beat em up that you guys covered once. Can't remember the name. Also not sure if Foul Play is on the switch but think u'd get a kick out of it.
I believe you get unlimited continues, but you have to restart at the beginning of the stage. I recall struggling with it when playing alone and rage quitting. Shredder's Revenge beats others.

@@uvin2730 For sure. I haven't missed one upload 🙈🥳
And we genuinely appreciate it mates - Mark
Literally exactly what I did! I feel the same way 😄
You speak my language!
Whoa, I have every game on this list. I really love beat’em up games.
I thought you might mate! Great games! Mark
Love me some Beat ‘em Ups.
Sad to not see Jitsu Squad not make the cut. It’s definitely up there for a Kickstarter game.
Also, we getting more like Gi Joe and Karate Kid soon too
I’m waiting for Jitsu to go on sale again!
Jitsu squad is so good the intro alone gets me so hyped😂
Great list. TMNT was made here in Québec with baldurs gate 3 and sea of star. I'm proud.❤
The one beat em up game I want is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. The fact it's not on switch is sad as I loved that game when I was young going to the arcade to play it

Thanks I try it
Should've been honorable mentions at least
Already picked up most of these. Great selection. Remember playing Captain Commando and Knight of the Round in my local video shop back in the day. Good times
I was just thinking about this... Perfect timing
SoR4 is really well done. However, I don't think it's a very casual game as it can be highly technical. Maintaining combos and juggling trash mobs and bosses are pretty tricky.
Lots of fantastic games on the Switch, I am glad you included Castle Crashers as its such fun playing it in co-op
One thing I love about Switch Online is the great classic beat-em-ups you can play. I find myself just booting Golden Axe or Double Dragon up so often. Going to send this and your couch co-op to my friend to see if there isn't something we can grab and play together. Thanks a bundle!
Slaps and Beans is an incredible beat em up with tons of charm
YES YES this - that needs to go on a list - cracking game! Mark
FIGHT'N RAGE, probably the greatest beat'em up ever made.
Grew up playing turtles in time in the arcades so shredders revenge for me was like being a kid again. Such a good game, may have to get the capcom collection didn't know it existed
Don’t forget Matty McMuscles was involved with The Takeover 💀
Nice list!
Takeover ain't a great game. Choppy controls, no back punch/kick. I'm a beat'em up guy own all game's in the list and Takeover was a let down.
that double dragon 3 : the sacred stones remaster is a switch exclusive and one of the damn best games on the switch, the one game i keep going back each time i grab my switch.
There’s Streets of Rage 4, then everything else.
Easily the best scrolling beat em up on switch
Some prefer Fight N Rage
Scot pilgrim baby!
Jitsu Squad should have made it in here somewhere.
Not a genre I'm good at haha but Scott Pilgrim is awesome 😎
So glad to see updates for these lists to factor in current games. Looking forward to seeing this occur for others on the channel. All fantastic content, cheers SwitchUp!
IGS Collection is great too!
anything in particular in the collection stand out?
The Gladiator
The only omission I can see is Streets of Red which uses the same engine as the latest Double Dragon game and includes many of the same game mechanics. I can understand why some people don’t like it as it has a strange colour palette (maybe trying to replicate game boy graphics or something?). Still, a great game!
I will have to check it out. I am always on the hunt for good beat 'em ups to play with friends.
Great video! A jumping round house stroll down memory lane. Captain Commando is a great game! Can we have a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs port please Capcom?
Oh man I love beat em off games
Raging Justice 🏆, Coffee Crisis & Eight Dragons should have made honorable mentions otherwise this video was excellent 🥇
Final Fight occupies a seperate section of my brain to other games...
There's something about those Capcom graphics from that era, takes me to my happy place!
Great list, one of my favourite genres
I think you’ve finally convinced me to get Final Vendetta, it’s been on my wish list for a while, but I’ve never committed 🙌
Beat em ups is a genre that I typically don't dabble in but kind of what to break through into playing, so this updated list was perfect!
Young Souls is another great beat em up RPG
id love to see a beat em up that includes the absolute best aspects of every beat em ups so that there's a wealth of amazing features so that you have a superb and lengthy experience with depth
Megadrive collection also has Alien Storm 👍🏻
I'm missing Raging Justice and Super Punch Patrol. I love Deku Deals, found ton of great games that I will never find on Nintendo eShop.
Streets of Rage is a pretty sacred game series for me and I only recently played 4. It’s a fantastic addition to the series and I hope it inspires similar games.
Shredder's Revenge has been in my wishlist since it came out. Eventually I'll clear out my backlog and get to it...
Dude just get it now. It's so damn good
It's a good one.
I feel like Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill: Slaps and Beans should of gotten a mention in this video. It is an overlooked beat em up dedicated to the iconic action movie duo of the 1970s.
I feel like beat em ups are making a comeback and I love to see it. It's especially fun playing them with my kids.
My top picks are TMNT: Shredder's Revenge and Street of Rage 4 but River City Girls 1 and 2 are my least due to how slow-paced it is (but it's not a bad game).
I dropped River City Girls. It is the only one the list that I played that I haven't eventually beaten.
Great video guys 👍
I know like many of us Glen is a beat em up savage
"Jitsu Squad" definitely deserves to be in this list. Fun game, lots of depth in the fighting and really nice cartoony hd graphics. Absolute hidden gem!
Played all the other games in the list. All really fun. Turtles and Streets of rage absolute instant classics.
And somewhat underrated:
Double dragon Gaiden.
I enjoyed it soo much i think it's one of my favourite beatemups of all times. It's really good. For fans of the genre that didnt try it yet..go try it! You wont be dissapointed.
King of dragons on the capcom collection is awesome! I used to have it on snes
Top-Tier Action! No two-tier on show here! 😉
❤love the channel💯
Thanks ❤
Midnight Fight Express looks like a great brawler with a different view point/camera view, which is an isometric view from above.

How about "Skinny & Franko: fists of violence", also a wonderful title!
Final vendetta is a great game! Best played co op
Having played Final Vendetta, I only realized Claire’s arm is unusually long watching this video, and now I can’t unsee it
Hi there, good episode to build a solid library with few games from different styles (and decent budgets aswell)
Great list fellas, I recommend Zero Team, a Hamster/ACA arcade release on the Switch. Fantastic pixel art beat em up in the vain of Final Fight. Great game! Cheers from Pennsylvania lol
I will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.
Isn't that the one Arcade Archives Beat 'em up game where one of the collectibles is toilet paper XD? I have that game for the Switch.
@@cubansupreme yep it's a wild one lol
Also would’ve added Wulverblade
Great Vid my Guys!
Pls a Tower Defense List next…
Peace
Side-scrolling beat 'em ups.
Love a beat ‘em up. Already have most on this list 😂
My friend likes beat em ups so I’ve been playing some with him (Shredder’s Revenge). Good list to find more games we can play
Turtles was so good. Ive played so much with my kids. Might play again tonight!
Seeing this reminded me of one of my all time favorites.... BATTLE TOADS Y'ALL!!! I miss playin' that with my brotha from anotha mutha, Jai. The good ol days...🤣
The sheer amount of teenage mutant ninja turtle games on the switch. A person can have a bias and have half their top 10 just be those games.
The Takeover looks like Final Fight and Fatal Fury had a baby.
Altered Beast is classic! It's basic as hell but can be beaten in about 10 mins and is tons of fun. Yes, I owned it and yes I'm biased.
I never managed to beat it.
If you guys haven’t tried Wulverblade it’s definitely worth a go for beatem up fans. It tells a good story.
Fantastic video lads and one of my fave genres 👌 I do like streets of rage 4 but final vebdetta feels better to play i find. Thanks for all the other recommendations though! I will get on those

For me the TMNT or the Kunio kun series are the best beat em ups on the Switch really
I do love a good beat em up. A nice way to de-stress. No think, just do
Need that Target Renegade remake
a lovely list of lovely games
I know you mentioned them slightly, but there is a collection with all of the NES/Famicom Double Dragon and River City/Kunio-kun games too on the Switch.
The Double Dragon & Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle (dubbed Kunio-kun: The World Classics Collection in Japan)

Not a genre I gravitate to... but I've flagged some for when they have decent discounts as my kids are nearly at the age to play them.
Дуже крута збірка, хочу ще!
Beat em up in the only genre everyone in my family will play. Best is when the wife, kids and I all play together
Tails of Iron. Great little game 👌🏻
It is a lot more than just a beat em up, but definitely The friends of Ringo Ishikawa doesn't receive all the recognition it should.
Great list!
I’ll be honest, this is one genre I have never gotten into for probably no other reason than just not ever trying many. But hearing the love and care in Glens voice when he talks about them makes me want to give it a real go.

Fight 'N Rage is the best beatemup for Fighting Game/Command Input moves enjoyers ;]
Thanks :)
Good job
Ahh..Sifu anyone? That is a big omission...
That's not a beat em up.
What is it then? Character action?@@ishimoto1597
@@ishimoto1597 well, according to Wikipedia, Steam and almost every news outlet that reviewed it, it is a beat em up
I wish they would bring back powerstone that was on the Dreamcast I played that game to death with the kids

Wulver Blade is good too
Could you do this style of vid for shmups pleaseeee
So there was a Kaiju beat em up that you guys covered once. Can't remember the name. Also not sure if Foul Play is on the switch but think u'd get a kick out of it.
Dawn of the Monsters
Excellent video ❤ i founded that the saving system of Scott pilgrim is awful...i left the game because of that .
Tmnt and sor4 are my favorite ❤ ❤❤❤
Midnight fight express is pretty good too.
Is Fight N Rage difficult? How do the continues work on it?
I believe you get unlimited continues, but you have to restart at the beginning of the stage. I recall struggling with it when playing alone and rage quitting. With a competent second player, it is much easier. My buddy and I beat it in a single sitting. We had to repeat a couple stages, but it wasn't too bad. Playing alone, you can just get swarmed.
