I like the way you use those longer soft hackle feathers for tying a soft hackle/wetfly. A lot of tiers videos show them using always a short, stubby soft hackle feather. It allows you to add a thicker longer feather collar and also allows you to use more feathers on your partridge skin inwhich aren’t very cheap. Great video!

Great Fly! A few years ago i started tying a couple of wet flies. I wanted to have a better looking alternative to fish waters with no, or almost no, current. As they turned out to be super effective, i started to use them more and more. And tied more and more of them. A simple pattern with a peacock body and a sparse black softhackle in front is one of my favourite pattern now. Easy to tie, only 2 (3 with metallic rib) materials and a super good look underwater. U should try that, if u haven´t allready.

I had a friend that was butchering chickens a few years ago. He gave me 10 skins and after I processed 5 of them I think I have a lifetime supply of soft hackle. Unfortunately they are all the same rusty brown color but they're great for crayfish patterns among other stuff. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.

Favorite team of softies: Guide’s Choice Hare’s Ear Soft Hackle, Pheasant Tail Soft hackle, followed by either a Davy’s Spider or Stewart’s Spider. Caddis, mayfly and midge in one swing of deliciously offered goodness. One of my other favorite softies: Barr’s Graphic Caddis in either tan or olive. I’d bet it would do well as an October Caddis pattern too.

It's obvious you love fishing and tying. I think you would be a great guy to spend a day on the water with. Went through the dry flys time, they are way easy to tie and fish not to mention much less expensive. Now it's just streamers for me if I get one fish in a week it's been good. 25 years ago I took my wife on trip to Montana, on the last day we were in Yellowstone Park.Saw a fish we couldn't catch so we ask our guide to have a go. When he caught, it the left side of his jaw was hangin on by a thread. It changed the way I thought about fishing. I fish barb less so the fish can get off with minimal tissue damage. I think If I can get him to bite that's what I'm after. How many fish caught on a barb and released live? Just saying what about our grand kids?

Starlings have great soft hackle feathers. You need the tiny ones. Get out your bb gun. I am also partial to the peacock, so I hang around petting zoos with my kids and have a friend who has a few peacocks on the farm and isn't too proud to save me a few. You got to have it from your friends. Also, I think you are overdressing it. I only ever put on 2 or 3 wraps. You have something like 10. I can't even tell for sure. I always thought they were supposed to imitate legs, so like Marshall McLuhan said, less is more. No mutant centipede.
