  • Today we experience the Belle Epoque at its best in Neuchâtel, the jewel in the crown of its eponymous lake.
It's an attractive medieval waterfront city with a rich history dating back to 13,000 BC and a delightful Old Castle that gave its name to the town as well as the lake.
The castle was rebuilt in the 15th and 17th century, and it's still being used as the seat of cantonal government.
We also visited the Collégiale church and witnessed a graceful example of an early Gothic.
Finally we got to enjoy the stunning lake view from a ginormous bench and we even got to see the highest peak of the Alps across the lake.

Growing Up Without Borders that’s just the thing, I don’t remember much of it. I was 12, didn’t have a camera! I’m hoping to go back and take my teen at some point. After seeing your video I’m so excited

Great! You'll love the whole area. If you can I would suggest coming in the springtime or fall. For me, these are the best times to travel.

Indeed, there is a lot of history in Neuchatel. As you stated eloquently, some archeological findings date back to prehistoric times. Particular discovery includes the neolithic community known as Lacustre (lac = lake) and refers to people who built homes on stilts along the lake thousands of years ago, and lived off fishing, etc... very rare find back in the 1960-70s (I believe). Great video, nice shots!!!

I think the flag is belongs to the Zähringer, which is a medieval noble family with land in modern germany and switzerland.
However the city is historically burgundian, so I might be wrong

Bern flag has a bear on it. Neuchatel has the eagle (sometimes) but definitely the red and white chevrons and gold borders from 1350. The City of Neuchatel adopted it while the Canton (State) adopted the green white and red flag since 1848. Hope this helps!

Your small city is very historical to christianity in the world. I always wanted to see it even in youtube. I just used my imagination how farel travel on foot enduring hunger and thirst in the hope of evangelizing the people here of the truth about Jesus Christ. In the 15th century.

Hello @PM Lady, University of Neuchatel (unine) is located in Neuchatel, a small city in the French speaking part of Switzerland, at the northern part of the beautiful lake Neuchatel (Lac de Neuchatel). Unine is divided into 4 faculties: Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Law. These 4 faculties are located in different places within the city. Most or all bachelor courses are taught in French while most master degree courses should be done in English. For a Phd English and French are both used.
For more information you can visit the main website here: www.unine.ch/prospectivestudent/home.html
