Babies are always moved in their cribs, even by their parents on the L&D floor. This is part of security/safety and all hospital staff know to challenge anyone who is just carrying a newborn.

@@theresas740 not where I am from. Nurses sometimes help the new mom with basic stuff like dyper changing or just rocking the baby a bit so they fall asleep. Sometimes they leave the room with the baby for that to give the mon some rest.

@@nela3986 Not sure where you are from, but in the US it is standard procedure to move the baby with the layette. Sure, the hospital tags tell you a lot, but if a nurse tries carrying a baby out of the room it's very suspicious.

I remember one time during Spanish class I felt one of my seizures coming so I notified my teacher and she was keeping an eye on me checking in on me every few minutes as it take a while, usually 30 minutes before it starts. The last thing that I remembered was learning about the Spanish word vosostros and then everything went black. It’s didn’t even feel like 10 seconds and I woke up to atleast 12 people standing around me in scrubs. Apparently I had my seizure and my teacher did the proper protocol, and when I didn’t wake up and I started seizing a second time she called an ambulance for me and had the school nurse come until the paramedics got their. Apparently I had seized atleast four times, and they had put me on oxygen and had a heart monitor on me incase I stoped breathing or my heart rate slowed down. And was about to get the life support machine ready for me. I was ok. I got to go home the next day. She is still my favorite teacher and I don’t know what would have happened if I was in a different class.

In the initial invasion of Afghanistan there was a soldier that got shot by an rpg and surprisingly enough it went through his vehicle and didn’t explode. It just lodged itself into the body of a soldier. Normally this would have simply lead to the soldier dying because it’s too dangerous to operate with a live explosive in their body. However, a doctor evacuated everyone from the area and he along side an explosive expert (EOD) worked together to save that soldier’s life! Now that soldier definitely never walked again and will live with aid of a wheel chair forever but he made it! They took that rpg and set it off on purpose in a safe way far from the base.

Two years ago, my mother went to the hospital due to a widowmaker heart attack. It wasn't her first heart attack, but it was certainly the worst. They decided she needed open heart surgery, and so that Thursday that's exactly what they did. During the surgery there was a complication where a hole was made in her heart. They tried to close it but every time her heart beat it would rip open the sutures.
We were told that if her blood pressure dropped or raised by even a little, the odds were that she wasn't going to make it. Even as the lady telling us finished saying that, we heard, "Code: blue ICU bed 2" come over the intercom. That was my mom's bed. We heard those words an additional two times that night.
The surgeon in charge as well as everyone else involved performed things they didn't even think they were capable of, in the surgeon's own words. My mom is alive today.

I was in the ER with my daughter, who developed kidney stones at 14, when I heard "Code Silver" announced. I had no idea what it was and there was no nurse nearby to ask, but I overheard a woman in the cubicle next to ours asking her companion what that meant. After a few awkward coughs, the person stammered out that it means there's an elderly person lost in the hospital. (Sounded like the person knew, but didn't want to frighten the woman) A little while later, a nurse came in to check my daughter's IV; I asked her about the code, and she said that there was an armed person on the loose inside the hospital earlier, but he had been apprehended and taken away. (The next day, I read that the man had come into ER with a loaded handgun and demanded to see someone in Intensive Care, where he wasn't allowed because he wasn't patient's family.)

It's interesting to see the difference in codes in different areas. In hospitals I've worked at a Code Pink is used for fetus in distress/women's obstetrical emergency, a code white is used for an aggressive/violent person, and a code grey is shelter in place. But a code red, black, and blue seem to be the same everywhere.

    • @yndrelbosch3678
      @yndrelbosch3678 2 роки тому +34

Well, that's actually because the code for 'missing/taken' infant tends to change a lot. Even in the same hospital or region. This, I'm told, is to confuse predators who might be on the lookout for such codes to avoid being caught. So areas where kidnapping and such are more common also tend to change their child abduction codes more often.

I remember the one hospital my dad worked at & that I worked at (twice; what can I say, the first time they needed the help, the second time I needed the money 😸) used "code Adam" for missing kids, code silver (or gray?) was for missing seniors I believe, white for combative persons (as they may need to see the folks in the white coats 😸), I forget the weapons (green?) or severe weather (purple?) ones; sorry, lol, been a couple decades. So fun that you ended with third degree burns as that's my only ER visit - almost 2 yrs ago now. I had this long flouncy skirt on and it caught fire, because I was standing too close to the fireplace, back turned. I had a bunch of second degree burns on butt, hips, ankles, feet, hands. But the real fun came with the third degree burns all up the back of my right thigh. Luckily the ambulance was able to take me all the way into Philly to a fantastic hospital with a burn center. A whole team of doctors and nurses surrounded me in the ER. I was very impressed with the team approach. There had to be 8 or 9 people checking me out. I thought I would just get bandaged up and sent home, but they admitted me and said the burn surgeon had to evaluate me on Monday (it was saturday when I arrived). So I was all like, ok, fine, I am sure I won't need surgery but I can stay to meet the doc. So Monday comes around and he checks my burns and says, yup, you're getting skin grafts. So that surgery was done on Wednesday, with the strips of the skin for grafts harvested from the front of my right thigh. I was sent home the following Monday. To be honest, it was all pretty traumatic. I put up a video of my 10 days in the hospital and my frugalistas contributed a lot of money towards my hospital bill since I didn't have insurance, which was just amazing. I think when I hit the 2 year mark in Feb, I'll put up an update video and show the pictures again of the original injury and what it looked like after surgery and what the scars look like now. I was at Thomas Jefferson Hospital and every single person involved in my care (except 1 overnight nurse who I thought was going to murder me) was outstanding.

If security has to sit with you, we don't wanna be there any more than you do, so chat us up and utilize us to work through your problems. I was the one who coded once. Not even in a hospital. I was in an infusion clinic for my first chemo treatment. The nurse had just hooked up my IV not 2 minutes beforehand. I turned red and started having trouble breathing. The doctor that was running the clinic happened to walk by my chair and he ordered the nurses to stop the infusion and give me a shot of epinephrine straight into my IV tube while he went to his office just a few feet away and called a code blue. My oncologist came running into the clinic so fast his coattails were straight out behind him and, on seeing how bad the reaction was, immediately turned stark white and started thinking of different medications to try so I could be treated safely. I think I scared the hell out of everyone there and I KNOW I scared the hell out of myself that day. I’ll never forget that feeling of gasping for breath and not being able to get any air into my lungs. I’ve also been the rescuer in a code blue situation, also not in a hospital. This one was in a school cafeteria. A boy in the class I was with had overstuffed his mouth with food during lunch and part of it got stuck in his throat. He started turning blue while I was getting another student off the stage. The other aide called out to me about him and I gladly traded students with her because she had frozen in her tracks and wasn’t going to be of any help any other way. I grabbed the boy out of his seat, stood him up and started the heimlich on him. Our height difference was too great for that to work though. On noticing that, I bent him over my arm and started giving back blows. He coughed up the food and started hyperventilating to make up for the lack of air and his blue skin slowly started turning back to pink. He was 6 at the time. Now he’s 12 and doing good as far as I know.

I was signing a patient in one day when a Code Blue happened, and it was labour and delivery if I remember correctly (either that or maternity). Either way... the patient's little kid asked what it meant and the parent tried to explain. Within a minute the code was cancelled. The kid was very hopeful while the parent and other close adults and I exchanged looks. We never found out if it was a good or bad cancellation. Definitely a different kind of interaction that day. Made us all pause.

A code blue can "accidentally " be triggered by pushing a code blue button in error. If this occurs, you will immediately hear "cancel code blue" often within seconds of initial call. In high risk areas there can be a code blue button which can be pressed in error. I've had family hit them trying to turn on the lights.

White is for violent person, red is fire, black is a suspect package, orange is for an outside sinister. Brown is for internal hazardous material spill, grey is for outside hazardous material spill or toxic leak (gas) , green is evacuation.

      Yellow - Hazardous spill
      Orange - Bomb threat

About code blue, for some reason, I got curious about that one specifically. I couldn't help but wonder whether or not it's really because people turn blueish when they die. Apparently, in 1962 Hughes W. Day, M.D. originates the concept of an acute coronary care unit for heart patients and establishes the first such unit in the world at Bethany Medical Center. Dr. Day and his colleagues also developed the cardiac "crash cart" and the term "code blue." The unit's success depended on the use of a highly trained physician-coronary nurse team to effectively lower the mortality rate from acute transmural myocardial infarction. I had just come back from a tour of duty in England, where I operated US military-owned vehicles with left-hand drive and US military-owned vehicles and privately-owned vehicles with right-hand drive. I pulled my own POV out of storage, got it ready to go back on the road and, finally, pulled up to the gate and got ready to go add fresh fuel and change the oil. I had been swapping back and forth between vehicles whose steering wheels were on both sides of the vehicle but always driving to the left of center, and I was mindful of the fact that the traffic was on the opposite side of the road from what I was used to. I was constantly reminding myself that the traffic on the near side of the road was coming from the left and traffic on the far side was coming from the right, so when the way was clear I let the clutch out and accelerated. Alas, I forgot one important thing.
I accelerated and gained enough speed that I could upshift into second gear, pushed the clutch in, reached for the gear shift . . . and punched the driver's side door with my left hand. And I hit it hard too. That smarted.

“He’s fine, it’s not that bad” then he said” how big is it” and my non said it was bigger than two of her hands and he was like “OH SHIT, GET HIM TO THE HOSPITAL!”

I understand that different hospitals have different meanings, but I think one Code is pretty universal: Code Adam, missing baby. It’s also used in many other venues, for their same situation.

At Walmart, my 4 yr old son was the code Adam. 😩. They shut the doors and every employee looked for my little. It only lasted a few minutes but it is a shock to hear that about your kid.

I worked at a hospital close enough to a nuclear power plant that we had an additional Code Orange that we drilled for: how to respond to an accident/event involving radiation exposure. Separately, a different hospital's Code Brown was always announced along with a Nurse Station, example "Code Brown, 4 North wing" it meant there was an open box of chocolates, come share.

Just days after giving birth NC experienced a massive ice storm, we thankfully had warning but the nurses were dong everything to make sure me and the twins were well enough to send home before the storm hit cause they were locking the hospital down for a code brown shelter in place. Thankfully we just made the deadline and got to go home.
The Q word, I actually made a joke about that when I was in the ER with my daughter. It was busy as fucking hell in there like insane levels of busy. It was also the day before a full moon and as she was being triaged I asked her 'okay so who uttered the dreaded Q word before the full moon?"

Wow, I didn't expect hospital codes to vary like this! Code brown = biohazardous spill (yes, including human waste in unexpected places), code white = violent person, purple = hostage situation or active shooter, grey = shelter-in-place/air exclusion, green is for evacuation, orange for mass casualties incoming. Yellow is for missing person. At least blue, red, and black are the same I guess 🤷

My boyfriends mom got a horrid second degree burn on her foot and up her leg and her first choice was toothpaste. He yelled at her after I told him it would hurt her skin more. She even said the doctors were wrong and that their Asian home remedies were what’s going to help it. Let’s just say she had an unhealed burn for 5 months before it started to scar. She’s very stubborn but we love her lol.

I work in emergency veterinary medicine. The last time someone said the “quite” we had 5 emergencies come in. 2 dogs hit by the same train, a dog having seizures in the lobby, a strangulation victim, a cat and a dog who had trouble breathing. We do not say that word. EVER!!

I've had to live thru code silver. Active shooter on my floor. 1 dead 2 others shot 1 paralyzed for life. One of my employees had a heart attack from the stress. We had to wait 4 hours for swat to evacuate us not knowing what was going on. All I could do is grab people from the cubes outside my office lock the door and hide. I never want to live through that experience again.
