It is utterly amazing how Snap-On can sell 5 to 7 year old hardware in their scan tools for thousands of dollars and people eat that shit up like it's the latest/greatest/fastest thing ever.
Just picked up a used Zeus this week with a cracked screen protector cheap! Ordered a new screen protector! Could not run crucial's hardware tool for some reason or other. This video helps on what to buy. Thanks!!
Thanks for the video, i just picked up a used zeus and i cannot believe it runs windows 10 with only 2gb of ddr3 1600! That ram is getting upgraded ASAP. Its crazy that these scanners are 7-9k new and the hardware (cpu, ram, display, etc.) dont cost more than $500
@@redcatxb125 Yeah, 4gb is max. Did you upgrade your RAM stick? With 2GB we have 1.89GB usable, and with 4gb we only get 2.89GB usable. I don't even know if it's worth it. An extra 1GB helps, I guess.
U wont have the snap on diagnostic software anymore and youll have to pray your snap on vendor will be able to reinstall it. Likely youll have to send it in, and thats if theyll do it assuming they are ok with the hard drive change
I currently have a Zeus plus, and was wondering how everything is working now that you have put a nice amount of time on it. Have you encountered any weird problems since you have did this upgrade. I’m just trying to do all my homework before I try and do this to my scanner. Also if you can let me know more about the VCI upgrade it would be much appreciated
Have had no issues since. I did send it out to have Windows 10 added on as well. Runs great I love it. The VCI you have is the same one if you have the plus the only thing diff is the screen size and scope module isn’t attached. That’s only reason I haven’t upgraded I find it faster having it attached and running at all times
@weldingjunkie nope I put it to charge on a inverter on my car thinking it will charge to keep it from dying on me. Next thing after the battery died I tried charging it on the dock and power cord was not booting up or taking a charge. I disconnected the battery and put it to charge as well no boot.
Hi, just bought a used verus edge after a long long wait. I live in Europe and the tool arrived with Europe car models only. It's the 18.4 version. Is there a way to add the US (domestic) cars to the software? To all you verus users. Thanks.
My triton d10 is freezing since i got it and even after update, and my snap dealer offer an trade in for zues for around 5k canadian dollar..trying to make a good decision, since im planning to get a pico scope and a laptop(dell 7720)
@@timlyon2924 night and day you can do a split screen with the Scope pid refresh is a lot faster plus it is valued to the tool when you’re ready to get rid of it makes it more desirable. I also upgraded the VCI to the canfd one
Hi I have a question what are the benefits from upgrading the ram? I'll be sending my Zeus in soon to upgrade to windows 10 I heard it runs faster and smoother so just wondering about the ram sorry I don't know to much about computer's thanks for your time

Lol that tool is 6 years old… they don’t even sell it anymore?
Nice! Thanks for the shout-out!
Great to see you around!
Absolutely Thomas, always give credit where it’s due my friend.
Great video Jay, I'm sure it will help many people 👍
Thanks Keith, hopefully it’ll help it as much as it can. Hope all is well.

I see its a 32bit install of windows, so you cant go higher than 4gb of ram then?

Thanks for making this! Was a grate help
Anytime glad it’s helping some folks. Makes it run much faster.
Can I put thermal paste on the cpu? Or is not serviceable???? ...
What happens if I don't clone the ssd and just reinstall windows from scratch???

Great video! Can this upgrade be done to a verus edge?
Awesome vid and step by step
Did you clone the drive from the scanner with the other drive plugged into the scanner then replace the drive after it was done cloning?
@@GrouchyGarageTips just cloned and swapped it
Than is an MSATA Solid State Hard drive not an MVME.
Do you mind yo tell us Where did you oder the parts to do the upgrades on it?

Hey do you think if the ram or ssd is broken it will not start up at all? Please let me know your input. Thanks.

How hard is it to clone the ssd? Do you have to buy acronis, or do they have free version?
It’s cheap to buy but there are prob others I just like it because it’s the best cloner out
