This general no-keyboards approach in all your setups actually makes a lot of sense. These tutorials are ace, would love to see one of your shows.
@Robert Grant I'm only talking about the use of limitations and simplification when building a setup for electronic music. Is he a musician? Yes. Samples and beats based electronic music is recognized by even the most sophisticated keyboard players, like Herbie Hancock and Brad Meldhau to name just two. A sampler or sequenced synth is every bit as valid an instrument as a guitar or piano.
@Robert Grant I differentiate between pop and higher art. This is definitely art
Thanks man! The limitations is what helps create unique and interesting things that may not come from a traditional keyboard based setup :)
watching you make music is not boring!
Love those moments where you get to enjoy your creations in real time - so satisfying! Makes it all worth it. Nice work!!
I am legit surprised how great the Impact sounds. Killer sounds man.
I was quite down, this jam got me feel better and I'm a bit inspired as well! Thank you!
Ricky bro, all of your live jam recordings are always super interesting and epic watching. They give an awesome insight into a professional producers workflow which is something that I personally find both fascinating and extremely informative - I learn loads whilst watching videos such as this one on your channel. Please never hesitate to show us the inner workings, in the studio footage as it’s all great material which is very useful and all very appreciated! Thanks for all of the great content buddy!
Make a shirt that says: "This is DSP, But whatever."
There's something about the way you comment things, I just love these videos.
Great jam! Good to see this kind of content from you 👍🏻
You're solely responsible for me hunting down an Avalon after watching your prior videos. I honestly slept on it prior, but went down a rabbit hole afterwards. I happened to get one in white/white also which happens to be my favorite combo though I would have taken any I found as it's ultimately about the sound. Interestingly, I was never an "acid" fanatic or 303 aficionado but I appreciated the sound of a well thought out groove. The Avalon is just next level, especially with the SEM cart which I luckily also tracked down. For all of this... I thank you! :D
Ahaha. That’s the color to have! I love my white on white
Ha glad I’m not the only one, kind of got obsessive about it too posting wtb ads everywhere 😂
SeventeenSeconds yeah I got obsessed with finding one after this video. Also got white on white! Can't wait till it arrives!
arggghhh I love watching people make the music. You're killing me, Enrique!
The moment you found inspiration was GOLD! Keep on truckin good buddy!
Damn that Pyramids is goooood !!!
Love your videos.
And that Bass and Kick combination 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ricky - your videos are such great quality. Mastery of so much gear and a fantastic ear. I'm always looking forward to your next video.
Thanks Aaron! that means a ton!
The more I see this Drumbrute Impact in action the more I want one... sick video man! Love your stuff!
Thanks! im super impressed by it, i know it'll eventually be a bit repeptitive, but it serves its purpose so well.
@@RickyTinez that's the problem with non-sampler tools, at some point your reach its full potential.
Dude. I've never heard the term "tool track" but that totally makes sense. Makes me think back to the rave days and some of my favorite tunes. They weren't all very complex. Sometimes all you need is a groovy baseline and some bumpin drums. Thanks for sharing, really dig this one. You have also opened my eyes to flangers. Generally, they aren't too my taste, but the pyramids really worked wonders. 👍🏼👍🏼
Yea. Suuuper complex. It’s about the subtleties (not sure if that’s a word) but for tools I don’t mind a simple groove to get me through 3 mins of a key change or vibe change while djing. Techno is easy to make. But really hard to make good techno
Where can I find your dj chariot stuff? That was a stellar jam.
sweeeeeeeet video man!!!! i can learn so much from this channel man, its one of my fav from all the content online, for real man.
I just love the sound of the drumbrute and pairthat with a Bass Line synth is just a super funky groove
Yeeees my man Mr Martinez slamming down the funkee techno beats. That's what's bangin on the block. More of that DJ Chariot please.😁🙃😁
“This Is actually perform live” ... I can’t wait to get to that point! It’s much more interesting to listen to other musicians than myself
This DJ Chariot is messing with my mind :-) Ricky Tinez advised me about a sampler but DJ Chariot makes me thinking about the drumbrute impact. I love techno & acid and this video has both. Great video!
ACEEEEEEED!!!!! i enjoyed watching /listening to this video....good upload man, Chariots on Fire 🔥
This was actually really helpful for me, as someone who just got a drumbrute impact! Thanks!
Actually, you did something other than jamming:
1. you made me consider Arturia analogue drum mashine,
2. I started believe in myself as amateur musician ;-)
damn! that's a win win! Thanks for the support Matthew
@@RickyTinezTinez you very welcome. I did notice that and - I don't think it's just me - always when you struggle with creativity is good to watch someone doing something related and it somehow ignites brain cells to start working. Cheers
I've been looking at the Drumbrutes as well recently, but sort of got confused that they have a regular Drumbrute and a Drumbrute Impact. Why the hell does Arturia do that?? It's like they're competing with themselves & I haven't been able to figure out which one to get, despite reading reviews & watching comparison videos.
I love the impact, bought it recently and it’s so versatile, I love how it has it’s known unique sound rather than just ripping off Roland gear like everyone else
Was doing this the other day with my impact, my workstatt and my mpc one. Was using the mpc input effects and i just stopped and wept...so grabbing my behringer pro one and my guitar pedal board. Great job Ricky, inspiring me to get at it...
yeah Ricky man great mood, I loved how you catched this moment : clear simple music making , expression, fun, not too technical .. I can totally relate to it! good job! Looking for more content like this: Liked n suscribed!
Watching this instead of Netflix
Always
Ricky Tinez and chill 😆
watching this and netflix at the same time
Surpringly this end up emptying my wallet faster!
Pre-quarantine joke
I enjoined this video so much, Ricky! I own an Avalon too and I would go so far to say that it is my most important instrument. I absolutely love it. Like meditation. Instant bliss.
very cool setup, didn't know about your other monikers! I also really dig running drums through the Pyramids you get so many unexpected results
yea man, VCF, Ricky Tinez, Dj Chariot, and more but those should stay hidden hahaha.
Thanks for watching!
Arturia needs to sponsor you, this pretty much sold me on the impact
I usually don't enjoy techno, but watching this jam is making me love it!
Very cool, we are getting straight into the groove while making my daughters dinner.
Always happy to provide the jams!!
Such an awesome groove with minimal instruments. Love this.
with each new vid u publish, your channel gradually becomes one of my favorites to check out, learn from, and ultimately gain insight and inspiration from toward my own production, which is haphazardly technical (a mess but i know where everything is). I feel super compartmentalized... to the point where I need to step back, way back... leave the doors to the compartments open and bridge the gaps if that makes any sense. ;)
You should definitely continue uploading more freestyles!
One of your best videos I think. excellent jam! I feel mad inspired.
Ever consider using the TR-8S and its onboard FX to do something similar to the Pyramids? That's what I'm gonna try right now...
Awesome to hear something with a bit of a different flavour from you. I always love your house grooves but this is sick, well done, really loved it!
i love you man! such a joy to watch this making
sick
love the immediacy of that repeat/slip step effect on the drumbrute impact. I like doing it on my DDJ 400 to try and make new drum patterns when mixing fat beats.
Love the fun you're having with it :) Inspiring to dust off my limited setup for fun. Interesting with the flanger pedal.
“Lost inspiration, turned on the effects pedal, gained inspiration, moved on” Love it 👍🏻😁
tight skills sir, fairplay
- could have been '89 in north london all over again -
damn this was sick! loving this content, dude
Moral of the story for newbies? Keep It Simple! Dude is only using 2 instuments and 1 effect pedal tied into a mixer going to a zoom recorder. Kind of a kick in the head how minimalist the setup actually is, isn't it? :)
less is more... sometimes more is more cool though ;-) but not in this case!
I think it highlights what you can do if you know your gear inside out!
Hell yeah. I make acid house and use no more than 3 synths, and a mixer. No DAW either. Plug and play. All day, everyday!
Jack Acid ah , and your millions songs where are ?
@@ilmondodifaxe8216 ?
The Avalon is just so freaking sick
This is the vid that inspired me to get started with my synths and pedals. Thanks Ricky - TomTom
it is sooo fun to watch your videos! it is a anti-depressive positive boost in my mind ;) thank you !
Dude I just love watching you create and vibe to your own stuff so hard you get goosebumps, damn. This is the shit. Also I agree 100% that this just sounds sick as it is and must be its own track if it isn't already. Dope stuff through-and-through, super educational and inspirational, you are very quickly becoming my favourite music producer on UA-cam, hands down.
I really like how well you know how to work your machines,,,very inspiring !
This is great, I own the regular drumbrute and a monologue (and some guitar pedals) and this video gsve me a lot of confidence to jam with what I have.
Sick stuff! I forgot about that avalon synth.. so cool how theres filter carts. Keep kickin it dude
You'd definitely dig a small eurorack setup to pair with these two. I can hear the distortion of the Touell Skouarn Sonveskan mixer and preamp dirtying this up real nice. Maybe something like a Mutable Instruments Plaits, or the smaller Michigan Synth Works Beehive to send the sounds underwater or whatever you're feeling. That kinda combo and a little reverb, then you're into transcendental territory! Keep up the great vids, I'm really enjoying this kind of thing!
Hi Ricky I'm really enjoying your videos thanks for posting
Love it when you provide this kind of content! More, more, more! (please) :)
You inspire me both to keep making music aaand getting a better desk ;) abrazo
This is a better review. Usually, this machine always sounds the same. I will be running whatever I get, through a DBA ROOMS, and whatever else, I decide to run it through. I need something easy to use, and sounds decent. I don't like the idea of the sampler, because I finally figured out that you have to use cards, or hook it up to a computer. I want something that frees me from that. Thanks! I really enjoy your content. Your video on the Microcosm sold me, on that. That's another thing I like running my synth set up through.
This is such a great post. Lots of love for this! 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶💥💥🔥
Amazing stuff man, thanks for sharing. Gave me plenty of inspiration (simplicity!)
Right, so you say at one stage that messing about with this is a little boring - well it isn't! I make my own acid house without a DAW, using hardware only, and LOVE it! So I could watch this type of video all day long...oh hang on. I just have. Anyway, this Drumbrute thing...looks very nice. I use the Korg Volca Sample, the Korg Microsampler keyboard, TR09, TB03and a RE303 . Oh, and a small Kaos pad 2 for basic effects. Aaaand that's it. Please keep making these vids!
Damn that Avalon Baseline is a fine beast
Absolutely love your channel mate 👍🏼
Thanks man. I just got impact and Roland se02.. I am learning some great stuff here. So thanks the more details the better...thanks again. Playing micro freak on top.
Goosebumps don’t lie!
i loved watching you make music next time dont cut it short! i enjoy learning the way you play and make changes plus your music is very very fun to listen too - make more mixes on the fly!
This was intensely satisfying to watch 😌
Tweaking the pitch knob on the DBI bassdrum is one of my favourite things
My kinda track this!
I find layering the analog kick from the Impact (with an exaggerated delay) on a sample kick on the Digitakt really works well.
Sounds great! One of my favs, hope you release this.
P.S. Would love to remix.
Yes! That's what I'm looking for, it's always so inspiring to see you playing live! Would be interesting if we could have a closer look at the fx set up with your mixer.. I'm just a noob at this point 😜 thanks Enrique, keep it up!
DB was the 1st drum machine I ever Sampled. It was soo easy to understand. But I got the TR-08 instead. HAPPY? YES. Wish I had a Twin with a DB? ABSOLUTELY.
I like the random section. Bravooo! :)
Bought the Drumbrute Impact as soon as it hit shelves. What you said at the end... "on a system... my god, this thing sounds IN - SANE" ...is exactly what I was thinking when I bought it. Now just to rent out a club for the night and just line in with the Impact...
Awesome vid. \m/
Hahaa. Let me know when you rent it. I’d love to come test a few things too
Love this Vibe - You've given me inspiration for sure!
Really enjoyed that musically AND learned a load. Awesome! Thank you :-) :-)
My tool of choice in case of Techno is shuffle... it makes beats so much more dynamic and groovy
If you have not tried the A&H DB4 mixer you really should. You will dig the loopers and fx. Yes, pricy but will open up your set building ability I think.
face wrinklingly good, ricky seamless
15:08 - 17:30 is just magical
Sitting here at work bobbin my head to this beat! Sick!
you don't need a 11 synths, you just need talent tuned to 11. so yeah, nailed it. Thank you for the inspiration. Time to buy that EQD Pyramids
Damn Ricky! Incredible jam. Turned it up a bit too loud, neighbors knocked on my front door ... uh, oh I thought. Nope, they wanted to know where the dope music was coming from. Thanks dude! Release it, and I shall buy it!
haha that's awesome!
That buildup you made in the end was so freaking good :0
thats one way to make techno
Live for these jam sessions🙌🏼
Wow that impact and Avalon sound so great. Need to resist gear lust and be happy with my Sh-01a and TR-08 (amongst lots of other gear). I like the idea of different hats. I'm trying to figure that out for myself since there are so many directions to go with gear. Lo-fi, Techno, House, Boom-Bap, Trip Hop, etc...
Hey! What a cool jam :) But, just a question, what do you have as input in your pedal effect ? Haha don't understand how it's working ^^ thanks
im asking the same question
After actually watching the video ....... he passed only DrumBrute thru the pedal and connected the pedal to the mixer, avalon was not connected to the pedal. you can hear the flanging effect on the drums but the synth sound has no effect
So on the most left there are 3 channels DrumBrute, DrumBrute+Pedal and Avalon
Made me bounce in the bus! Not a style I'm making but that was dope seeing your workflow, thanks for the jam!
Thanks! Fun to listen to, and I learned something...
Great jam! How would you go about turning this into a releasable track? Do you just edit the full recording, cutting out the “bad” parts, or…? Could make an interesting follow-up
Good idea Gilles, that’s pretty much right. I record me jamming for about 10-20 depending if I’m into it haha. And if I can I record everything into separate channels and cut accordingly. Make sure I got an intro and bam, done track in 1hr
@@RickyTinez you could do multitrack recording with a good old behringer xenyx ufx 1204 , with either usb , or by usb
Check it out
looks so much fun! Great vid
Another dope video, makes me want the avalon
I built an almost identical setup independently of this video. I love this!
Omg at 9.26 that bass part 👌👌👌😍
nice jam, always a joy watching those expensive toys in action
Inspiration! Thank you, needed this 😁 🎹🎶
DJ chariot needs his own channel acid is coming back. I love playing acid in my room and would like to do something like this in the future. Acid🤤😋🤤
I love playing with acid too🤣
man, this was great. thank you for this upload
you're a wizard man
