I imagine gear party where everyone is guest, everyone is artist, everyone is a person who can learn and who can share some tips. And you would fit perfectly. Special thumbs up for poncho vibes 👍🏼
i appreciate you breaking down the hardware. live setups are awe-inspiring but they seem so complicated and daunting as a result! the Lydia Paige classic is a nice touch as well.
Admittedly, I wouldn't have expected the Labyrinth and the Microcosm as part of a hybrid *techno* setup. But here we are, with Jeremy dropping sick hypnotic beats that have me here with my leg bouncing to the beat.
In Live 12 they released new device called Variations which allows an ability to tweak parameters (buildup) and then reset to previous state in one click. It is somewhat similar to Elektron workflow (Ctrl - no shortcut). Great for performance!
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation of all the pieces in play here! I've been trying to have a little more structure in my jams, and I'd like to start using Ableton as a main brain for them. It's pretty rare to see people talk about using DAWs for this kind of thing because so much focus is on grooveboxes, hardware sequencers, and live loopers, but as someone who doesn't have much hardware it's great to see more discussion of integrating plugins. And I love the discussion of macro mapping; I just picked up a Launchkey 49 and have been trying to figure out how to best use its faders/encoders in a jam setting. To your point about faders and buttons on your controller, I feel like Novation will wind up making a new Launchpad with faders/encoders at some point, seems like a pretty natural product and a good way to compete with the Push - focus more on hardware control since they won't be able to compete on software.
You're right, I think a lot of people disregard how much utility Ableton can add as the "main brain" of this type of live improv setup. It's definitely tempting to want to go "DAWLESS with a capital D" for those tactile no-screen vibes, but especially when paired with the Push (and a well organized set of "collections") I'm never really menu diving or even looking at my laptop screen. Add a multi-channel audio interface and Ableton can act as mixer, FX rack and sequencer all in one, while still allowing you to use whatever external hardware you want. All of the above can be automated too, so you can record and loop parameter changes on any of your FX. If you have a DC coupled audio interface you can even use some of the channels to automate and send control voltages for analog gear (using Ableton CV Tools). I also use the MIDI routing, MIDI filters and MIDI FX a TON, including some generative max for live devices such as [stepic], to allow me to improv fairly complex chord patterns across multiple external devices live. The only downside is the more you lean on Ableton in your setup the more powerful your computer has to be, especially for live improv where you can't freeze tracks and latency has to be relatively low. My M1 Max seems to handle everything I throw at it hovering around 20% CPU, but I bet I could bog it down easily if I wasn't efficient with my audio effects.
Loving that Metal Fetishist! I just finished putting together a live/hyrbid dj techno setup with a DFAM for my rhythm generator, but this thing looks WAY more immediate.
Totally banging! Wish I could hear this on my old warehouse system. It's somewhere out there now, being enjoyed by the young folk of the day in some warehouse.
Man this is one fun journey of a techno jam… I love how you are using the Tom Toms as the main melodies and the core instrument to switch up the main driving track… at least they sound like toms… could just as easily be some other sound pitched down that just sounds like toms lol
I am realizing I really love what you do on youtube, I love your music and your all vibe. Thank you for that and be sure that I am going to explore all of your work ! kiss from France :)
Regarding DAW controllers with faders, I've been very pleased with my APC64. It can run with Ableton/DAW of choice, or operate standalone, which has been nice. 8x faders (Touchstrip, not "real" faders, but I've grown to enjoy them quite a bit), 2x MIDI outs, and 8x remappable CV/Gate outs, so it plays nice with my current modular rig. Loved the set + walkthrough as always!
Hi Jeremy. Fellow Jeremy here. I'm also inspired by Colin. I'm also inspired by Julia Bondar. You should check out her stuff and then make more of this kind of thing. I like it.
The set is dope, the effortless blending of sections and the control over energy level and vibe is uncanny. (: Ok, so the outfit is obviously the same that Clint Eastwood rocked in "for a fistful of dollars", surely there's some superdeep symbolism behind it, that flies over my head.
Bruh this absolutely BANGS. Also side note it's refreshing to see you still rocking the Push 2 with all the Push 3s out there nowadays. Still works phenomenally well and still gets updates!!
Shout out to the Push 2 fam. They'll have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands... or at least break it's compatibility somehow. Do I get bonus points for still using Live 11? 😅
Mmmm! Love that sound of the METAL FETISHIST 😅 I would like to have you create a video about just this unique Percussion/Drum Machine. Not quite sure if I'm going to purchase it yet. I had a friend who always wore Ponchos and he looked great in them. You look very comfy, warm and quite Dashing in yours. I have a couple of Ponchos but they look too "new" even though they're from Mexico they aren't the old style antique classic designs like yours which looks to be from either Peru or Argentina, South American in its design or you've got an actual Antique from Mexico dating back to the late 1960's! Excellent sounds ❤ Love what you're expressing ~🎉
Hybrid is the way to go cause you have the hardware in case the software tanks but the software gives you a huge amount of sounds combined with the real analog.
This is awesome. Thank you and subscribed. :) BTW: have you ever experimented with trying to detect the voltage of the plants, that are so close to your equipment and cables, as a source for electrical input signals? ;-)
Hah great job! Love how much you’re doing with a relatively small setup there. And thanks for the shout out! 🤘🏽🔥
I ❤ Ponchocore
I know I was so happy to see it, I LOVE my Poncho as well! YOU KNOW THE SCORE PONCHCORE!
I imagine gear party where everyone is guest, everyone is artist, everyone is a person who can learn and who can share some tips. And you would fit perfectly. Special thumbs up for poncho vibes 👍🏼
inspiring as always!
thanks boo
@@RedMeansRecording yaya! definitely want to take the labyrinth for a spin sometime, seems really cool
Looks like you did your own "Burning Man" with that outfit. Let's go. 👍 Banger jam.

Great now i'm GASing for a fuckin poncho.Damn u Jeremy :D
The real star of the show
@@RedMeansRecording this jam is completely insane btw. Got me thinking of getting a subharmonicon and a labyrinth to use with the M8 doing drums
Branded ponchos coming soon........
I was thinking the same thing! I could really go for one of those
Non-DAW-less DAW-less. No one can complain and no one can boast. Great session. Really enjoyed that
I didn’t know Body synths . Super cool for improv
The poncho slaps hard and so does this performance... great work J
Metal Fetishist is sooooooo much fun, so many places you can take it 🔊🔊🔊🔊 love this setup

Colin Benders Arte Concert 💜 - I'm proud my tax money is paying for it! I hope that never stops. Thanks for another great video, Jeremy.

Love it! Random drums on top of random sounds on top of random pedals.
Decks, Effects, and Comfort.
Love this format, the instructional part at the end was sooo helpful! inspiring music in the performance too, rock on
Totally banging! Wish I could hear this on my old warehouse system. It's somewhere out there now, being enjoyed by the young folk of the day in some warehouse.
Absolutely slaps. Beautiful. Love what you've done with these synths. Totally inspired to try similar ideas in generative music.

I got a Labyrinth yesterday and its the most fun addition, absolute menace. Absolutely bonkers good jam🔥
Love your videos, I was today years old when I realized I wasn't already subscribed. Sorry for leeching for so long!
You're right - this absolutely BANGS
This was super inspiring Jeremy! Now I want to suddenly make techno
Awesome stuff Jeremy, thank you very much for both the performance and the explainer!
Not even a big techno guy but this is hard af. One of your best live sets!
BANGIN SET...and the poncho is brilliant!!
Rippin set! Watching your happy dances makes me happy

So good as always thank you for getting me into this world of music
Loving the "desert rehab clothing" vibe.
You did a great job with the poncho
Excellent set! And you make that poncho look good.
Loved this. Thanks Jeremy!
thanks dude!
Also watched the Collin set a few days ago 🔥
This slaps. You've just inspired me to dig my gear out of the closet.
Yeah, get that poncho out of there.
The music is awesome. The poncho is hardcore stylish!
When are you playing in El Paso, TX?
This place needs a shake up
This came on as a "next up" and it was so good I had to see who it was lol. Great performance!
Jeremy, you are a deadset legend man!
I totally thought you were channeling Colin Benders! Loved it
Great Set! and sweet poncho .. The official power cable from Ableton solved the dim pad lights (but they were still fairly dim with it afterwards.)
i have the official power supply plugged in :(
This is great!! 🔥🔥🔥 Also I want the Labyrinth now haha
Labyrinth just keeps showing up in hardware techno. It seems like a perfect fit
Ty for not shilling all the new Roland bs I got so much more respect for u

Awesome set! Thanks!
I really liked this, thanks for making it.
I really hope they make a module version from the metal ❤️
Your poncho makes me happy, too.
fucking sick techno bro. we could feel you feeling it
Thanks a lot for the walkthrough!
The poncho makes me think of pow-wow techno, which is a very interesting blend of native pow-wow and techno.
I was just wondering if this existed the other day. Now I know the term to search - Thanks! Any artist rec’s?
Love this video, love the poncho and more important than those things, thank you for making me aware of @ColinBenders - holy shit!!!

Really enjoyed the jam! Bumpin
Thanks for explanation!
2:30 in and i allready like it, well done!
The Chroma sounds so clear ... wow
I'm kind of feeling some "The Music Lesson" vibes by Victor Wooten from you with your poncho :)
This is epic!
Awesome in every way! 🤩
Absolutely mega!
that Flamel tattoo! yes!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
big 90's detroit vibes ♥
Nice, thank you for the video. Besides the music I really like your laptop stand, I'm looking for something similar for my live setup.

Rockin' the poncho!!!
Yep. Banging it does, Señor!

Fell in love with this metal fetishist!
Great stuff!
Push really is a mad sequencer.
Hybrid is the way to go cause you have the hardware in case the software tanks but the software gives you a huge amount of sounds combined with the real analog.
I want to get my hands on the metal fetishist 🤘🏼
Love it! Please more ❤
love hearing a happy jeremy play

😭 Never hit the Trigger button! Smashing jam Jeremy! ❤
Freaking amazing.
I love how much "pacific northwesterner doesn't know what to do when the sun comes out" there is in this video.
Keep banging em out Jeremy :)
Dude the jacket makes it like 5x better
it’s a vibe for sure! 😊
