Amazing information. Thank you. We have just found a barn owl. It has an injury on its wings. Unfortunately we don't have vets around us that have any experience with birds. We will try to treat it ourselves and hopefully it will be ok. The video on feeding and hydrating owls was also very helpful. Great work!

He is a great man and role modell for me. I just took over to be a barn owl goodfather here in our region and would love to have him around for some advices.

What about a found screeching owl? Just found one and not sure if injured but was on ground in heavy rain and after rain stopped it wasn't flying away. We live in Texas and not in woods. We have left a message for the Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition but waiting for a call back.

@@BarnOwlTrust1 He was super sweet and gentle, we found him cold and it had been raining for two days. Sad to find almost his entire left wing was gone. We scheduled to take him to the WRC, He allowed me to pick him up gently. He was warm in a box with clean new cloth towels never used, well ventilated, he drank easily with a dropper unforced with the sugar water, he even ate a tiny mouse we purchased the following day and warmed to room temperature. He willingly ate on his own half of the tiny mouse. He was not lethargic and very curious very kind allowing light petting on head with no fear or fight. We were excited to see him be saved. Unfortunately, he didn't survive. However, we were told by the Rescue that if had we brought him in and they can't be rehabilitated (which one without a wing technically can't, that there is no sanctuary they take them to). Amazing little guy.. Only comfort we had is he passed being loved, warm, full belly vs outside in the cold/rain alone. Seeing him really made me wish we could own or foster one here in Texas.. We've had a collection of strange rescues found outside come through our home from an Iguana, Bearded Dragons, different birds, cats, dogs, etc..

@@BarnOwlTrust1 We would welcome it! Family was sad he didn't heal and become a part of the home zoo. All but the dog have shown up/found outside and we have taken in. The new addition, our dog, is quite unique from S Korea (he wasn't a pet) he was scheduled to be eaten for Boknal during summer by a group of workers. He was at a ship yard I worked at and outside on a 3ft leash under an open security shack. I bonded with him and paid the security guard $200 to locate his paperwork and let me take him then brought him to US. He is an amazing dog, so polite and we learned Korean to speak all commands and adding others. All pets get along in the house, which is strange. An owl would have fit right in and loved here. Maybe we will have another without the injuries.. Hats off to all you do with these amazing birds!

I doubt this post will be looked at. However if so i found a owlette. I cannot locate the nest nor no vet experienced to handle the little guy. We found him after a really bad storm. Cold an shivering. Like other birds we left it be. Not knowing barn owl wont help em unless the whole nest is lost. So hear i sit watching your vids. He seems fine. Feathers barely growing on the wings, he very vocal. I been slowly getting it to drink, gonna try feeding soon. Kinda was scared of the bite more than its talons. Needless to say i discovered 8 new holes in my hand lol. Any advice to help the survival of this owl be great. Kinda alone and putting it back where we found it Will kill it at 30 degree weather.

Saddly the owlette passed away early yesterday morning. I'm thinking maybe he was sick but due to limited knowledge I would of never known. Im just conflicted on did I do everything right in making his last days happy or did I prolong his suffering by interferring trying to help. Anyways thank you greatly. We didnt have any vets or shelters out here suited for owls. So I was on my own an glad my old brain still learns fast. To process your videos.
It's always very sad when a rescued owl dies - but our view is that it's better to have tried to help, even so. As you say, we can't always be sure what else might be wrong, that cannot be seen, so it sounds like you did everything you could, and for that you can feel that you did the right thing. Hello, please help me. I found a baby owl in my garden. Sadly there are no sanctuaries or rehabilitation centres where I live. I'm in Gambia,ca tingly country on the west coast of africa. I could not find any place to get mice or chicks to feed it so I went for option two. I've been feeding it raw beef or raw chicken. I've had it for 10 days and it's been doing well but today it is weak. Cant even move much. It was fine up until now. I'm not sure what to do. Please help I'm so desperate. Thank you
Oh dear. This is a very sad case. Without wanting to make you feel worse, we suspect that the absence of roughage on the owlet’s diet is what’s causing its deteriorating condition, so switching to small mammals or dead day old chicks might help. We know you've tried to source them, but maybe you haven’t tried trapping rodents? We even heard of someone who wrapped small parcels of meat in soft bits of feather (after removing the quill) or hair shaved from an animal skin. As we don’t know which owl species it is, it’s very hard to know if there’s any chance that the young owl could be fed by its parents if it were put back where you found it. In the worst case scenario, you could just put it back anyway and let ‘nature take its course’. It will probably suffer for less time that way, but we understand that you may not take kindly to the suggestion. Very sorry we can’t be of any further help…

Besides, I could never live with myself, the guilt alone would kill me. I have started using the small fluffy feathers and I've been feeding it that and giving it water as well.
