Thank you so so much for this video I run a small animal rescue and had two barn owls dumped in a small rusted dog cage, they said they were imprinted but all they have done here is hiss at me and I am really concerned. They have been pets for kids who were fans of harry potter, never flown outside, got a long road ahead of me. I have not found alot of informaion on how to care for them then this came up on my feed and thank god.
Video is fab! Very well explained. Everyone thinking of owning and training one of these birds should do their homework and definately give this video a watch! I always imprint and train my Barn Owls this way and the results are great. Thankyou for making the video
Really good video! Great information and you can tell you really care about people buying these birds on a whim. Beautiful birds but not something I’m ready for
Beautiful bird! I've been reading and researching about barn owl intelligence. I keep coming across contradictory statements about owls being completely non social animals; simultaneously, I've read academic journals that discuss how barn owls have wide social capabilities and great memory. What are your thoughts on barn owl intelligence from working with them? Do you think there is unfai testing due to the farsighted eyes and solitary nature of these birds? Again, brilliant video!
That was very interesting, great warnings on loosing your birds of prey, we have a Harris hawk loose near us been around for a couple of years, I hope It doesn’t breed with the buzzard that would be so bad , not sure if that’s possible . I also know a lad who lost his barn owl ,no telemetry, Your barn owl is a fine looking owl.
Thank you for this informative lesson! Have one question from the end of this video. Is the owl flying off the glove, circling, then returning to the same person? Is that a normal flight pattern or behavior for owls? Or is this something you teach them to do? Maybe she was flying from person to person. but if she was leaving, circling, and returning, that is a neat behavior. How would you train them to do this? Thank you for your time! Watched this video to learn more ins and outs of working with owls.
Thank you very much for this! I recently started volunteering at a Wildlife Rehabilitation facility to hopefully be certified to work with native species in the near future. The facility I go to has a new baby barn owl that is going to be used as an educational animal so I get to see it being trained; this video explained a lot of the important ideas really well!
Great video learn a lot. I have been given an owl but the one they gave me is already 4 months old and agresive and i would like to know how to gain its trust n What is best for the owl and how i can have a strong bond with it. Please make a video on how to gain trust on a owl that hasn't been imprinted.
As per our video, we wouldn’t work with an owl that hasn’t be imprinted as it can be very stressful for the bird, you’ll need lots of patience and time
That glove is a bit dramatic though... Like you're working with a 10lb golden eagle. That barn owl weighs about as much as your cell phone. My rescue owl would perch gently on my index finger.
Guys i need help as a single child i have always wanted a pet never a bird cause i m a dog person so on my 17 th birthday i got my self a spitz and b mix baby however after 2 months of having my dog suddenly today a barn owl droped by at my house now in our culture Barn owls r symbol of Wealth so when the owl slapped my dad with its wings my dad thought he was sick and got him inside of our house now he lives in a room closed for today... I wanted to take it to The vet with my aunt however he Actually digged his claw in her fingers The owl only likes my dad he flies away when i try to pet him... He didnt eat any Raw chicken he only ate a mouse i think
More people should be as honest as you when doing animal videos. Faulkner’s knot learnt!
Omg i loved him. He's teaching perfect.

Barn owls are the exception. They will tolerate communal living. Harris Hawks, I think, are another rare example of raptors working together.
One of my owl pairs is sat on ten eggs at the moment.
so.... how did it go?
@@freekapeldoorn6176 5 hatched
@@Chris-sd8mk are those owls doing good?
Ahhh mine is sitting on 6 it’s her first time I hope things go well

Beautiful owl! Is it possible to train an owl for rescue operations (e.g. locate someone lost in the woods at night)?
Hey just curious what is lily's full waight and what does she fly at thanks
Great that you point out what's best for the owl, most people wouldn't even think of half the danger they could be putting the bird into. 👍
Sangat indah saat burung tersebut terbang mengelilingimu

So after watching this video. What bird of prey would you say is best for a beginner? Cheers
Does this Guy have his own UA-cam channel? His knowledge is amazing. Need more guidance from this Guy.
Yes, DAVE SHARPE Nature Boy

Hai, do u have the formula to calculate how much to feed an Owl in a day?
What they eat
I have one greedy little bugger eats 3 chicks a day. ,5 weeks old. Love it though. Imprinted and ringed.
How do you get a burrowing owl, aren't they endangered, in the intro with the woman she holds a burrowing owl
i believe its a falconry centre business, not a personal ownership - kinda like a zoo i guess if that helps
That glove is a bit dramatic though... Like you're working with a 10lb golden eagle. That barn owl weighs about as much as your cell phone. My rescue owl would perch gently on my index finger.
i have an owl nest in my farm 1 week old 3 chicks hatched
Does your barn owls also hover? Can u maybe explain how to teach them this! :p i think my barnowls are to free hahha they wont learn it anymore xD
Sometimes they do... we’ll see what we can do for you!
