All of kendrick’s music videos are exquisitely directed, i think mostly from the same director. Kendrick is a top class artist. He actually is the first rapper to receive a pulitzer prize for his music. Truly one of a kind. His albums are so detailed its awe inspiring.
Had no idea he won a pulitzer, wow! Thanks Joe.
@@TwoOldDudes what about ball if I want to by dababy? 🤞

@@trevorreese2002 I've just shed a tear of joy.
That smile at the end let's you know…
He gon' be alright.
God bless

I really like how the guy on the left gives a lot of appreciation for the penmanship, where the guy on the right leans more into the artistry, and it really comes together for a fuller appreciation of everything that this track is
Thanks Aidan!
ua-cam.com/video/kJmGqdG95S4/v-deo.html it’s music btw
One dude is visual the other is contextual
yall will ball your brains out when you hear the whole "to pimp a butterfly" album, the fusion of jazz is crazy, "alright" was just a little scoop of it
Sounds awesome, thanks for the suggestion!
His song “how much a dollar cost” is an absolute must listen. It really demonstrates how good of a storyteller he is.
Hope they see this
samidot is the better storytelling track to me tbh
This is the one they gotta do !!!
i been saying this too!!!
@@usrnam8795 u > samidot
Kendrick Lamar was actually the one who inducted N.W.A. into the Rock n Roll hall of fame so that's CRAZY how you compared them without knowing any background lol
Oh cool! Thanks for the info and for watching.
Another Dr. Dre protege. Hip hop’s Quincy Jones! Love your channel.
Kendrick Lamar is the first rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize. He's not just great, he is already a living legend
“It’s like poetry” to pimp a butterfly, the album the song is from, is actually an album created from a poem he wrote where either every line or stanza of the poem was captured with a song on the album. So it is poetry.
A poem to Pac.
You got a link to where he talks about that? That’s fuckin awesome
7:37 this insight about the cops carrying the car feels so spot on. I didn’t even think about that until now, but I can almost guarantee that’s what he was going for. Incredible imagery, incredibly deep messages, Kendrick is unbelievably talented, thank you guys for another amazing video
As always, thank you for watching Ben!

I think it might also be a play on pallbearers carrying a coffin. The police are carrying the coffin of the people they kill, literally.

10:58, anytime you guys want more of this jazzy incredible music, the whole album (To Pimp A Butterfly, also called TPAB) is like this. Down the road, I would love for you guys to react to “i” off of this album, but truly every song off that album is worthy of a review! The Blacker the Berry is also an incredibly track off the album, maybe my favorite
King Kunta is an incredible track as well. The whole album is worth checking out as you said.
King kunta
@@KobiFC I love love, love king kunta, and its not even my favorite track or album
Fun fact: it was originally tought to be called To Pimp a Catepillar for it becoming TPAC (2pac obviously). But butterfly just sounds more poetic and works better in the whole context.
ua-cam.com/video/kJmGqdG95S4/v-deo.html it’s music btw
Dudes, I’m a 66 year old white guy, living in Berkshire, England 👍. Not the audience for this I’m sure 😊 but it’s a great track, great video, and Kendrick’s halftime super bowl presentation was incredible too! 😎
LOOK AT YOUUUU NOTICING THE SLAVES LIFTING KINGS ❤😂 omg I loveee both your takes on this video
The first time I heard this song I felt one of my most euphoric feelings of blackness.
Same... And I'm not even an American, just black Caribbean
Fun Fact: Those horns that you’re loving in that song (and on that whole album really) are by this amazing saxophonist by the name of Kamasi Washington. Kendrick plays a snippet of a new song in the Not Like Us video where he mentions that same artist.❤
"Woke up lookin' for the broccoli
Hot key, keep a horn on me that Kamasi"
Y’all reviewed this objectively and honest. Most importantly you LISTENED to his message. 💯🙏 much respect
Thanks Drey! We appreciate the comment.
Y’all gotta do the whole To Pimp a Butterfly album by Kendrick Lamar
Up till now we've not done albums but that might be our first choice if we do. Thanks for suggesting!
@@TwoOldDudes you guys are awesome
@@TwoOldDudes Please do, you won't regret it
@@TwoOldDudes please do!
This album is the hip hop equivalent of dark side of the moon by Pink Floyd. Each song and sound has its purpose. The whole story paints a picture
You guys obviously “get it “. Kendrick is top three on most people “Best rappers that are still active” category. He’s a beast on EVERY level.
10:48 this guy on the right looks like hes having the craziest lsd trip of his life
Hilarious!
My favorite rap artist by far. Started listening in college with “Money Trees” and thought he was just another rapper that was good during a party. I was very wrong. Listening to his three big albums GKMC, Pimp a Butterfly, and DAMN. in their entirety is really an experience that’s great for multiple listens. Pimp really spoke to me it was released a few months after Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson and as a white guy it was interesting because the album was clearly written for black people all the messages and themes, yet I never felt excluded. Like I fully understood what he was going for and could appreciate the art even from an outside perspective. And then simply musically Pimps samples were just out of this world and I loved the musical themes of the album. Great pick you guys!
TPAB
One thing about Tpab that makes it resonate is the fact that Kendrick isn't trying to teach anyone. It's completely personal and for that reason I think you just need to be human whereas some artists will preach/teach
He has been great since he dropped. Section 80 is overlooked because his catalog is so amazing. Section 80 could have been an award winning album itself.
I know S80 isnt his first album but its his first conceptual project.
My personal fav is the Untitled album. A a masterpiece just like TPAB, even though it was just TPAB leftovers. I connect even more so with those songs on a personal level. Untitled 3, my fav song of his.
you should listen to HUMBLE. its really good
Im as old as Kendrick and ik that he is the next generations legend in the world of music.
8:10 “he’s finding his power in that”, I love that
“actually I thought Kendrick Lamar sounded like a character name from Blazing Saddles” - but of course you were thinking of Hedy Lamarr. Er, I mean Hedley. Hedley Lamarr. Ah, whatever, he lived in 1863 - he’ll be able to sue her.
*If you guys decide to go down that Kendrick Lamar rabbit hole it's going to be a beautiful experience he's truly one of the greatest rapper.*
Bruh…
your guys channel has gotta blow up soon your reactions are so pure and fun to watch
Thanks Yagurt! We appreciate the support!
Damn, the Jazz fusion is so nice and his rap style is so giving me early rap vibes when rappers were rapping about their actual life experiences. This is ART. Nice.
yall should lissten to the whole album.
Seein these dudes hear this message, understand and love it and everything makes me wanna tear up idk
The ability of you guys to take what you know about music and pull what you were getting from a rap song and it still be on par with what the artist is trying to convey is very impressive… I love these reactions because they are so pure and genuine and I can tell you two really love music
All of "To Pimp A Butterfly" from which this song comes from is a masterpiece of our times!!! Even David Bowie himself was influenced by this album while making his last album Black Star!
Bowie itself is a legend. Saying he was influenced by TPAB is a big W for Kendrick
wait you mean the David Bowie??
I'm like you guys, lol, and I just discovered Kendrick's music. I'm obsessed.
To Pimp A Butterfly is widely considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Please listen from start to finish, I think you will absolutely love it, and it is a must listen for any music enjoyer
Delightful work gentleman, I’m so glad you got a chance to experience this. Timeless music
"A little apocalyptic" this is real shit thats happens right now.
"How Much A Dollar Cost" is amazing. Also, "Sing About Me".
I think you would enjoy both a lot
Hi Michael Sandoval. Thanks for the suggestion!
Here after the beef! This man is a genius! You gotta listen to Meet the Grahams! 🤯🔥🔥🔥
Ayeeeeee! ❤️this was the best reaction.
DAMN by Kendrick Lamar was the first non-classical or jazz album to win a Pulitzer Prize for Music.
Just discovered these guys, and the genuine admiration and enjoyment they expressed was very cool. I also think this is one of the most powerful rap songs I've ever heard, which is to say, one of the most powerful songs period. Transcendent, hopeful, anguished, everything really.
A few song options if you feel;
(Recent/new song) Tyler the Creator - Sorry, not sorry
Joyner Lucas - I’m not racist
Eminem - Mockingbird
Hopsin - I’ll mind of Hopsin 7
Post Malone - I fall apart
Eminem - When I’m gone
If System of a down were from India
Lil Dicky - Pillow Talk
Kendrick is a Pulitzer Prize winner❤
One of the best breakdowns of a video I've seen.Great reaction.
Pharell Williams I know produced this song, but I’m not entirely sure if he produced the entire album. The jazzy incorporation is genius. You can tell it’s produced by Pharell when you hear the 1-2-3-4 at the start
He only did alright- sounwave did the 808s tho
What an amazing reaction. Made my day
Thank you so much!
I subscribed to this channel based on this insightful reaction which is my first time viewing. What I've learned being over 35 is the word "old" should be synonymous with the word "wise". The ability to accept art and recognize the realness in it and have the ability to balance what it is and what it is not, earns Two Old Dudes a high position in life and morality in my personal opinion. Im a black man that lived in Compton when Kendrick came up and I welcome all perspectives when it comes to respecting human art...period.
Thank you so much Smitty! We don’t think we deserve such high praise but we greatly appreciate it. Music is an amazing form of art that can be experienced on many levels. So we do our best to be open to those experiences and learning from them. It means a lot to us when people comment, share their thoughts, and help us learn more. So thank you. And thanks for subbing!
Man im so glad yall are checking out kendrick, I definitely need more reactions of him!
I'm so glad you got a taste of my generations best rap artist, Kendrick Lamar is literally the King of Rap :)
Kendrick is definitely an artist who the albums are key for. This album to pimp a butterfly is a near perfect jazz fusion album
I mean I’d expect nothing less with collaborators like Kamasi Washington, Thundercat and Flying Lotus on this album.
You guys may want to check out the lyric versions of his songs too because sometimes he raps fast, but Kendrick is brilliant!!
I can definitely appreciate this song for the video and way he switches his style sometimes through the song
Incredibly talented to use his voice styles to tell a story. We reacted to the entire album (it's on our patreon) and now we're spoiled.😂
In this album he is always talking to Tupac.
His album to pimp a butterfly is one of the greatest ALBUMS ever made. Lots of jazz influence in the production
Hey guys, just wanted to leave a comment and say I appreciate your perspective here. Obviously my generation loves Kendrick, but I realize your generation probably doesn’t know who he is or would normally be willing to listen. I appreciate the fact that you both approached this with an open mind and listened from an artistic context and wanted to understand the video/song and lyrics. My Dad always used to listen to the music I listened to with me sometimes. As a musician, whatever it was we listened to, he would always say “that’s good shit…” if he liked it or found it interesting. I always loved that he would say that. I say all of that to say that you guys seem decent and open to good music, no matter the context/genre. Keep doing this stuff and these videos. Set an example for other folks that a broad perspective is healthy.
Subscribed. Your appreciation is an art!
To Pimp A Butterfly is a perfect album, critically ranked amongst one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. You guys should also check out Good Kid Maad City and DAMN (two other great Kendrick albums)
Kendrick’s song “duckworth” is crazy. It’s a true story about his father and TOP Dog - it’s one of my favorites
For two old non-street guys 😊, I feel you got the essence of the song and video. Good listening, good analysis!
You guys have GOT to see the video for Kendrick's track The Heart Part 5. It's truly incredible. And the Marvin Gaye sample they use for the track is superb.
Damn, they got it!! Respect.
Thanks Isaac!
Some more context on this song: it was used as almost an anthem during some black lives matter protests, as a very uplifting, encouraging and inspiring song. 'Kendrick's How Much a Dollar Cost?' tells a great story too!
You gotta do a video on Frank Ocean. Specifically the song “Nights”. He, along with Kendrick, had an incredible influence on me and I believe just like Kendrick, frank ocean is a song writer for the ages. These guys are my generations versions of the classic rock all stars imo and we’ll be listening to them for years to come.
This song pretty much became this generation’s "We Shall Overcome". How that song was used during the Civil Rights Movement, "Alright" has been used for the Black Lives Matter movement & the fight against police brutality.
Correct
I live in the Netherlands and its my anthem in hardships!❤
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed stumbling upon this video. Alright is so dear to my heart. Seeing you two hear it for the first time was something special.
I appreciate this video. Kendrick Lamar's Kush and Corinthians from his Section 80 album is a beautiful track as well!
I love this reaction so much! KING KENDRICK is one of theeeee best lyricists of ALL TIME
Congratulations on getting the message of this song right off the bat. Some people didnt.
such a good song, another song from kendrick lamar that i would reccomend is The Blacker The Berry, it was the first or second single from his album To Pimp A Butterfly
I’m so glad all these video are available. Kendrick is so amazing as an artist. I had no idea. ❤
This is a masterpiece that keeps on giving the more you listen to it. It was so great to see your reactions and appreciation from such mature and knowledgeable perspectives. I'm now fan of you guys fanning!
