What is your favorite Kendrick song of all time?
“How much a dollar cost” a song only that man could make
Best Kendrick song for me is Sing about me, I’m dying if thirst. One of the best storytelling songs I’ve heard
Sing about me, im dying of thirst is 100% his best
art of peer pressure
Money Trees is just a different beast, one of the best songs of all time, and my joint favourite along side Wesley's Theory
Thundercat is this generations George Clinton. His bass playing and vocal harmonies are totally unique to him and every song and artist he collabs with is fire. And Kendrick's delivery and flow match so well.
Saw him open up for Khruangbin last year. His trio live was off the chain
@@moldyjames439khruangbin is amazing, i never hear anyone talk about them
@@javiartem they’ve become one of my favorites. Such a tight band
You mean bootsy collins
He also gave Kendrick some credit and said he was 'kneaded' for ideas in a way he's never been before
did not expect a kendrick lamar reaction but i’m all here for it! love the versatility in the channel
When you go back through the lyrics it's so incredible. His use of a personified Uncle Sam character essentially being a Faustian devil luring and tempting Kendrick and other folks in similar positions and using that as a metaphor for the predatory nature of not just the record industry but the nation as a whole is just too good.
That whole album is full of such deep meanings and clever metaphors on top of these beautiful funky and jazz style beats. It’s gotta be one of the best albums ever
Not only that, but many of these lines set up themes for other songs throughout the rest of the album. It’s brilliant
TPAB is one of the best albums ever made, a true musical gem
tpab is best album ever that sounds more right ngl
@@jopakidara1563ok buddy thats going a bit too far, its one of the greatest sure but other genres exist too
u is right bro i have listened to the album more times than i count, literal 🔥
I've never moved so quickly
haha
shit i started rubbing my hand after clicking on this
To Pimp A Butterfly is one album i'll love to experience all over again
I really hate to say this word when it comes to music, but Kendrick Lamar is OBJECTIVELY one of the best arists in the world (mainly concerning lyrics)
probably the best rapper alive
You dont know what a musician is do you?
@@lich8103 I worded it wrong because english isn't my first language... I meant artist
@@yFarkkhe might be the best of all time fr
Up their with lupe fiasco
TAX MAN COMING! TAX MAN COMINNNNNNNG!
I appreciate you for this cuz I always thought it "Black man comin!" Lol makes way more sense
@@nickcrim6735 no worries bro. There’s a reality where you’re correct 😂
Genuinely hoping this inspires you to go through the whole album, also I like this because I’ve dissected the lyrics time and time again because this whole album is filled with conceptual ideas and black struggles to black excellence like it’s so much but now I can focus on all the instrumental things and I neeeed to see what you think of these other tracks
Most of this album was done by this group
Main vocals: Kendrick
Supporting vocals: Bilal and Anna Wise
Drums : various artists and producers, sounwave being the main one
Sax and voice box (among various other instruments): Terrace Martin
Solo sax: Kamasi Washington
Keys: Robert glasper
I forgot to mention thundercat on bass
Bruh that is such an all star team. Wish they would do another album besides the Untitled one.
@@thedopeson I know right. Check out dinner party. It’s Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder and Kamasi Washington.
that little saxophone is a cue, right away into the next interlude
That baseline played by Thundercat is unreal, you can feel it on iPhone speakers and when you hear it on a system it makes you emotional. Low end and high end at the same time!🤦🏾♂️
Dude, this is my favorite song of all time and this video just made me appreciate it even more so thank you
I’m a mortal man guy, but having this as a favorite song is bada$$
Tony out here teaching me new things about one of my favorite albums that I never even noticed before. I completely missed the droning bass during that first verse until now. Awesome analysis as always
Thundercat is on the bass. Amazing artist as well
most of the bass is done by thundercat, a really good artist and bass god if you want to listen to more
It almost sounds like a movie scene from a musical.
It still blows my mind that this lost album of the year to some throwaway pop album by Taylor Swift.
wym this won album of the year in 2015 grammys
good kid lost to macklemore in 2012
@@TalentlessHumorIt won rap album for the year, not album of the year,
Facts that is crazy!!!!!
This album is probably the best album i ever heard and im not even hip hop fan
And the fact that it’s not even considered his best by a lot of his fans shows you how good Kendrick is
man i love this. it's great to see a musical director dissect the layers that most people wouldn't even appreciate.
you should do more kendrick lamar reactions! especially on his recent album Mr Morale & The Big Steppers or on To Pimp a Butterfly.
we need the whole album!!!
if you did all of TPAB i would NOT complain, but yea Wesley's Theory is an alltime fave, SO much going on in that lmao
Never thought I’d see the day where Christian Bale reacts to Kendrick Lamar’s Wesley’s theory!
One of the most amazingly produced songs, definetely the reason i had to listen to the whole album in one sitting.
Collaboration with George Clinton and Thundercat had me. Then the drone sounds which bring me back a lot to De La Soul. And the Snoop synth feel…which is really a Parliament feel. Love this track. Love seeing others appreciate how the parts come together
Your videos have helped me learn to appreciate music on a deeper level. Another amazing video, thank you for your hard work!
one of the best songs from one of the best albums ever made. I was so excited when I saw this in my recommended lol i wasnt expecting this at all
DUCKWORTH is a must but also the story is key
Man, I love Thundercat so much.
I still listen to the majority of this album on a weekly basis and the instrumentals is the main reason, the vocals are phenomenal but the instrumentation is what makes it something I can listen to near infinitely
This song starts off with Kendrick first blowing up and wanting to splurge and spend money with his friends then realizing that financial illiteracy is what has held back black people for so long. When he says “I’ll Wesley snipes yo ass before 35” he is speaking from the perspective of Uncle Sam. Wesley snipes got imprisoned for tax evasion that’s why it’s called Wesley’s theory. It’s a song that shows his growth in realizing that his people never learned how to maintain and keep thier new found wealth.
no... kendrick isnt blaming Black people for being "financially illiterate."
he's using Uncle Sam as a personification of capitalism, a system that encourages everyone to make and spend as much money as possible, and since capitalism is intertwined with white supremacy due to the context of its creation, Black people in america are encouraged to spend as much money as possible, without being granted the OPPORTUNITIES to make money. a Black person in america could have a masters degree worth of knowledge of finance, but if they have no money to begin with, then they can't use it to make any more.
he perfectly uses wesley snipes as an example of this, because evading taxes is something all the richest people in america do, making it the "financially literate" thing to do. but when wesley does it he gets caught, because just like on the streets, the cops always watch what a Black person is doing 9 times harder than a white person. he is showing that "financial literacy" means nothing to a Black person because the system is rigged against them to begin with.
@@sfbeht7n459 it's basically about america's racial profiling, which sometimes leads to institutional or systemic racism. because of black people's past, they have this sort of defense mechanism to buy more stuff to feel more "powerful," in control, or more accepted. "uncle sam" (symbolic idea of america's capitalism) knows this and targets the black audience to, of course, earn more profit. because of this thriving procedure, uncle sam often resorts to institutional racism, denying black people economic opportunities, education (including financial literacy), healthcare, etc., but offers them with ideas to spend more money that will eventually bite black people back in the future for uncle sam to gain more profit for himself. pretty important topic and i can suggest a few of kanye's songs (these are super good) that talk about racial profiling and systemic racism as well: never let me down and all falls down (racial profiling), spaceship and jesus walks (systemic/institutional racism)
@@sfbeht7n459a pretty great analysis, but Weasley Snipes wasn’t really trying to be financially literate when he went to jail. Unlike how most corporations/rich rich people use “tax codes and other laws” to bypass paying taxes, Snipes simply refused to file his taxes at all. I say blame his advisor really, say what you want about “sovereign citizens” but if one agency isn’t to be messed with, it’s the IRS.
im really REALLY down for some more kendrick reaction man thank you for this
This is my first time watching one of your vids even though I've been subscribed for a min, maybe bc I knew you'd be dope! As an aspiring MC, but a true music lover, this is amazing to watch. Since you have a musicians ear, it def helps me understand the methods the music utilizes to help create the theme and message of the art.
Great Content! Now time to binge watch your older videos!
I appreciate that!
What a wonderful song (and album) for a director.
The beats on this album are so good that it feels like they shouldnt be possible to make.
What a frickin album.
This was a pleasant surprise. Gotta admit, I probably never would have come across these funky beats if not for this video.
My favorite Kendrick song for sure
My favorite kendrick song! Glad you did this one
Thank you for dissecting the instrumental! I feel like there is so much more you wanted to say but didn't get around to it. I've listened to this song maybe 100 times+ and you helped me notice some incredible details in the "trenches" Great video!
YESSS KENDRICK IS THE GOAT
He always has such funky beats.
Never thought you would do stuff like this, this video is gonna be awesome
So much going on. So familiar but at same time, so refreshing. Chaotic harmony. Dazzling and spinning my mind. Tickling my eardrums. Great.
Im so glad UA-cam added the “most replayed” graph to their videos.
Really cool idea. I like that you use it as well.
TPAB’s production on the entire album is legendary. There is so much going on in this song and every second is amazing.
From Brazil 🇧🇷 I followed it with subtitles, but I understand most of the English. I really liked how you respect music, you repeat moments with a very analytical emphasis! I liked it, foreign subscriber
NEED more kendrick videos man this is great
Kendrick is genius
great reaction 🙌🏾
13:48 That part is so cool, cuz he says "Before you cross my mind" and the audio feels like it crosses your mind! 10/10
I appreciate the breakdown! Go deep, Tony!!
i wasnt expecting you to listen to my favorite artist but I enjoy none the less
I like the part that goes "look both ways before you cross my mind" while the vocal pans left to right. (crossing my mind 😮)
love it!
Absolute banger of a video
More of this album if you can !
oh damn I remember that banger. Good times.
Essa música é uma das melhores do álbum, e esse álbum é sem discussão um dos melhores do kendrick.
um dos?
This is his best
This song is amazing one of my fav from Kendrick👍👍👍
Haha you and Mike Palmisano dropped reactions to this around the same time, two of my favorite musicians on UA-cam. Cool to see when things coincidentally sync up like this 😂
TPAB YESSSSS
QUEEEE gracias por reaccionar a uno de mis artistas favoritos I LOVE YOUU
Bro this is objectively like a masterpiece
Yes!!! Kendrick my fav music artist oat !
Tax Man comin'!
Your mic audio quality is so silky smooth!
Best rap intro track of all time.
I agree
YESSSSS
in my opinion this song is the greatest song on god's planet earth, no greatest hiphop song, not greatest rap song, just the greatest song to ever be made by a human
Even if you’ve probably heard it, I would like to see a reaction on PRIDE by Kendrick, the instrumentals and the Vocals are a thing of beauty in that song
The reason things shift so much midway through the song is because the person rapping switches from Kendrick to the main antagonist of the album which is Uncle Sam/Lucy. So it’s rapped in a different cadence.
Greatest Rapper of all time period no contest, easy rebuttal to end any disagreement, he has a Pulitzer Prize for his writing in Damn. The only rapper to do that period, end of discussion
What are your favorite Kendrick albums in order of least to most?
Yo whats up tony! this Javon from the Lincoln drumline camp. i randomly found your youtube channel on my recommended. what a coincidence
Hey what's good!? How's practice going
@@DrumRollTonyReacts I don't really practice as much as I should tbh lol
Props to flylo
When he ends the song saying “tax be coming, tax be coming” it’s a nod to uncle Luke because he said “cap de comin cap de comin” in his biggest hit. First verse he’s talking from the perspective of a black man from the hood that’s finally gotten rich, The last verse he’s speaking as Uncle Sam reminding him that there’s a dark side to being financially illiterate.
You should listen back to the lyrics knowing this and it will add to the song experience. It may be difficult to understand some references because it’s hood slang but you’ll hear what I’m saying as the song progresses.
Sorry to be that guy but its “tax man coming”
Also yk what’s really cool, like he talks about in this video. When from the perspective of Uncle Sam he’s more fixed to the best and methodical to represent the fake and almost robotic and soulless nature of Uncle Sam but when it is the black man speaking it’s more free and off beat like a butterfly.
i recommend the full album
i need a death grips reaction!! would love to hear your analysis of one of their songs
Hope you react to some jpegmafia tracks one day
Full album in one go is necessary, at least on your own.
I know Thundercat’s wrists must be this close 🤏🏼 to falling off.
Gotta check out “For your sorrows” by big boi from outkast with George Clinton. I feel like it would be right up your alley.
*subs*
Prince is clapping, Andre2000 is turning the table and Parliament/ Funkadelics are landing their spaceship.
Just realized you can hear them whispering "tax man coming"
HOLY
i remember i was conflicted
thundercat 🥵🥵 just how
5:45 was the grinding of your rings intentional or did you just make that motion without thinking about that. idk why i focused enough on that to make a comment i just liked it haha
Is ok the first time I heard this song I repeat the beginning 6times😂😂please react to this album and Good Kid maad city album
very unexpected reaction
man i'd love to hear that part at 8:11 properly but sadly only have one functional ear lol
Have you ever tried bone conduction headphones?
do you have any recommendations to find songs in that style ?
why you look so much like a young version of present silvester stalone.
Love the reaction btw
Hats off to the homie Thundercat. He took us to school that whole album.
Terrance Martin is the genius that put it all together.
OMG, hace 15s
shootout to the legendary bassist Thundercat, he's the one responsible on why TPAB being the way it is!
Day two of asking for "watashi igai watashi ja nai no" reaction/breakdown
