This song is keeping me together at the moment. Lost my brother 3 years ago. Then my mom, a week after. My 3 turtles, who were my mom's and had them since I was a kid (I'm 28 now) have all passed away. My wife left me a few months ago and by default, lost the daughter that I fathered 6 years. My cat whom I had since he was kitten, back in 8th grade has passed away. Then came across this beautifully done cover. Both yours and the original are on loop. Thank you.
Kevin, I am really sorry to hear about all you are going through. That is quite a lot to deal with. I empathize greatly with your losses. I lost my mother and one of my best friends within a few weeks of one another, so I feel your pain. Get our grieve on, Kevin. I'm glad to hear this song is helping you with this process. Take care of yourself. Peter
I'm from Brazil. Two years ago I've lost my mom and sometimes I coming back here to listen this perfect cover from one of my favorites songs that reminds me of my mommy. How can a song touch our feelings this way ? Thank you a lot for this perfection.
I'm very sorry for your loss, Joe. I lost my mother in 2022 as well. Gert (the singer) also lost his mother. This song is quite touching on many levels. Thank you for watching and for the kind remarks. 🙏
Cara! . Tocava nos programas de surf como Realce! Realce abertura de 1988 toca Girl afraid!
Btw, I listened to a few of your tracks and enjoyed them. Funny, we both seemingly had a similar journey with regards to our home recording process. I also had the same Tascam 4-track, which is what I started on. For many years, I only recorded to see how guitar parts worked together and to make glorified demos, so-to-speak. My next recorder was the Boss BR-8, which was a great tool at the time. I then got a Boss BR-1600. And funny enough, I now use a Zoom R16 as my main recorder because I don't like recording on a computer. I do, however, mix on a computer and I user Reaper as my DAW. Cheers!
Thanks Peter for taking the time to listen to some of my songs. It does seem like we’ve followed a similar recording path. I’m now going through all your videos gradually 😊 Your guitar playing skills are amazing! Cheers!
Thanks much, Trent. Yeah, Gert did a wonderful job with the vocal, as usual. I feel very fortunate to have met Gert via my youtube channel late last year by chance. Since we've met, we have done quite a lot of collaborations. Really swell feller, that Gert is. And what can be said for Wally? He did an amazing job on the bass as well. Cheers!

It’s always been one of my favorites as well. And yes, the rain does add to the overall sound. I always try to put those little sound effects in all of the covers. I recall scouring UA-cam for just the right rain sound. Haha. Thanks for tuning-in.
Thanks so much for the kind remark! I am rather humbled by your comment. I certainly can't do it alone, and Gert (vocals) and Wally (bass) really did an amazing job. I am rather fortunate to be able to work with both of them. It's an absolutely beautiful composition, and one that really showcases Andy Rourke's musicality, which is why we chose this as our tribute to him (RIP, Andy Rourke). Thanks much for taking the time to watch/listen. Most appreciated.
I got choked up listening to this. I got to meet Andy when he’d just left the Smiths, and he was very gracious to me as a fan. He’s sorely missed. Lovely version, tastefully done.
Oh, thank you very kindly. I never got to meet Andy, but I always had a healthy respect or his musicality. He was a one-off, and will be sadly missed. Thanks for taking the time to watch/listen.
So good, especially when you can see the different bass and guitar parts separately but simultaneously. An epic version of one of their greatest songs!
Thanks so much, Nick. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and thanks for the kind comments. It is such a beautiful composition. Andy's part in this is so incredible and Wally, who played bass, did a great job in his honor, if you ask me.
Thanks much, Eric. Do you happen to know Gert Van De Voorde? Gert is a swell feller and I've greatly enjoyed collaborating with him. Something that happened by chance, but I'm glad I met him. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind comment, Bobby. Indeed, it is a very understated, yet incredibly beautiful, composition/arrangement. I've always found it to be a rather 'special' song, and Andy's contribution is simply wonderful. RIP, Andy!
I'll never forget driving home one day a few years ago and turning into rain (Florida is weird) right as the rain started in this song. An absolutely perfect moment. This song is gorgeous and you guys did an awesome job covering it 🥰
Thank so so much for the very kind remark. I've always felt this song was/is quite a beautiful composition. Magical, in many ways. And yes, that does sound like a 'perfect' moment you had. Thanks for sharing that story, and thank for taking the time to watch/listen.
Thanks very much. A very beautiful song, indeed. Andy’s incredible musicality is such a big part of what makes the song so wonderful. RIP, Andy Rourke. Thanks for watching.
Excelente interpretación como siempre. Lamentablemente sea un tributo póstumo para un bajista extraordinario, que tal vez no tiene el sitial que le corresponde. Gran trabajo
Thanks so much for the kind remark. An absolute gem, that song is. Andy's wonderful musicality on full display on it as well, so it seemed a fitting tribute. Thanks for watching.
I concur. It also seemed fitting in certain ways. I suppose I can do another one in his honor that is perhaps more uplifting. Thanks for tuning-in Gonzax. I recognize your handle/name and appreciate you always taking the time to watch/listen.
@@welldonep You're very welcome, the pleasure is all mine, I love your covers. As for the song, I think it is actually perfect, it has a fantastic and very prominent bass on it, it is a perfect track for a tribute to Andy's talent. It's also one of my favorite songs ever and strange as it may sound, even with their most depressing songs, The Smiths always made me feel better, actually even more with those 'sad' tracks, if it makes any sense so perfect choice and you all really nailed it, rain effects and all, every detail is there.
I know what you mean. Music/songs are like a good friend. I find that fascinating. And like a good friend, it’s like someone is listening … lending and ear, if you will. So the mutual respect of listening to one another is part of the equation. I promise that I’m not trying to get cosmic or philosophical in any regard. In short, yeah, I have always loved a certain melancholy or sadness in music. It actually has a way of making me feel better.

@@carlosrecuerdaruiz2948 right there with you. I have never considered myself a true lead singer. I occasionally find a song I can put over relatively well, but Gert is quite a good singer, so I’m fortunate to be able to work with him. And Wally is also a great bass player. Thanks for tuning-in.

@@carlosrecuerdaruiz2948 No need to apologize. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I am not offended by opinions in the slightest. I agree, I find singing very difficult in general. I tend to find it harder to do in the studio and/or on recordings than live for whatever reason, assuming I have decent monitors when singing live. But I've gone back and forth between wanting to 'try' to be a decent lead singer and I just don't believe I have what it takes despite loving to sing. It is super difficult, as you mentioned, and personally, I think Gert did a great job on this, particularly considering everything mentioned above.
