The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Is The Ultimate Midsize Factory Built Off-Road Truck

  • The midsize truck segment continues to heat up and it begins with the redesign of the 2023 #GMCCanyon and Chevrolet Colorado. The #CanyonAT4X brings even more off-road capability along with the luxurious of the #CanyonDenali into the mix. The #AT4X also introduces an even more stout version for 2024 called the #CanyonAT4XAEV and it will be GMC's answer to the #RangerRaptor and #TacomaTRDPro.

Mid-Sized trucks have never been much better on gas for some odd reason, considering they’re lighter and have smaller displacement engines.
I had a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab with a 6” lift and larger tires, it got roughly 14mpg. A couple years later, I bought a 2017 Toyota Tacoma with a 2” lift to go alongside the Silverado to use when pulling lighter loads - and it only got 16mpg!
When comparing a 3/4 ton full-size truck with a 6.0L V8 to a mid-sized truck with a 3.5L V6, it should have done much better than 2mpg extra, at least in my opinion.
In todays’ world, I see the prices for these mid-sized pickups with 4-cylinder engines getting the same economy as V6s, on top of that, they cost as much as my fully loaded, full-size, heavy duty truck did back in 2015! It’s absolutely insane - I wouldn’t be surprised if the mid-sized truck market ends up dissolving, it’s almost smarter to just get a larger truck with a larger engine, more interior and bed room, and more capability for a few thousand more!
There used to be a clear price difference between the mid-size and full-size pickup class, but now, that margin is getting smaller and smaller.

It has high ground clearance and big tires. All will affect fuel economy. Also, downsizing engines is mostly for getting better emissions.

The average person doesn’t need a Raptor, TRX, or TRD Pro either but they’re available for the buyers who want all the bells and whistles, some even in their *midsize* trucks. I’m not sure how so many of y’all never comprehended the concept of trim levels. The people who don’t wanna spend $65k on a midsize will not drive off in a Bison AEV Colorado. The folks that want everything and with their warranty intact are going to pay MSRP. People who work hard and want to treat themselves to a brand new truck don’t care to hear you telling them your 3rd gen Taco is all they really need. Toyota is robbing folks over there at the prices of their trucks right now so this is even more hilarious coming from you.

@@user-qg2tl3jk9z I don't care how "good" they are, which is objectively debatable. No midsize truck should cost over $45k, no matter what 'features' they add to it. The fact is, all the extra weigh of these extreme packages dramatically reduces the hauling and towing capability of the truck. It becomes nothing more than a trophy that you can take on a trail at that point.

I got this truck about 3 months ago. So far, very happy with it. Yes, it's pricey... but so is every other midsize in the class. It's not like the new Toyota coming out in spring is going to be really cheaper. The only negative is the gas mileage. You also lose a little bit of tow due to the off road suspension. The styling is exceptional. They got the "look" right, inside and out. I wish ALL midsize trucks worked on storage more. I would say it's about the same there. The engine is PLENTY strong in this size truck. If I could have waited, I would have considered the Toyo Hybrid coming out... but that price is even higher which offsets the mileage gains... So I might be right back here. Would I buy it again? yes

$60k for a midsized pickup? I’m not paying $60k for a full sized pickup. Regardless of wether they’ve changed the definition, we’ve been in a recession for two years. We’re nearing the point that even those willing to pay ridiculous prices for automobiles just won’t be able to. Automakers, particularly American automakers, need to fail. They’ve earned it.

For the money you’re spending and being a gmc you can definitely see where they went cheap and cut cost. The AT4 and X should be optioned with those grab handles I simply don’t understand why you don’t even option that so dumb.

    First off they’re depreciating liabilities.
The warranty and dependability should increase with the price.
The style of the truck is a home run minus a few exceptions.
Bring back the manual headlight switch. Get rid of the white in the interior on the AT4X maybe use some carbon fiber. How about a 6 foot bed?
2.7 L turbo has good specs but how about couple options?
And what’s up with the plastic oil pan? Are you kidding me?
I test drove one last weekend.
Address these concerns, GM and you’ll have a winner guaranteed .
These issues are addressed on the 2025 model this fall I will be buying one

I'd rather buy a full size if I'm gonna pay $58,000, that's too much for a midsized pickup in my opinion. As for these type of numbers for mpg, might as well buy a full size with a v8 or buy the ecoboost f150.
