- The #LexusRX has consistently been the best-seling luxury SUV in America for decades and this all-new generation introduced a bunch of big changes to the #RX family. Including the first ever #RXPHEV called the #LexusRX450h + with the plug badge meaning it gets the same powertrain from the Lexus NX PHEV. This model is also available in the fully loaded Luxury trim and it provides drivers with the best of both gas and fully electric.

Hey guys! Happy Saturday! With so many models to choose from, picking the right Lexus RX for you can always be a challenge. But after spending a week with the first-ever RX Plug-In Hybrid, this model seems to strike the best balance of power and fuel efficiency. If you can swing the extra cost, this could be the better buy over the RX 350h and RX 500h. Which powertrain would you choose?
The short answer is none of them 😂
The 350 is as slow as a rav4. Any rival is faster and drives a lot better for the same price if not less yet they’re not marketed as performance SUVs.
The 350h is still slow. Also why even bother with fuel economy since nobody in their right mind would say “If I want high fuel economy, I’m not gonna buy a Prius, I’ll buy a 70K luxury car.😱”? Luxury car buyers don’t care about mpg. If it did, then where’s the 50mpg x5, or 50mpg m5, or 50mpg x3m40i, or 50mpg stelvio quadrifoglio, or a 50mpg SRT, or hellcat, or c8 corvette? Exactly… they don’t exist. Why? Because at this price point, fuel economy does not matter. If you want the ultimate luxury of fuel efficiency, there’s a Prius or Camry hybrid with your name on it.
The 450h+ is still slow but way overpriced. $70k and you only get 300hp… remember that you have to go for this version to be as fast as an xt6 v6, qx60, nautilus, base ford explorer 2.3, etc. so you’re basically paying $15-$30K more just to match the performance of those rivals. A comparably priced RX to those rivals will be significantly slower
The 500h is still slow but also overpriced. $70k and the performance isn’t even better than a rav4 prime or v6 Camry yet it costs 30K more
So unlike the competition, there’s no recommendable powertrain. In the x5, the 40i is enough. You don’t even need the v8. In the aviator, the 3.0T is the only engine but it’s coincidentally a great powertrain since it excels in performance and power. Any engine is great in the gv70 or gv80 since they also excel in performance and power.
seats looks exactly like my 2014 Toyota Highlander....yawn.
$76k for this is ridiculous
$62k max for me. Couldn't go $1 over that for this. Also, top speed is a laughable 124mph and this thing weighs tons.
@@GOD999MODEexplain why you need to go over 100 mph in a family suv

What about the poor IIHS ratings for the updated tests and the low b-pillar/roof intrusion scores?
Shhhhhh... Sofyan needs these manufacturers to continue sending him cars.
I saw one up close near the other day , gorgeous ride .
Nice job Sofyan & I am ready to buy this SUV.
$76k for an RX? Insanity.
What would be cool is that Lexus in the future can offer the exact same PHEV powertrain as the TX as an option for the RX
Know some getting near 50 miles of EV range which is pretty good
But do you really care about that at this price point? You’re telling me you can afford to spend 70 or 80k but you can’t afford the fuel economy?😂
Nori Green is 🔥 😍
Does this rx come in the executive package like the last gen rx, it came with rear tv screens and remotes (you can hook up an Xbox with it) want to know if this is still a thing for the rx or is it straight up gone
1:38 This is the point where I mentally checked out. $77K for a 4 cylinder with 304 horsepower and only 36/33mpg. LEXUS, what you smoking bruh?
No suv on the market has 35 mpg. Most suvs are 14-23mpg.
@@troytruong8246 but does that even matter at this point?
The folks buying this Lexus don’t care about specs or know what a cylinder is. They buy this car to never worry about opening the hood. Not every SUV has to be a performance bmw X5 M with bonkers 800 hp😂😂
@@ViciousJackal16 a Lincoln aviator isn’t a performance suv. It has a very soft air suspension. And it has 400hp. But regardless the aviator still out handles, out performs, and outrides better than any RX including the F Performance model.

I’m still puzzled as to what’s better for the average person who does occasional long trips but mostly suburban driving. The 450 h+ or the 500 h f sport. The F sport does have rear wheel steer and a more powerful package. The 450 gives one optionality for choosing hybrid or EV only. Hmmm the classic hybrid conundrum.
The base RX should have 304 hp. Last gen BASE RX had 295 HP.
Lexus’ grill always reminds me of a Xenomorph

This should have the same set up as the TX 550h+! 18:10 Lexus has been doing that since before Genesis was even a thought.
It doesn’t make a difference. The Tx phev is still slow but over $80k
@@naveenthemachine I love your obsession with Toyota and Lexus🤣🤣 as if your negative comments affects them. Grow tf up
@@jxmar_what I point out is facts. Which is clearly something you can’t seem to fathom. The tx550h is already very slow for the price tag. In the RX it wouldn’t be much faster. In fact it would still be slower than the xc60 xc90 phev but be even more expensive
It’s okay if you want to laugh but you aren’t even providing actual evidence of how or why something is better in detail
@@naveenthemachine soo a car is better bc it’s faster and has a slightly fancier interior? You’re pathetic
@@jxmar_slightly fancier? You look at two cars: one with injection molded plastics throughout and one with a hand stitched leather dashboard, doors, airbag cover, more wood trim than you know what to do with, more metal trim, more luxury features, better tech, better comfort, better performance and better handling and a better ride, and the first thing you say is “hmm. It’s only slightly fancier”?😂 talk about your rather low standards for luxury. I bet if you took a rav4 XLE and simply swapped logos and did nothing else you’d say it’s still luxury 😂
In this case, the xc60 is not only cheaper, but also better looking outside and inside, much nicer materials, more features, better tech, more interior space, bigger trunk, much better performance and handling and a smoother ride. Thats just a fact.

It’s not good. Don’t kid yourself
The RX doesn’t stand any chance against an x5 or x3 even.

Primes are easier to spot, and I see a lot of them. One of things I really like about the NX is the colors. The Prime only comes in standard colors and I don’t really love any of them. $76k For that, Lexus or not its insane just go get a CX-90/CX-70 plugin. Toyota/Lexus are truly great cars but the used reliability or simplicity to justify their cost. The new Toyota have greatly improved in design, tech and features. But on the Lexus side they really didn't do much to distinguish them selves as the superior product.

Yeah I wouldn’t really call the RX performance oriented whatsoever. If you want performance, I think go elsewhere to other brands. It’s not slow by any means, plenty enough for the average person but if performance is what you want, you’re better off skipping most Lexus cars.
@@austin.2716 if you want performance and comfort and luxury don’t get Lexus.
@@naveenthemachine Last time I was in a Lexus RX, I found it pretty comfortable. Luxury? It was fine but nothing super luxurious, I’d call it premium as opposed to luxury. Performance? Well I already explained that before in the previous comment. If you want a good blend of all 3 (performance, comfort and luxury), then go elsewhere is what I say. But if performance isn’t too important to you, then you’ll be perfectly happy with the RX, depending on if you like the rest of the car of course. Realistically, it’s personal preference. And by the looks of things, the RX is a perfectly acceptable car because it seems to be selling pretty well. If it was garbage, everyone would see that and not buy it right? It’s not perfect but it appears that most people who are actually buying these aren’t complaining and are happy.
