I just replaced all the spark plugs after watching this video. I will say that that rear passenger side spark plug is a pain in the neck. The key is an 8 inch extension and a swivel joint. I don't think it's possible without a swivel joint. Glad to have watched this video first.

All Fords, Lincolns and Mercurys call for Motorcraft. Not Autolite. And spark plugs are supposed to be torqued down, not just "snug". A lot have crush washers and "snug" won't do anything.

15 lbs tight, you don't need a torque wrench for that.

Your welcome E Lee Kaiser and yes I do recommend using dielectric grease, there's one more thing all Ford Lincoln and so on take Motorcraft spark plugs not Autolite Spark plugs.

I have replaced 7 of mine this weekend, will do the passenger's side rear tomorrow. I did not disconnect my battery and I used a torque wrench to torque the plugs to 20 ft lbs., with the limited amount of torque you used aren't you worried about them shaking loose and stripping out the threads causing the spark plugs to fly out as these engines are known to do?

Great tutorial video, Hector. I have a 98 Town Car, and plan on doing the plugs, and possible the coils this coming summer. Question for you. Is it a good idea to put just a little anti-seize on the plug threads? Or is this not necessary at all? Thanks again for a great video!

Thank you, Yes I would recommend putting anti-seize on the plugs. Now if planning to replace the coils & plugs go to www.zzautoparts.com & get the complete set of plugs & coils a lot cheaper, I got the set for $145.00 for Lincoln. Please let me know how you did on your tune up.

Thanks hector! Your video was very informative and helpful. I will be attempting this along with replacing the ignition coil boots on my '00 town car. Would you recommend putting dielectric grease on the outside top of the boot so moisture and oil cannot get in and cause a misfire? More than one person has told me to do this because apparently these 4.6L have that problem. Thanks.

K10 Burb 4X4 Thank you for your comment I do appreciate it. At that time I did not have a torque wrench to torque the spark plugs at 7ft-lbs to 15ft-lbs but I do now, and your right it's Motorcraft spark plugs. This how I learn thanks K10 Burb 4X4.

Just curious why you didn't actually put anti-seize grease a very light coat on the spark plug threads and a little bit of silicone dielectric grease in the end of the spark plug wire and explain the benefits of these. The anti-seize keeps spark plug threads from welding to the motor from the heat, making them easier to remove the next time & the dielectric silicone grease keeps the spark plug wire connecter to the top of the spark plug from arcing if they get damaged, cut, deteriorated, or wet from water. Also, on the 4.6 and the 5.4 fords I would explain to put a "very light" coat of lubricant on the spark plug to make removing the socket easier, because getting too much oil into the spark plug well can leak down into the piston, especially if you don't tighten the spark plug enough, (specs call for 15 ft/pounds of torque But always do 20 pounds to make sure the plug doesn't loosen up and come out) causing it to misfire. another important thing when changing plugs is to blast out the dirt before during and after the process even down into the spark plug well when you have removed the spark plug with a high-powered leaf blower or compressor. I actually like to spray degreaser and high-pressure water one day before I start the process... also, you want to hold the socket very straight in place while you're breaking the plug loose so that you don't break the ceramic top of
The spark plug ... these are all important details that will make your videos better than everyone else's. give a little more details... cover all the possible bases because when people depend on you and then two months after they've done the repairs, they find out all these extra little things that you didn't tell him and they're like man I was having problem with that or yeah, there was a bunch of dirt and sand on my motor or whatever and they're not happy because they've already done the job and they feel like going back and doing it again and covering all the bases that you didn't

I have a 1998 Lincoln town car and it would sputter horribly, to the point that I thought major work needed to be done, upon inspection I noticed that whomever did the last service decided that NGK was the way to go, needless to say it was in some dire need for new ones. And I found everyone to be a breeze except the the last one on the passenger side, what a hassle, but in all thanks for the tutorial it was really helpfull.
