How To Remove & Replace Upper & Lower Control Arms On A 2002 Lincoln Tow Car Part 1.
What if plugs have been in so long they dont want to back out?
How u get the arm off
I don't see how you can remove the coil without removing the fuel rail.
Just curious why you didn't actually put anti-seize grease a very light coat on the spark plug threads and a little bit of silicone dielectric grease in the end of the spark plug wire and explain the benefits of these. The anti-seize keeps spark plug threads from welding to the motor from the heat, making them easier to remove the next time & the dielectric silicone grease keeps the spark plug wire connecter to the top of the spark plug from arcing if they get damaged, cut, deteriorated, or wet from water. Also, on the 4.6 and the 5.4 fords I would explain to put a "very light" coat of lubricant on the spark plug to make removing the socket easier, because getting too much oil into the spark plug well can leak down into the piston, especially if you don't tighten the spark plug enough, (specs call for 15 ft/pounds of torque But always do 20 pounds to make sure the plug doesn't loosen up and come out) causing it to misfire. another important thing when changing plugs is to blast out the dirt before during and after the process even down into the spark plug well when you have removed the spark plug with a high-powered leaf blower or compressor. I actually like to spray degreaser and high-pressure water one day before I start the process... also, you want to hold the socket very straight in place while you're breaking the plug loose so that you don't break the ceramic top of The spark plug ... these are all important details that will make your videos better than everyone else's. give a little more details... cover all the possible bases because when people depend on you and then two months after they've done the repairs, they find out all these extra little things that you didn't tell him and they're like man I was having problem with that or yeah, there was a bunch of dirt and sand on my motor or whatever and they're not happy because they've already done the job and they feel like going back and doing it again and covering all the bases that you didn't
@danabillingsley3304 Thank you for your comment. I think you can tell I'm not a professional mechanic, I'm learning as people like your self that let me know what I did wrong for me that is good thing. Unfortunately that Lincoln I no longer have a drunk drive slammed in to it. Again thanks.
Finally. Someone who isn't juggling the camera while doing this.
Thank you for your comment, I hope the video helped
Good video
Don't forget to take master cylinder cap off before you use clamp to back the piston off. The pressure will prevent in doing so.
Thank you Eric Jackson I think I forgot the part.
What about cylinder 7
T.y. Hector.
Ruby F. Your welcome
Ok I have an 04’ lincoln 4.6 and on the drivers side there is a guard that is over the fuel injectors and I CAN NOT get the m-f-r off… where is that part in this video???
Dude did not show please tell me if you found a solution, about to cut it off with a sawzaw
Thanks much! Very helpful
John Stuart Thank you for your comment I'm glade that the video helped, there's a one or two mistakes that was pointed out to me on the video but not bat for a beginner.
I got the cross drilled ones on ebay 225 the whole set with pads cleaner and fluid
Putting it on taking it off was eazy but putting it all back together
Man that shit kicking my ass right now lower control arm
Hi Dave Mercando thank you for your comment. Just that you know I didn't know what I was doing, just take your time and be careful.
Thanks for skipping the most important part taking rotor off
Thanks Hector, Your video helped me get my 2001 Lincoln Town Car brakes done correctly
Thank you for your comment I'm glade that the video helped.
Don't forget to put the plastic insulator on the top of the coil spring, otherwise you'll get a nasty grinding screech, when you pull up into the driveway. Also make sure you have the rubber bumpstops in place or you'll blow through shocks, faster than Stormy Daniel's.
Finally a person that knows what they're doing!!! Thanks for the awesome video.
Dawson W Thank you for your comment but I really didn't know what I was doing, I was just guessing.
Very good video and very informative. I've replaced both lowers on my '96 Grand Marquis. The problem I have had is this: there are two drain holes in the lower control arm spring pocket. One hole should be covered by the end of the spring and the other hole left uncovered. This is a challenge to get exactly right. You can align it by sight initially but the spring will try to twist a little as it gets compressed going back into the car and throw off the alignment of the spring slightly. Is this all that big of a deal or as long as you get it in the pocket is it good? One thing I did for an added measure of safety was to run a stout chain through the shock hole of the lower control arm and through the spring just in case.
4 pd sledge hammer makes the job easier
Hi Robert you are correct but I am not a mechanic I never done a jod like that before. But I used what I had at the time. And thank you for your comment.
What size are the lower co trolls arm bolts? I need new ones and the dealership. Auto parts stores, and junk yards cant tell me.
Thank you for sharing this, you saved me a couple hundred dollars👍
Your welcome
A claw hammer... the true sign of an automotive professional. No thanks.
Winter Lane Thank you for your comment, just to let you know I am not a car mechanic at all in any way shape or form. I just used what had on hand. But I did save alot of money.
Great video.Thank you so much. Kudos to you. I really appreciate your tutorial video. I need to change out the plugs on my Mom's car.
Rudolph Ramos Your welcome thank you for your comment. I'm glad the video was helpful
Amazing how many critical steps were omitted. I did the ass end on my 94 TC 10 years ago, so I needed a refresher, or so I thought, doing mine this weekend: the right way, not like this!
If you know so much why didn't you share that instead of being a whiny bitch
I did mine pads and rotors but they squeak horribly I’ve been through them twice and I have no idea what it could be. Ive greased all contact points. The only thing I can think of is the pads got too hot or something. If you know something I don’t please let me know.
Helpful, but when your body blocks sunlight we can’t see what you’re doing. Making a video outdoors or indoors always requires secondary lighting.
Cliff McSparran Thank you for your comment, I'm glad it was helpful. That was first time I ever did a video working on my car at the time. Sadly my Lincoln was hit by a drunk driver and totaled it.
Lighting is horrible
My apologies, that was my first time I did a video. And the first time I ever did a front end job too.
@@hectorespinoza6830 no problem, I appreciate the video for sure. I'm doing both sides completely. I have a broken spring at the base 6 inches from the end of the coil. Didn't know but now I don't want to replace both since the left side is already done.
That caliper was putting alot of pressure on that brake hose
Hi Anthonythesiter Thank you for your comment, yes I know that now where before I didn't. This is how I learn from my mistakes from comments like yours. Thank you, but not bad for the fisrt time.
Great video but no torque specs on plugs
Thanks for that video olease keep it on UA-cam cause i made the real of the mechanic and showed every detail. Big like!
Tobias Lenz Thank you for your comment and your welcome.
I cant believe you just left the caliper hanging like that the whole time...sooo bad for the brake line and connections...on the upper control arm I noticed you skipped over all the brake lines in the way of the nut on the right side....
Hi Adam Crown Victoria Car repair help First thanks for your comment, so that you know I'm not a mechanic that was the very first time I have ever done a jod like that. I did the video because there Where no videos of that kind. And I did it so people can see that if I can do it anyone can do it. I'm learning from people like yourself to let me know what I did wrong and I thank you for that Adam Crown Victoria Car repair help.
What do u do when a metric socket gets stuck on lincion towcar spark plug base
shove some dynamite to blow it out. problem solved.
Very nice ride Hector, I have a 2002 Grand Marquis, This was great help aswell as your older videos because i will be doing all that to my 02 soon. Just waiting on parts.
Sawzall Garage thank you for your comment, I'm also glad that the video was a help.
He's not showing about the fuel rail bullshit video
how did you manage to get the rear nuts off the upper control arms ? I cannot get anything to fit in there no matter what I try.
Zamiryi I really don't remember, unfortunately my Lincoln was totaled by a drunk driver, thankfully no one was hurt. A little side note that the first time I did video. But please let me know if you managed to complete the job.
All I see is shadow...
Pro Tip: Make sure your auto parts store has the calipers in stock before doing this job. Most stores don't have them stocked and you would be down a day at least if the caliper needs replaced.
This is true but what you want to do even before ordering your pads is check which kind of piston you have. If you have a phenolic caliper piston in the rear you need to order specific pads for it. Phenolic is a type of resin plastic...you cannot use the typical pads for steel caliper pistons. The phenolic pistons are much thicker so the circular opening in the piston is smaller. Not sure if it was an option or what but a lot of these cars have them, especially the ones that were used for police cruisers or taxis because of better durability. looks like he had a steel one in the video. I have an 02 town car and it had the phenolic rears.
Does this apply to the to the Mercury Grand Marquis are they the same suspension
Clifton Peterson To answer your question I really don't know. To be honest I just jumped right into it. But if you plan on doing the job please be extremely careful. And let me know how it went.
Well thanks for this video, I’m going to try and replace one on my Cartier, I’m 62 and need a good explanation in simple terms!
This n That with Cat Your welcome please let me know how it went.
I have a 98 Lincoln Mark 8 is the procedure the same ?? thanks Joe
Way to skip the part about changing the breaks asshole
Bosh makes the plugs to ford / lincoln specs but they are mainly mopar
Steven Ransbotton Thank you for your comment, yes you are correct but I don't know that at the time. This is how I learn from comments like yours, as you can tell I'm no master mechanic.
Hector,Thanks for the video. How long did it take to remove the control arms?
Hi LedfootC6 thank you for your comment, it took me 2 days. If you noticed I started on the right side, I said too my self I don't know what I'm doing at first.
Starts out good but no lighting
Hi Norman Wiggins Sorry about the lightning that was my first time I did a video. The next one I do I'll make sure I have plenty of lighting. Unfortunately a drunk driver totaled my car.
Hector you’re so calm and awesome, I just became a FAN....Blessings
Thank you Jose Perez I appreciate that, hopefully it was a help.
Don't stand in front of demo.Shadows were not helping. But thank you.
Guila Stocker Your welcome but that was first time doing a video hopefully it helped. Unfortunately my Lincoln was totaled by a drunk driver.
@@hectorespinoza6830 how much would it cost for a shop to do? My front end is hella squeaking :(
@@ready4death2 To answer your question I really don't know, I would call your auto shop and ask how much they charge to do the work.
Thanks a bunch! Doesn’t seem too bad. These are great cars and ride like a dream !
Your welcome donovo I'm glad the video was a help.
The way he wacked the top of the tie rod made me sick to my stomach THEY HAVE A DESIGNATED WACKING AREA BUILT RIGHT IN DUMBASS!!!
Good video, funny my Tio's name is Willie Espinoza, he's also a mechanic!👍🏾
What were all the parts you bought to do the job. So I can replace all of it
Mk Z At the end of the part 2 of my video it should have all parts I replaced including part numbers. Good luck and please let me know how you did thank you.
