    Mercury Cougar/Ford Thunderbird 1996-1997
    Ford F-Series 1995-2010
    Ford E-Series 1996-2014
    Ford Explorer 2002-2005
    Ford Mustang GT 1996-2004
    MG ZT 260 2003-2005
    Rover 75 V8 2003-2005
    Mobility Ventures MV-1 2011-2014
    To complete this job you will need the following:
    5/8 Spark Plug Socket
    Flat head screw driver
    7mm Wrench or ratchet with elbow connector
    1/2 In ratchet set with elbow
    1/2 ratchet elbow connectors

    Ry the car guy : Thank you so much for posting this video. I have a 2011 Crown Victoria. It's got a little over 100,000 miles. It's time to change the plugs. I bought some Auto-lite plugs at a parts' store today. Is that a good brand? I'll be 67 in August. I hope to be able to keep my Crown Victoria until I die. I love my car.
    Years ago, I had a 1972 Chrysler Newport Royal with the new 400 V-8. The fastest way to change most of the spark plugs was to jack up the car, take off both front tires, and go in through the wheel well. However, number seven plug was a chore. I had to have a couple of universal joints, and crawl under the car, and reach up under either the brake master cylinder, or under the power brake booster.
    Ry ,the car guy. I love this video. Now I'll have to get another torque wrench. Thank you so much for posting this video. It's been at least fifteen years since I have changed spark plugs. The last time I changed spark plugs was on my father's 1987 Dodge truck with the 225 slant-six.

    • @marckemp9955
      @marckemp9955 3 роки тому +1

      I sure hope you didn't use Autolite!!! Autolite threads are slightly different than the original Motorcraft. And as a result of the pitch being slightly different this is where plugs start blowing out. Always Motorcraft or if you want a slightly hotter plug NGK. If you want a cooler plug use Bosch.. I'm not a fan of Bosch.

    First, thank you for doing this video. There was nothing easy about either side. Apparently the socket wells fill up with crud...tree stuff, acorns, leaves, etc and even liquid. I have no idea what that liquid was, but eww. I had to get the compressor out to blow out the wells and dig it out with a probe a little. I ended up not changing passenger side rear plug as I could not get the socket to seat and blew it out numerous times. You can't see back there. I got the Motorcraft coil and plug kit. Guess what? The spiral connector on the inside of the boot did not extend far enough to the end. i could not get them to seat onto the new plug. Only one of the coils could be used because of this. UGH! Now the codes involve NOT misfire on cylinder 8, but some kind of a/c thing and a fuse. UGH UGH. Too tired to fiddle anymore with it today. Oh, and NOTHING would remove that screw on the plastic protector on top of the engine. I tried everything...must be a specific tool. Now I will have to get a mechanic to deal with it. No clue how much that will cost?

    • @SlikLizrd
      @SlikLizrd Рік тому +1

      The Official Maintenance Manual specifies FIFTEEN (15) ft/lbs.
      If some dumb-ass uses Anti-sieze AND the 20-ft/lb setting, the threads in the cylinder head could strip out.
      15 ft/lbs and NO Anti-sieze !!

    • @Thomas63r2
      @Thomas63r2 Рік тому

      @@SlikLizrd The official maintenance manual was printed before the updated torque. Let's split the difference and go for 20 ft. lbs! I don't usually use anti-seize unless the cylinder heads are new and bone dry, and I stopped using a torque wrench on spark plugs decades ago. Now I generally go 1/8 to 1/4 turn past full stop.

      Springs are better than air bags. I did the rear spring conversion for my friend and an airbag replacement for the other. The cost difference was huge for the airspring replacement as we also replaced the compressor and relay. The air bags failed in two years despite being OEM spec.

I'd replaced the compressor 3 times with used ones! The bags were bad and were $400 ea. So I decided to just replace them. Haven't driven it much because now it needs a tune up! That's what brought me to this video! I love these cars!

  • @Strikerage

    This is great!
    Had a question. My service engine light came on. I have a P0306 and P0316 code. I've seen a video where that spark plug was coated in oil. My car just came out of the shop because (dumb me) I didn't realize during an oil change that the old gasket on the previous oil filter was stuck inside, and the new filter didn't seal. Oil spewed out and across the under carriage. Simple fix, but a week later the car throws these codes, and it now gyrates at idle, reverse or forward, in a small rocking motion.
    My guess is that oil made its way in the spark plug hole on the 6th cylinder, which happens to be right in the area of the oil filter.
    What do you think? And is that a simple clean out if there is actually oil coating the plug?

  • @johnerway7255

    I was told the engine should be cold/room temperature to prevent spark plug treads damage. Aluminum heads was called out as being the issue, plus use tread lube for the install. Last was to apply die electric lube inside of the coil booth. Does this sound correct?

      @SlikLizrd Рік тому

      YEP. Not Hot. Not Cold. WARM.

    They make thread lube that contains copper not graphite, so not to have issues with action between aluminum and the plug material.

    I find it funny how you don't take the 7mm bolts out because it's almost impossible to remove them. You can't use a ratchet with an elbow. Wrenches don't work. It's bullshit. I have to use vice grips to loosen the #!$@ bolts.

      They're not that tightly torqued. I had trouble with my 7mm socket & 1/4" elbow-rubbing the fuel rail on a few of the coils, so I just used an end-wrench to break them free, and used my fingers to remove them.

    Tips. Instead of buying dilectric grease, use vaseline instead. Vaseline is the same thing and is a non conductor. Electrical cannot travel through vaseline. Tools you absolutely need for this job are one 4 inch extension and a 6 inch extension and a swivel elbow on the end at the spark plug socket as he used in the video. Do not do this job without these tools

      WTF !??? There is absolutely NO WAY that VASELINE is a substitute for DIELECTRIC GREASE.
      They are definitely NOT "the same thing", and DO NOT have similar chemical properties.
      NOTE: They use Dielectric Grease because VASELINE DOESN'T WORK !! 😁

    NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you torque them at 15 they can eventually vibrate loose and then
    wobble around in the hole til they blow out and take the threads in the head with them. To
    keep this from happening torque them to 28 foot lbs. This is common knowledge and is the proven fix for preventing spark plugs blowing out of the hole.
