Yeah you have to be selling items that you don't really care losing money on.
I’m a long time seller on Mercari and I agree I have seen a big drop in my sales average as well. I’m sure this is due to inflation but I believe it is also due to the huge amount of new people that are trying to be resellers that started during Covid and after. So the market is flooded with stuff so a buyer can pick and choose.

If it weren’t for Mercari, I wouldn’t have had any sales at all this weekend! Once you start using it for awhile you get a good idea of what is more cost effective to sell there VS eBay. It’s been an interesting experiment for me. Sometimes shipping on Mercari is way better than eBay and vice versa. It’s all about the weight(you don’t have to plug dimensions in to Mercari so sometimes you make out like a bandit!). Also, once you get the hang of crossposting to Mercari you can do it so quick because there are much less item specifics. Oh and one big bonus just announced is that Mercari will NOT be raising their shipping prices for the holidays. That’s huge.
That is awesome!! I knew doing this video I would learn more from the viewers then I already knew =) I didnt know about the not raising the shipping cost! I bet that will help Mercari in sales - I just sent something first class to California for $6.50! LOL that insane yea I think I just need to learn a little bit more about it but so far Im super duper happy with the items selling =)

@@beardedthriftmachine It makes you wonder why eBay doesn’t do the same kind of “flat rate” shipping like Mercari and FB marketplace(spoiler alert: I know the answer😂). I mean I can send something from California to you that is half a lb or less for $3.75 on FB Marketplace. I can’t even send a 4oz package to you for that on eBay! Maybe this competition will humble them eventually?!?!
@@gibbysgirls hahha we will see. LOL =) My next thing is shipping on Facebook - I dont have any listed and would be neat to see 500 listings on FB in a week.

And when you finish, a good idea (I’ve found) is to get into a routine of listing your items on eBay for the day, then sending them to list perfectly, then cross posting to BOTH FB and Mercari at the same time from list perfectly. That way you do the same listing twice in a row and have all the info in your head like weight etc. And just an FYI, there is a glitch between FB and List Perfectly right now. So it will transfer the information to FB but it won’t register on List perfectly that it did. So you just have to manually take the item off of FB when it sells on a different platform. Hope this makes sense.

I didn’t read the comments so I’m sure someone already told you but you can list your item as “free ship” and ship on your own. That way you can do padded flat rates or ship however you want!
Also when you get a return Mercari pays the return shipping so you’re not out anything!

Those are scammers who says the item doesn’t work or don’t fit. They try to get their money back and keep the purchase.

Some people will offer “free shipping “ and ship it themselves. That way they can use a padded flat rate or the other specific boxes. Just account for it in the price!🤷🏻♀️ enjoyed the video!

@@beardedthriftmachine Yup! Just use Pirate Ship for your USPS and UPS labels. That's the way I get around crazy shipping costs on other platforms.
But I’ve heard that’s how a lot of sellers get scammed because if you’re not using the Mercari shipping then it’s not insured. They say that Mercari won’t even try to help you if that happens.
@@Dainty213 I'm trying to find out about the Mercari protection too. From everything I am seeing on UA-cam, they say that Mercari sides with the buyer 99.9% of the time anyway, but I would like to still have the protection!
I put in a google sheet everything I cross post. Put the date I posted & price I posted on each platform. Then when I send a offer on one platform I highlight the price posted on that platform. That way before I make a offer on another platform I can make sure i can still remove it from the others. So I do find my “slower” to offer incase the other is platform is still pending. Works for me. But I use google sheet as taxes and profit/loss of each item already. So just added a few fields! Thanks for sharing with us! Good luck!

Use the USPS tubes and wrap then! My post office told me to do it! I use large vinyl mailers to wrap them.

Great work on Mercari! I do free shipping on most things there, especially golf clubs and heavier items. Then ship pirate ship and can use priority boxes.

Yep and the triangle tubes for golf clubs. Just have to build the cost in. Be careful not to underestimate or west coast can get you on vcr’s and such. You can copy and paste address info from mercari straight to pirate ship

Mercari sales are going to top EBay this Q4! I’ve had the same experiences with stale listings on eBay and boom sold as soon as they are listed on Mercari! But why oh why can’t you sell a shaft on there 😝😝😝😝😝

I’ve thought about listing more on mercari but my biggest issues is having to relist items that don’t sell, I’ve noticed when I’ve done that then my item will usually sell as opposed to eBay where it’s automatically relisted. I do like mercari but just wish they would stop advertising their platform as a yard sale, gotta attract those buyers with money.

@@beardedthriftmachine months later and mercari banned my account smh, it was only a side hustle for me but I got accused of selling counterfeit merchandise even though I submitted documentation and receipts to prove my items were real they didn’t care to reinstate it. I’m assuming some lazy incompetent moron on mercari was too lazy to actually look into the documentation because I was given the most generic response.
Not sure if anyone else suggested but a flower shop would have great long boxes that would be great for golf clubs :)

I sell on Mercari and eBay also. I have notice the same with items sitting a while one eBay, but sells fast on mercari. I had a nerf slingsot toy removed from mercari. When I asked them why, they told me because a slingshot is considered a weapon. 🤨
They have Mercari local only delivery. They pay 7.99 and an Uber driver picks it up and delivers it. Maybe that would work for you if they have it in your area.

I've noticed alot of hagglers and people complaining about shipping costs. My clothing sells better on Poshmark than Mercari. It's been interesting about my sales listing alot.
Fun Fact, you can use the USPS golf club size boxes at UPS. I'm not sure about Fed Ex, but definitely you can with UPS. At least my local UPS drop-off location never has an issue with it. I actually told them one day I thought it was absurd I had to pay $4 for a golf club box and they said to just use the USPS priority free ones. I'm not sure if your local drop off place will allow it or if you have to cover over the USPS portions, but they should allow it without doing that.
Ups doesn’t care because it’s post office money. Read term condition at post office. It specific said you can only use it for priority mail or express mail with the post office. It’s very unethical of you for using usps box at ups.
I have seen round tubes at Storage Units (Public Storage, Cube Smart etc.) that the golf clubs may fit into. Just a thought...

But you cant sell similar like copy the ad to save time. You cant list multiple items in 1 ad. They have a ceiling of 100 listings.

I saw a video the other day that the person flip a usps box inside out. By cutting it and that way he was able to use the box without no logo showing 🙌

@@beardedthriftmachine yea, they have logos on the inside of the box too. One way to get around that is to simply wrap it with a big ass poly bag.
I wrap all my big packages in cardboard and padding and tape then double garbage bag and more tape lmao. Ships every time. Nobody ever complains.

That’s crazy about the golf club considering I have seen vintage Playboy magazines sold on Mercari.
Try putting a box over the wedge or putter part and the wrap the club in bubble wrap and a poly bag see if sure post will let a club go that way very large garbage bags for contractors work as poly bags get like a vase or doll type box put over litter or driver then wrap all of the rest in bubble wrap and then the contractor garbage bag

I don't like Mercari very much, but have some sales. Are you using mercari labels or your own. You can ship with pirateShip and use priority mail as you do on Ebay, and now they added UPS also.

The majority of the time I charge shipping.
Just be careful because your dings are counted and for instance 1 more could shut ya down without warning. I got dinged for listing foreign coins which i only listed because i used there search engine of what sold for coins. It could be another seller flagging your listing, so keep that in mind too. Also Mercari will respond to your concerns if you think your ding wasn't warranted. So be sure they won't hurt you in the long run.

I had to dispute a ding on Honora pearls because it said my listing didn't display the Honora hallmark or tag but it very much did, they reviewed my photos and sure enough they apologized and relisted it. Don't be afraid to write your concerns, remember you are a paying consumer too.

So far I've posted 181 items only Sold 3 which isn't bad but when your trying to raise money for a wedding and all the sale prices are reasonable for never worn stuff it's a bit ridiculous when people want it cheaper

Thanks for the video! I just started cross posting to Mercari about two weeks ago and have like 6 sales. But this week I hit 100 active items on Mercari and Mercari told me I couldn't have more than 100 active items at a time. I was surprised. Is this because I'm using a free version of Mercari or something and I need a paid monthly store on there or something to have more than a 100 active listings at a time????
Really? I didnt know there was limit on Mercari. Now I had mercari before so maybe thats why I could list so much. But Ill have to look into that. - if it is a limit like they have on Ebay you can usually ask for it to be raised.

@@beardedthriftmachine So turns out since I was only a couple weeks into using Mercari at the point that it said I couldn't post more than 100 active listings at a time it was because I was so new I only had 1 "Completed" sale on Mercari at that point.
I reached out to Mercari about why I could only post 100 listings and I got this response:
The number of listings that new sellers can list is capped at 100. This limit will be raised by another 100 as you complete your second sale.
After each subsequent sale after that it will go up by another hundred until you reach the final listing cap.
So think of it like, the second sale, goes up to 200, the third sale, goes up to 300, and so on and so forth until the cap limit of (2000) listings, which will be hit by your 20th completed sales.

Except they didn't even send me an email that confirmed the why, I've been eBay as a buyer and 2 years as a seller with 100% positive feedback and got banned a few weeks ago. Couldn't get a live person to call me back or anything, only issue had been them trying to verify my bank info for Managed payments and I had sent it to them 3 times. VERY messed up and awful customer service from them because would only answer me in the chat area.😞

I’ve finally got everything on there and I find myself freaking out that no one’s bought anything in 0.0002 seconds of me posting the item. So I feel I might be lowering prices/ promoting a little too soon. What’s your time frame?

But I was wondering you say you have to find different boxes you can't use the USPS boxes for shipping with macari when it's over a certain weight but what if you just spray painted the box from USPS? If you white out the whole thing, wouldn't would that be easier or cheaper? Just a thought I'm new to online selling I've done Facebook selling in the past and was pretty successful with it and I'm just now getting back into it again but now I'm trying to do the online aspect as well so it's definitely different and intimidating when it comes to the mailing process.
