    Thank you very much for sharing this video. Us E53 owners need these tutorials to keep our cars on the road. Most of us wouldn’t be able to afford the running costs if we had to go to a BMW garage for repairs and maintenance. Owning an E53 is a labour of love.

    You had the press, why not use it to take the old ball joint out!! You had the different size cups - all you need. No need to pound with a hammer. The press with differrent size cups is available for free to use at auto parts stores!

    i like to use a flamethrower and a jack hammer. If that doesnt do the trick just get a little bit of C4 make sure its not a lot or you will blow up the car just enough to destroy the bushing and it comes right off!

    For anyone with air ride suspension that is having troubling realigning the holes to get the big bolt in. You need to drain the air in the bag, it’s pushing pressure down and out. Follow the first video I post to get access to it and follow the second video to learn how to drain the bag. They’re videos on how to replace the air suspension so don’t follow the whole thing, just drain the bags and everything will follow.
    1) ua-cam.com/video/bx2yLRNTVcM/v-deo.html
    2) ua-cam.com/video/VYMAHjhJUPM/v-deo.html
    You may have to remove the sliding tray if you have it. I had to but it’s only 8 bolts, no biggy. They all striped but I just took a drill through the top and knocked the heads off and replaced them with actual bolts, not those Allen wrench shitty bolts.

    Thank you for this! I have one question and I have been trying for a couple of days now. It's the very last step. For some reason I can't get the control arm and the knuckle to come together to get that final really long bolt through. The control arm keeps getting caught up on the ball joint. The only thing I can think of is that the ball joint was pressed too far. It did go about an 1/16 of an inch too far, the aluminum is pretty soft. Can you help!?! 2001 x5

    • @Jpetovic
      @Jpetovic 6 років тому +1

      LIOTBs I know it’s a little tricky to put it in but try lineup the knuckle better should go in with no problem Try using a screwdriver on the other side of the hole to keep it align

    Decent video, music was unnecessary and annoying - in my experience, it was impossible to beat the ball joint out in situ, I had to remove the brake, the axel nut & CV shaft, front and rear control arms, put it in an VICE, and beat the living hell out of for over an hour with a 5-lb hammer, WD-40, and even a grinder. Not as easy as any of the 'blue-sky world' UA-cam videos purport.

      The BMW tool has a cup with one side cut out to enable it to fit and align properly for ball joint removal

    I should have just dropped the lower arm out the way for better access it was just about 3 extra bolts and shock absorber out the way , would make life easier, and you need a decent tool , the one in this video is a very solid tool, not many mechanics want do this job they hate it , that’s why I ended up doing myself many times 👍🇬🇧🙏🏼👌😂

    The video skills could use improvement. The mistake you have done is simple.
    Either use something to absorb the smack of the bearing cause you are damaging the suspension or use the tool.
    NEVER hit something to remove it unless you got a back support to absorb the impact
