@@SW-pm3lsGenerally it's low battery. Mine was caused by the alternator and needed replacing. A nightmare because I was on the motorway driving from Scotland to Bristol at the time. 😂
I’ve got a 2006 E53 3.0L petrol my son drives. Sees about 3000-4000 miles a year only. Have had major issues with the CCV and 2 years ago caused the diaphragm to freeze on a cold winter night. Ended up detonating the engine at 75k miles requiring a replacement. Found a low mileage one then had a catch can installed which I check every week in the colder months and make sure it’s clear. Also had the seat occupancy pad go bad in passenger seat. Common issue. Some were recalls, mine was not. Found a bypass module on eBay for $50 along with seatbelt bypass. Works perfectly but cannot have small child in front as the airbag will deploy regardless if in an accident. Yaw sensor went bad, steering angle sensor too. Occasional weird electrical gremlins that come and go. Purchased a good OBD2 scanner which has helped clear many things. Still love the car. My 17 year old refuses to give it up even with the piss poor fuel mileage. I’ll take it back over when he leaves for college next year and hope it lasts another few years.
Things mine (184hp Diesel, 2003) came up with: Automatic transmission (5-speed GM model) complete revision - actually also a very common issue. Change transmission oil on regular basis every 50-80.000km. It is supposed to be a lifetime filling, which us absolutely not true! Trunk-doorswitch and plate-lights. Doorhandle. Speedometer diplay (pixel-faults), a/c-fan, compressor, cooler, injection-pump, fuel-pressure gauge, front axle ball joints , window regulator. Still love this car. Beauitiful runner, now 260tkm, 10.5l/100km ✌️
Good review. Just sold my 535i f10 and bought a x5 e53 with the m54. Beast of a car. My car before was a e39 523i Owned it 13 years and put 430.000 km on it
The moonroof leaking is a very common problem that can lead to a very bad problem if not addressed. 4 drain tubes that drain to the four corners, but if one comes unconnected can lead to full electrical failure. My glovebox got flooded as well as the rear fuse panel in the back. Not as bad as some others where the battery compartment fills with water. Be aware!!!
I have E53 too. I would maybe point the splines of front driveshaft too for common point you need to do to the car at some point. But it's nice car, for my opinion the most beautiful of the X5's.
What an extremely useful video, thanks SO much!! My '06 E53 X5 is having intermittent electrical issues, always the same things: Airbag and seatbelt lights on - no cruise control - no front seat heaters - wipers behave oddly - interior lighting goes off and on - headlights off and on...I assume this is a module but where is it?
And all those things fail or act strange at the same time...sometimes if you shut it off and start it they go away and everything is good, but then it'll randomly return.
Does your ignition switch perform properly 100% of the time? If yes , get the wiring schematics for your vehicle and see if some of the faulty circuits (the ones mentioned) share a common ground or bcm. Your problems seem to stem from a single source losing 12- or 12+. If you have water ingress thru roof cartridge, window or a/b/c pillars, then fault may lie in a damp harness connection. Many are under carpet and seats including rear.
My X5 has been ultra-reliable... except for the door handle carriers. I've had three replaced for new ones, and now I need a 4th! It is an obvious design fault and the pins on the carriers are far too feeble for such heavy doors.
Had that problem twice after the original broke on the driver's side. Replaced it with the help of UA-cam and the internet. What a pain in the rear! The first replacement broke after a year. Ordered from ebay or Amazon. Didn't sound solid from the get go. Gave up the cheap ones and bought one from the dealership. No problem since. I think i broke the airbag connector though because the airbag light won't go out.

I had the cranking problem but not starting. It was ok for a little while but then would not start at all. It turned out to be the fuel pump that needed to be replaced.

Thanks for very informative video. I'm having troubles with a battery drain, narrowed it down to Fuses 14, 27, 43 and 60. Is it worth replacing GM3 (expensive) or is it something simpler ?
might not be your issue but try this simple thing - go towards your radio module and remove the tiny little fuse, usually red colour. It may not be blown but oxidated. If it looks old simply buy a new one and change it. I fixed battery drain with that on two cars already. If not then try your blower final resistor. They do not show any codes when they go out but this is a sign of them leaving this world. But as I wrote - they do not show anything until they simply stop working one day. Change is somewhat rather easy but before you order a new one get the old one out to confirm part number AND (!!!) shape of the spike field. Some are in a triangle some in other shapes and it sometimes (very rarely) does not respond to the part catalogue to the vehicles VIN code even thou it should. But such slip ups happen to other brands as well.

Hi Dean, Love your channel, have you come across self levelling suspension inactive problem on X5 E53 2005? There are a lot of post about it but none have helped me, It would be great to hear what you have to say about it.
Hi Dean, do you know where about`s the earth strap is from the engine to chassis, I have looked and cannot find unless its above the metal shield under back of engine. I have had a starter and battery but go slow cranking when starting
Great videos as always. I have a e53 face-lift with self level suspension. I have converted to coil springs all round but now have error message on dash. Is there any way to permanently turn off the error message? Also rough idea of what it costs to do so. Any help greatly appreciated

IF u are cheap you can put resistor into the socket in wire harness that used to read the level suspension, you need atleast good electrician than can calculate proper value and insulate it right.

My sister has a X5 I think its an 04, her dash lights are staying on after she cuts off the car and its draining her battery. She can't afford to take it to a mechanic. Can you give her some insight on what it could be? She desperately wants to get it fixed, and I am not a mechanic, but she thinks I can just "figure it out" and its not that simple and she doesn't understand that you have to know about X5's and their problems in order the pinpoint a problem...any help you can provide would be really appreciated.

Hi mate, I’ve got an 06 x5 and it sounds and feels like it’s brother got a boost leak or somethings a miss on the exhaust. Are they’re any common boost leaks on them?
Hi there I’ve got a 2004 3.0d, no crank no start issue, changed the ignition for a cheap import part still no crank no start, changed the starter, still no crank no start, put the original ignition switch back in and it started, a week later no crank no start again, may I please ask if the ignition switch is dead will it kill all power to the starter ?
Great video. An issue I have found with my 06 X5 is the sunroof now won't physically open except for upward a small bit, and the shade slides back and forward in only small increments. I've tried a sunroof "reset" but no luck. Heard the sunroofs can also be common problem. Any suggestions on how to address this matter?
Hi I have a 630 with a load of lights that have come up on the dash. It sat for around 7 weeks and was fine before. I have recharged the battery and have crossed the neg and positive lead to wipe out ecu faults in system but fault still remains. I have checked ( all) fuses today in boot as I wanted to change cigarette fuse as I knew this blew before parking up. I have a light on the dash that is yellow with an arrow that points left and right over the roof of the car in the display but have no idea what it is are you able to advise. Im limited with knowledge on cars but like to try do what I can. It also now only will go to reverse 123 gears only seat belt restraint sign up and ABS. Many thanks
Have you had your battery actually low tested have the actual cranking amps computed? If your battery is suspect put a new one and then have all your codes cleared with a machine and then see what comes back if any because the codes were probably set while I had the low-voltage to begin with and if you haven't had them cleared then their still stored
Thanks for the video. I own one of these and my biggest fear is where and most times the best replacement parts to buy if you can afford or get the original. At the moment I need door carriers. Bought the first one online, it it’s not working. Where can I get good replacements and we just sealed the engine and it’s leaking again. Which engine seal is the best to buy.
I bought mine from the dealership. Bought a cheap one before. Having to go through the agony of getting access and reversing the procedure is worth not having to repeat the process when the cheap ones break.
Hi Bimmer Brother..I have 2006 E53 4.8is..lately I get this message on the radio screen "no cd"..would that be the laser reader not working or just a simply procedure to fix it like disconecting cable to cd changer?
Thank you for your videos. I have an issue with my headunit, both the CD and radio doesn't turn on. The time date, fuel consumption etc work but no sound. I checked the fuse in the glove box, Fuses back of the boot, Took the battery out for 30mins, None of this fixed the issue. I then checked the BM54 radio module under the battery and its missing?? I don't have the Sat Nav edition, mine is a 2004 E53 X5 with business CD player... Can you help

Hi do you perchance know the part number for an e53 2005 front door handles I purchased already but the cables are too long it is a 3 litte diesel sport
Couldn’t agree more. The design of the bracket that supports those lines retains moisture and will cause the lines to corrode and fail, it’s just a matter of time. When you’re in there to repair the first one that fails, do both. Removing and reinstalling the large plastic panel that covers that area is not fun so you definitely don’t want to do the job twice.
Bought one recently, after less than 2 weeks the brake master cylinder and brake servo broke then only one day later the gear box just stopped working and I scrapped it for £500. So gutted 😞
have a x5 e53 thats been of the road for about 6 years, trying to get it back on the road. have changed the fuel pump and battery, the car unlocks with the key, the engine turns over but does not fire, have tried spraynin carb cleaner in the air intake and the car will start for a few secs, could you advise as to what could be causing the issue ?, thanks in advance
Hi, i go use google translator, im not english: All BMWs that do not start with the original keys must check if they have the Transponder in the key and if it is good, what prevents BMWs from 1998 to 2009 from not starting is due to the EWS module, The EWS module receives information from the Ring of the Key (circle around the Key on the Steering Wheel) communicates with the EWS and the EWS will inform the BDC (controls the engine and others) that it can start. This is the Anti-Theft System. I hope it helps, PS: If you make a new key, you have to read the EWS Module and then Encode the Transpower on the new key. New key needs Cut Blade, Transponder and Circuit (Command).
Hey guys , just find out my X5's E53 got a problem on the windscreen wash not working anymore , the wipes working but doesn't spread any water when pull the switch , any ideas what will be the issue ?
ive heard 2005 x5 3.0 is best model year. sadly even if yo have it a low mileage one the rest ofthe body still has aged nearly 20 years old and all the other things will go wrong. pumps, air suspension, handles, heater etc ettc.
Hi can you give me a pointer please? I bought a 2005 yesterday and the test drive was fine but when I got it on the motorway it won't go over 70mph, if I floor it it just seems to run into a limiter. I'm not having a lot of luck with cars at the moment. Have you ever come across anything like this? Cheers Martin
If the vehicles not in a failsafe mode then I would suspect you're being Limited air intake or exhaust discharge or most likely a drop in fuel pressure. If you were to step on it from 20 miles an hour will it pull strong all the way up to 70? Make sure you don't have a air filter too clogged up or some other hindrance and that put your hand over the tailpipe make sure you got Bellow sound at the end there without sounding restricted and then you can take the next step of putting a pressure gauge on the rail line turn the key over make sure it pops up to about 60 and then do it a couple more times
Hi ı live in canada. Hi. I'm using a 2005 model E53 x5. At 150,000 kilometers. I have a problem. I have to try 3-6 times while starting the car every morning. The same thing happens again when the engine cools down. I turn the key but it doesn't work. the engine is coughing. Then I start it with the accelerator pedal. They told me the gas pump is the problem. I changed the fuel pump. The problem is still the same. Now they say to change the fuel filter. I'm really about to go crazy. I'm so tired of going to the service all the time. Can you help me ?
Nooo! In your case, the thing you must change is the pre-heating module and depitometer, it's about $200 US for the depitometer and another $300 for the pre-heating module, and you are good to go!

No mention of the transmission problems or transmission fail safe?!
What do you know about these subjects friend? I have seen “transmission fail safe” light on my dash
@@truthseeker5806Battery or alternator.
I'd rather deal with the m62 instead of the n62 just more mechanical
Hi there! Nice video! Need some advice please, my x5 2005 is getting hot air from the driver side and cold air from the passenger side... please I need some advice in what the problem could be, thanks in advance!
Mine is the other way around out the vent on auto temp
Hi mate, I’ve got an 06 x5 and it sounds and feels like it’s brother got a boost leak or somethings a miss on the exhaust. Are they’re any common boost leaks on them?
Hi there
I’ve got a 2004 3.0d, no crank no start issue, changed the ignition for a cheap import part still no crank no start, changed the starter, still no crank no start, put the original ignition switch back in and it started, a week later no crank no start again, may I please ask if the ignition switch is dead will it kill all power to the starter ?
What size wheels are those?
thoughts on the 4.8is?
I own one I love it
@Rudy R what problems have you come across with the v8 variant!?
Great sound 😊
Hi,we are looking to buy a x5 2008 E70F & the car has "ENGINE OIL PRESSURE TO LOW" he's had serviced by bmw...any ideas? Cheryl from Australia.☺️
Do the E70 4.4L have fuel filter?
Great review and some great pointers.
Great video. An issue I have found with my 06 X5 is the sunroof now won't physically open except for upward a small bit, and the shade slides back and forward in only small increments. I've tried a sunroof "reset" but no luck. Heard the sunroofs can also be common problem. Any suggestions on how to address this matter?
you have a allen key to wind it manually. mine got stuck. one or to turns and it free'd it up. works good now
Is there a resister on both the drivers and passenger side for the heat?
On auto for temp, the left side is cold.
What do I fix?
You only have one blower resistor but you'll have a blend door and another blend door
Usually not door handle brakes but inside that silumin frame brokes.
Try ecs tunning or fcpeuro
I bought mine from the dealership. Bought a cheap one before. Having to go through the agony of getting access and reversing the procedure is worth not having to repeat the process when the cheap ones break.
Hi Bimmer Brother..I have 2006 E53 4.8is..lately I get this message on the radio screen "no cd"..would that be the laser reader not working or just a simply procedure to fix it like disconecting cable to cd changer?
Thank you for your videos. I have an issue with my headunit, both the CD and radio doesn't turn on. The time date, fuel consumption etc work but no sound. I checked the fuse in the glove box,
Fuses back of the boot,
Took the battery out for 30mins,
None of this fixed the issue.
I then checked the BM54 radio module under the battery and its missing??
I don't have the Sat Nav edition, mine is a 2004 E53 X5 with business CD player...

The keys battery is recharged through the ignition.

Any help with washer jets not working. Replaced new pump but still nothing? Please help a brother out 👍
Surprised there was no mention about the rear brake lines leaking under the running board.
Blower motor not working, replaced FSU, fuses but still nada. Dont want to replace the motor.... Any tips?
Bought one recently, after less than 2 weeks the brake master cylinder and brake servo broke then only one day later the gear box just stopped working and I scrapped it for £500. So gutted 😞
Aren't there aftermarket door handles with a different mechanism which fix the design fault?
No.
have a x5 e53 thats been of the road for about 6 years, trying to get it back on the road. have changed the fuel pump and battery, the car unlocks with the key, the engine turns over but does not fire, have tried spraynin carb cleaner in the air intake and the car will start for a few secs, could you advise as to what could be causing the issue ?, thanks in advance
Pls what is the rim size and code on this x5?
Hi I have a e53 3.0d I takes long to start and when it starts it jump to 1500rpm and it drops when I step on the brakes. Not sure what's wrong
Hey Doc! N47 vs N47T. What's the actual difference?
Turbo nozzle adjustment? Easy ones use vacuum adjustment later ones electric I think.
@bmwdoctor
