I've posted my key bindings for the bravo on my website, with more to come in the future for different airplane types: flightsim.school/2024/11/22/a-quickstart-guide-to-bindings-in-msfs2024/
Do you have any suggestions for binding an axis? For example I have a helicopter collective would it be the same thing - start the bind at the bottom, do the full range and then finish where I started?
2020 did not have per plane configuration. So, every time you change the plane, you had to change the profile for each control device. It was horrible unless you rarely changed planes. Now, in 2024, any changes you make in a plane controls will stay there every time you come back to it. You can also hit apply to all planes, and it will be there for all of them. I find 2024 controls are not just better but game-changing. Other sims like DCS had it for a long time, I dont know why they didn't in 2020.
Thanks! This was driving me nuts... haven't had a lot of time lately and having to redo my control settings has been a real bummer! The "binding groups" thing was frustrating. Maybe I can do this tomorrow and actually get into the air.
Hi Marc, hope all is well - so glad you are posting how to videos for MSFS 2024 - hope to see many more as the weeks go by - all your videos are helpful!!!!!!!!
Huge help! This is the kind of info I need to get going with MSFS 2024. Started my flight sim hobby a year ago with xPlane figuring I'd wait for MSFS 2024. Fortunately my Honeycomb Alpha/Bravo is plug and play in 2024 (but no lights or switch mappings) so at least I can fly, but trying to get everything else working is so much harder than in xPlane.
Great video! I was a bit confused about how to use the different presets for airplane controls and specific controls. Your video helped a lot to clear everything. I have a Honeycomb Alpha-Bravo combo and a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, so changing both the profile and the inout device is a bit of a chore in the beginning. However, since 2024 is set per plane contrary to 2020, once it is done, I dont have to touch it, which is great news for me.
Hi Marc, The aircraft-specific bindings are mapped when you bind something that is specific for an airfract. For example, the Avionics Bus 1 and 2 are 172-specific. I bind them for my startup sequence for this airplane.
Thanks for this video, Marc. it cleared the fog for me with this interface. Big duh moment when you explained Airplane label equated to Airplane controls section. I think I can muddle through this now. It is a very powerful interface just very confusing with no documentation.
Just FYI. I like flying the Vision Jet (G2) too, but after doing these bindings I still can't get control of the nav lights on this plane. They are always on. Landing lights and strobes do turn on/off. Deleted all conflicts and still no luck. However, the same bindings work fine on the 172, all lights, full on/off control. I'm using the standard light control switches on my Alpha Yoke. Tried a switch on the Bravo with same result, no control. Strange that it would work for you on the Bravo but not for me. I'm seeing lots of inconsistency in controls as I try different airplanes. Perhaps bugs in the airplane models that will get ironed out over time, or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, which is entirely the case...🙂
I see this plane does not have a switch for nav lights, only strobe, landing and ice?. Perhaps it's not a s/w bug but the way the plane was designed. Anyway, your method for binding these switches works perfectly!
Merci. As expected, there are going to be a lot of growing pains--not just the PITA of setting everything up, but the many annoying bugs. I know this is a bit off-topic, but it would be great to see some related advice. One of the worst issues I've experienced so far is the inability to turn rotary knobs, such as adjusting OBS or HDG or zooming a Garmin GPS. I can click the Direct to button, but can't enter a waypoint. I've tried changing the settings but can't get the curved arrows to appear in the click spots--just those weird blue/yellow highlights. I have peripherals but obviously, the keyboard and mouse are essential for certain inputs.
I switched mine into legacy control mode in the settings to get rid of that, the only issue I’m having now it I can’t click on the top of the gps knob in a g1000, not sure if it’s a bug or I’m doing something wrong though
Check the brake binding -- Citation CJ4 for example --- and see if the left and right brakes do not function independently and that pilot - copilot axis are reversed.....
Very useful video Mark. Quick question. Using Nav Lights, as an example, what is the difference between "Nav Lights On / Off", "Toggle Nav lights" and "Set Nav Lights". I understand the first two, but what does "Set" do?
To be honest, I’m not certain, I never used it in 2020. I *think* it’s more for external apps (like spad or axisandohs) through simconnect to give it another way to set a value with a parameter. But I’m not sure about that.
so the binding group works as a layer architecture? so first, everything fro layer "airplanes controls" is applied, in case there is the same thing defined within "specific xxx controls", this "specific" profile overrules the "airplanes controls"?
No, my assumption is that a specific binding would be tagged as ‘specific’ and therefore be saved as a specific controls preset. It wouldn’t be saved as an airplane control at all.
Hi Mark. Very good video as always! Any keybinding to set heading bug to current heading? Found a binding for setting it to N which is not very useful. I would think in 99% of cases you want to set it to current heading (takeoff, AP on/off etc)
As far as I know there's no shortcut for that. The only exception is in something like the Airbus, when you set it to heading mode it'll default to your current heading
The problem with toggle is it won’t always set the state properly, so you can easily end up in a situation where the on and off become inverted if you forgot the switch on the bravo on initially.
Thanks, I've saved my bindings several times and applied to All planes . However it only saves it to 1 aircraft and when I close the game/it crashes I lose all the bindings. I will try again tomorrow
Any Idea how to get Trac IR to work? I see it in the menu when I bring up the menu from witching the plane and it’s selected but it doesn’t work. I can’t figure out how to get it to work! Any help would be appreciated!!
@ Yeah thats kinda what I’m thinking too. It sees it because it’s selected in the drop down menu but it won’t work. Very strange. Not a big fan of this new MSFS. Feels rushed and incomplete to me. Thanks for the reply and the assistance.
I think those are Tags. So that binding is used for Airplanes and is a Digital control (as opposed to some kind of analog device). There are probably tags for Helicopter, Balloon, etc.
OK so I create bindings for my keyboard and named it Profil 1. It is cockpikt camera I reassigned. I save default and to all aircraft. This I have done in default Airbus 320 (Inibuild). After sved and go back I load up the A321 default but the camera views is not there. Why ?????????? Pls help me before I brake down totaly
It's VERY IMPORTANT that you make sure not to mention that there's a preset called "2020 transversal" that defaults to setting the same key bindings as the older sim. If you mention that then you will destroy the impression you are giving that each and every binding has to be reset individually .😜
Hey good video, I am having an issue with my logitech 3D Pro , its related with the helicopter trottle, I have only test it in the heli that is in the training sessions, my little power stick in the 3d pro works fine in planes but is not binded in helicopters, I did bind it but is not recognizing it, anybody help with this?
@@FlightSimSchool Yeah, I notice things are stabilize as days go by, my largest upset apart from the installation issues and the bandwidth has been having to rebind all my controllers, thought it would have been as seamless as 2020 with a few changes here and there! But thank you for the video, great tips!
2020 was the worst sim binding I’ve seen in 30 years of gaming…. How they set an even new low is just incredible. Go look at Aces High which arguably is the best and has been since 1997. When you move a control it should go straight to where it’s bound. When you click to bind you should be able to bind ANY device at any time. When you have a conflict. Both should be brought to the top of the list and highlight as you move the control or push the button. You should be able to see the live axis reading inline with the controls name after it’s bound and then also inside the curve editor with both raw and post curve outputs. Any binding should be able to be hidden or disabled without unbinding it in line in the menu with the controls name. There should be no guessing! Oh yes.. having 3 different levels of saved presets is infuriating and having the software rename a preset without my command is a no go…. Please go back to the drawing board and keep it simple stupid..

You shouldn't need to go through the full range, it'll automatically detect it's an axis when you move it.
@@FlightSimSchool it was button 5 on my saitek to open and close atc window, as well as scroll lock. Both buttons still open it but don’t close it!
Best explanation I’ve found yet. Thank you. Why they didn’t keep it the same as 2020 is baffling.
2020 did not have per plane configuration. So, every time you change the plane, you had to change the profile for each control device. It was horrible unless you rarely changed planes. Thanks for the video. One of the best explaintions of the bindings yet. Back in the old days you would get a manual. Still have my FS3.0 manual.
Yes, I remember those manuals :D Long gone are those days....
Thanks! This was driving me nuts... haven't had a lot of time lately and having to redo my control settings has been a real bummer! The "binding groups" thing was frustrating. Maybe I can do this tomorrow and actually get into the air.

Thank you for this very useful and, as usual, clearly explained video! 🙏

You are able to bindings on the Xbox controller u press the left button next to the share button

@ Thanks. Strange this is not implemented since many aircrafts do this when pushing the heading knob…
So in 2020 the sim recognised the controller and its presets. Is this not the case on 2024?
Use Toggle Nav lights, that is a lot easier than binding on and off separately.
The problem with toggle is it won’t always set the state properly, so you can easily end up in a situation where the on and off become inverted if you forgot the switch on the bravo on initially.

Definitely agree that it’s been rushed!
Can you do one on loading custom views?
I'm thinking of doing one on camera setup on general, haven't 100% committed to it yet though.
how can i use joystick button to open ATC and then close it with same button. No longer works like MSFS 20?
Have a look at what your binding was set to in 2020, and it should be named in a similar way in 2024
Next to 'Airplanes' is 'Digital', any info on what that means?
Helpful info. Thank you

Go back into your profiles and make sure that the ones that are selected are the ones you created.
Yes I checked that, do not know what I done wrong.
Hover your mouse over binding you wany to clear and hit "backspace" to clear that specific binding
That works in the settings, but not from 'quick controls' from the in-flight drop down, at least, not for me!

Not being able to see botton inputs and axii values in the configuration screens is maddening.

Where are the tobii settings now?
You should see Tobii in the list of controllers. However, I've had issues trying to enabled it (it crashes to desktop)
