I have never hunted elk but over the course of 2023 I have developed an obsession with it. Will definitely be doing more than 1 in 2024 and ElkShape has helped me become as informed and educated as one can be without the actual experience! Great work Sir!
Way to go! I for one really appreciate all the hard work and humble approach after an animal is down. We should all pause and honor the life we have just taken. Good on ya!
Thank you for sharing your hunt, wasn't sure if you were going to film this year. Congratulations on your 2 bulls! Glad you got your wallet back! God is good!!! Thank you for giving God glory on your films!
Great video Dan. I’m 60 and won’t hunt elk until the week of my 61st birthday. Seeing your dad inspired me! You inspire me. Why anyone would dislike you is beyond me. You are a straight forward and honest guy and work your ass off!
Feels good to see you had some goofy situations too this year. I attended your camp in WA this summer and took a lot away from it. We were on elk every day. We could've closed on day 1 opener but I was getting too into being the caller that day and left my bow on my pack two handing a branch raking a tree and making noise. Bull walked to my partner as planned, but only gave him a head shot while from my angle, I was broadside the whole time. Lesson learned and kept bow in hand every day after. We weren't able to get a bull but we got a cow the last day of early season. Your camp really did help since I took all the drills home and worked my partner hard to get him into elkshape lol. Thanks Dan!
Fast paced format was money! Stayed engaged the whole time… the contrast between the 2 hunts was insane… 1.5 days compared to almost 30! Oh but those public land DIY solo hunts are so rewarding! Mad props and well done! 🙌🏻
You brotha! I've been watching you're films for the last few months and I appreciate your advice. You always have a positive attitude, and your going home like I am. You seem like you'd be a great hunting partner & friend.. it's hard to find those quality individuals who are selfless and have the same drive. I'll be 35 in November & I've been mostly solo for bow elk the last couple years!
Dan love how you did this video and showed some days Nothing Happens but to keep grinding it out there. My dad past away in Sept. and was on a hunt in Colorado a couple week later trying to get it done in his memory. Was unsuccessful but in elk 2 of the 8 days and just didn't have the right opportunity but being able to be out there with his presence was the success I needed. Public Land is not easy and I appreciate how you let everyone know the reality of how hard a hunter has to work. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing all that you do! Happy Thanksgiving.
I always have a 27mm. Once you have to go across town to get one you’ll never leave it behind again. Metric Allen and wrench set is a must too on a bike. Definitely difficult to bow hunt if you can’t call them in. Hearing a roar in the woods has got to be the most powerful experience. Great work on the hunt and the production. Nice stabilizer setup. Today’s modern stabilizers make hunting bows perform like target stabilizers. It’s good to see target fundamentals applied to bow hunting.
And, I thought it was just me leaving crap at camp or breaking my bow or breaking whatever... Love it! I don't mean to enjoy the adversity, but its great to see the best of the best struggle as well on an elk hunt - elk hunting is hard! Love the vids, Dan.
Thank you for making this into a short film with highs and lows and not turning into a strung out hour long ted talk with 12 minutes of action I truly like this style more then other UA-camrs and THIS is why I will always be subscribed thank you Dan your awesome congrats btw ...and my condolences to Tyler and his family
I absolutely loved this format you came up with, great job, thank you so much for sharing, my elk season didn’t produce a bull, but as usual it did produce memories i will never forget!
The very best production of real struggles and successes with a positive outlook. Control your attitude and effort 👌. Congrats and keep up the great work!
Dan, Congrats! That new Mathew's Lift did some work! Plan on getting one soon! Thanks for bringing us on your journey, and I hope to harvest my own Oklahoma Bull this year!
Real deal elk hunter right here!! Public land at its true way! Keep it up and love seeing your progress. I love mule deer like you elk. One day I’ll harvest an elk. Thank you for all you do and keep it going. God bless
Hi from Australia. You hunt like we do here in Victoria. I appreciate how you show the suck but in a positive light. The country here is similar to Appalachia but the Samba are the size of Elk. I started out bow hunting (laws made it easier) and moved to rifle. But frankly, given the country, the advantage is ~60yards...
What an amazing experience! Very well filmed, dude!!! Thank you for taking us on that journey with you, man! You have a great perspective on Elk Hunting and archery alike. Love your content!
Dan, good video. I especially appreciate you documented it took 3 weeks before making a kill. People need to have realistic expectations and I think it helps when influencers show exactly how challenging the game is. Thanks for representing our community with a message of positivity and hard work.
This was a tough year for me in the Midwest. Several misses, rain storms, temps and all. Finally filled two tags on the 3rd week of season and found my groove. Few days later I partially tore multiple ligaments in my ankle and was down for 3 weeks missing the rut. Got after it and was able to go out on my own power and fill my rifle tag on a nice deer solo. I was slow but I didn’t quit. It’s all in the mind. Hope that helps someone. Great film Dan.
Thank you for filming and sharing this. I love how grateful you are when you got those bulls. I've never been hunting before and have no family that hunts. I want to start and recently got myself a mathews bow which I've been learning to shoot and work on thanks to your channel and others. Hopefully one day soon I can get a guide for my first couple times to learn the ropes and I don't waste an animal for no reason, that would break my heart. Films like this are incredibly inspiring and I think I would be the same way, thanking God for the opportunity to harvest any wild animal like this.
Love ur hunts and ur passion. Enjoy every day and minutes of ur hunts. Just turned 75 this yr. Still hunted but mountains gettin taller. Ur rt Septembers r finite. Enjoy um all.
Kick ass. It's awesome that you got some precious time in the outdoors doing what you love and train so frickin' hard to do. What a way to honor God. Partaking in what He has provided for us. I would've skipped the last tag as well to get back to my family. If I had one. Lol. Being single is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Congratulations on the successful season through all the ups and downs. Putting meat in the freezer and points in the rafters. Proves "Separation is in the Preparation" is a real thing. #ElkShape #ABT #SeperationIsInThePreparation
Congrats man ..I know how tough public land elk hunting is I've hunted elk on public land for 3 years and have yet to shoot one but every year I learn more about it ..even though I wasn't successful yet I always had a blast trying..
Great job Dan! I feel like I've gotten to know you through the Elk Collective I recently purchased this summer. I enjoy your enthusiasm, and your content is excellent. Congratulations on your success this past season, and I hope the 2024 season is your best one yet. God bless!
That place down here in Utah really is special, ruts like you’ve never heard nor seen before. If ya know ya know😉 congrats on the bull man! And that new lift is shootin lazer beams🔥
Great film Dan! Man, the PLH was tough this year but you stuck it out and reaped the rewards. Thanks for bringing all of us along! And northern Utah - that looks like a very special place...
Finally got time to watch this film , your content continually gets better! absolutely love your humbleness when you are successful, your respect for the animal is something all hunters need to see! it’s awesome to see such hard work and dedication pay off. Congrats sir and enjoy that protein, you earned it.
Great video. Probably felt as much relief when you found your wallet as you did when you found your bull. Love the scenery and video content. Living in Ohio an Elk hunt out west is on my short dream hunt list. Congrats on two successful Elk hunts.
Awesome thank you for your videos, I’m learning from you and MFJJ and also Tim Conner a lot, I’m new at this I’m really excited to learn all I can about bow shooting and soon bow hunting thank you. 🙏🏽
Wow, Dan! What a month! Now I know why it's "elk shape" Michigan whitetail isn't as hard that's for sure. FWIW, I like you even more now that I know you're a Believer! Congrats on a heck of a hunt, Brother!
Thank you for sharing Dan, I went on my 1st elk hunt this year I was unsuccessful in the fact I didn't put one on the ground. But very successful in learning and enjoying the experience. I am hooked for sure.
Hey Dan, I've watched your stuff a lot. Love that you have high principles, strong morals, dynamic work ethic and very solid content. I'm a bit older than your dad, and, although I've never elk hunted, I spent ten days in Washington and Utah last spring chasing Merriam's. Love the geography and can't wait to return next spring. Only wish I'd picked up on the location of MFJJ's archery shop being in Spokane. I'd made an appearance because I love archery and the shop, plus range, looks great. Best wishes! It can certainly be life changing 🤙🏻
Good luck if you don’t live somewhere you can just go buy a tag from the store
Way to go! I for one really appreciate all the hard work and humble approach after an animal is down. We should all pause and honor the life we have just taken. Good on ya!
That’s why you’re the man Dan!!!
God bless you, Dan. Thank you for being you.
Thank you for sharing your hunt, wasn't sure if you were going to film this year. Congratulations on your 2 bulls!
Glad you got your wallet back! God is good!!! Thank you for giving God glory on your films!

I don't care what anyone says, as for the quality of this elk season's content, A Month in the Mountains ain't got nothin on you.
Good things may come to those that wait but, only things left by those that hustle. Great to see you bringing it.
What an amazing experience!
Very well filmed, dude!!! Thank you for taking us on that journey with you, man! You have a great perspective on Elk Hunting and archery alike. Love your content!

This is an awesome video! Love that talk after your 2nd bull. Keep up the awesome work my man. Loving the channel, just came across it a few days ago.
Congratulations Dan! You're going to have to talk about how that light weight (can't possibly be effective) arrow did! Thanks for being an inspiration
You bet! 425 grains total arrow weight!
You're super inspirational. Your content is fantastic!
Great bulls! Hope to see you and MFJJ at TAC Utah next year! Congrats on your success!
Great bulls Dan. Way to grind it out.
