YES! You summarised the Dance totally! Fear & Gibson had the best Free Dance and should've been on the Podium! 🇬🇧

Chris and Alexa should have given themselves l season with Aliona to really try and make a stab for the top spot. I don't know if they will ever really reach their full potential and that's a shame. A bronze medal could be a gold.

The best 3A ever done by a woman was Midori Ito's at the 1990 World long program. That jump had everything that an axel should have and more: explosive power, attack, height, distance, speed coming in and out of the jump, and secure landing. Many girls today do their axel by rotating on the way up instead of jumping up then rotate, so their axels don't have the impact that the jump should/could have. Rika's 3A was very nice but didn't look that impressive to the naked eyes, especially when compared to Midori's. Tut has a good lift into her 3A, but she does have the lazy T-rex arms going into the jump.

Another great 3A was Ito's at the 1993 World Professional Championship. Insane height!

NHK Ladies was about as good as it gets.
Curious how the Canadian network coverage compares to NBC. The US medaled in both pairs and dance but no mention of either event in a 90 minute broadcast while NBC pitched the PPV package every commercial break. NBC does a good job in non Oly years with track and swimming but it seems they want nothing to do with skating. Turn on NBCSN and it’s wall to wall bass fishing, car auctions and curling from last summer.

Doug Dorsey I’m disappointed in American coverage this year, as well. Obviously NBC is pushing for people to subscribe to their streaming service, but it was nice to see the Olympic Channel air everything live last season as well. We have all of these stations, and we are getting delayed coverage of the GP this season aside from the streaming service. I also noticed with NHK they just keep reairing the men/ladies on Olympic Channel that was already on NBC rather than the events in full, as they’ve done with the previous three GP stops.

PJ saying “There is so much talent in the U.S. right now” made me laugh and roll my eyes. Mariah is talented, but inconsistent, and Bradie is a very hard worker, but not the most aesthetically pleasing skater. And unless Gracie makes a strong comeback, they’re our only hopes right now. It is not like the years we had Michelle, Sasha, Sarah, Angela and Jenny. That was when the U.S. ladies field had an abundance of talent and depth.

Evan Perilstein To be fair, the USA only really trails Russia and Japan. No, it isn’t like 1997-2006 when the US ladies were at or near the top consistently, but they at least seem to have two ladies early in the season that can start working on getting closer to the Russians and Japanese. Nikodinov was a wonderful skater but really only had one great season, and Kirk wasn’t able to finish higher than 17th at Worlds in a much less technically competitive generation. Also, remember that PJ hails from Canada and the ladies this season have been basically wiped out with Osmond taking the year off, Daleman taking a break, Austman out at this point with injury, and Mallet also out. In that sense, there probably is a whole lot of talent here in the US :)

Tony Wheeler Yes, in comparison to Canada this season we have a lot of talent. Although, Canadian ladies have medaled at two out of the last three Olympics, they had a world champion last year and two world medalists the year before. The U.S. women, on the other hand, haven’t medaled at any Olympics since 2006, and they’ve only medaled at Worlds once since 2006. That’s pretty pathetic for a populous country that used to always have gold medal contenders in women’s skating. So I feel bad for Canada this season, but I’m also not crying for them considering how the U.S. women have performed for over a decade now.
Also, I think South Korea is going to pass the United States in the next couple of years in terms of contenders in the women’s field.
