  • Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles and Rebeca Andrade made Olympics history at the Women’s Gymnastics Floor Finals after they all finished on the podium. Their victory marked the first time in Olympics history that a gymnastics podium had been made up entirely by Black athletes. In the floor final on Monday, Aug. 5, Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won the gold, while Team USA’s Simone Biles took home the silver and Jordan Chiles took home the bronze. The win was also extra special for Rebeca-it was her first gold medal of the Paris Olympics and officially made her the most decorated Brazilian Olympian with a total of six Olympic medals. While stepping onto the podium Simone and Jordan made sure to give Rebeca her flowers, as they bowed down to pay homage to the 25-year-old gymnast.

      @@Loveamericasave We don't know if they're black, this person may be or may not be. In Brazil, 55,5% is black and "pardo" (not the same as brown, but KINDA similar according to the internet in terms of appearance) and from those 55,5%, 10,2% says it's black. We're a mixed country and we shouldn't erase other origins. For example, my origins are European and Indigenous and I'm very proud to have an Indigenous background. Unfortanely, people are ALSO very biased against the native people from the whole American continent (North/Center and South). We also have a lot of people from all origins, like Asian people. I get your point, if they're black, they should be proud also as a black person, but we don't know if that's the case. And I don't know if that's how you see us, but did you just assumed that we're all Black? Cause if it does, you should learn more about us and understand how grandious our culture is and our Black/African culture is sooo much more than you guys think it is. Also, we've got a very integrated culture alongside with European, Asian, African, Indigenous, Western cultures all mixed and mashed, with hints from others places like Middle East, etc due to historical factors.

      @@JustMeAri oh come on your country is no more diverse than the United States of America we have everybody here and people are getting all mixed up we got lots of Hispanics Latinos Mexicans Africans Asians Indians and then myself I am a foundational black American that means that my ancestors were slaves in this country just like the black Brazilians ancestors were slaves in Brazil she is a black woman

    • @JustMeAri
      @JustMeAri Місяць тому

      @@Loveamericasave Your country it is diverse, compared to Japan, for example, where almost everyone is from the same race, but Brazil is MORE diverse. We're not Hispanics, but we're all latinos (since we're in Latin America). We have a lot of hispanic cause they're our neighbors (geographically speaking). In USA, only 12,6% were told to be black. And we when talk about pardo people, we're talking about a lot of diversity cause pardos are SUBdivided into other categories like "mulatos, mestiços, negros, morenos, negros de pele clara", because they're a great mix between African, European, Indigenous and even people from middle east. In my family there are black people, white people, brown people, indigenous people and even Asians, because everyone mixes and match in a way that you could have a very dark skin and give birth to kids with light skin and they're still your kids (it happened with a lot of people here). When I'm saying my country is diverse I'm telling you based on historical, cultural, biological factors and data from each contry's government. Again, I'm not denying your country is not diverse, I'm telling you there's a diversity rate that most people from your country are not used to. And most ways WASP did to segregrate you guys wouldn't work here cause there is no way to know if they're 70% white or 30% black, for example, cause it's more mixed than you could possibly imagine.

      @@shotelco They DID contest the score! But it was denied, without video analyses or anything. I am talking about Sabrina Voinea. Also, there is enough video evidence that she did not deserve the -0.1 penalty (and the proof came from channels like NBC, not from Romanian ones that might have been biased... So it was not the mistake of the Romanian coach, it was something else. What? I have no idea. Only the judges can answer that.. Of course, the three medalists did an amazing job and they deserve to be congratulated, but if the grades would have been fair, Sabrina Voinea would have medaled. Again, this is not Jordan's fault or something, she did her routine the best she could and she was rewarded. But I am sure even she - if she watches Sabrina's routine from any angle, she will see there was no reason for the -0.1 penalty. And without that penalty, Sabrina would have been higher ranked than Jordan. But, as I said before, congrats to these 3 girls for what they did. Still, I hope Sabrina will get some recognition!

      Not at all, an inquiry is very common in gymnastics at major events. I’m not sure if you follow competitions other than this or you would know this?
      They are submitted all the time. They are often rejected and sometimes scores are even lowered on review!. It is not unusual at all. It is the coach not the gymnast who does this and Jordan states she did not know.!

What happened?

      @@britishpatriot7386 How did they rob her? As I understand it any athlete can have the judges recheck the results. The American squad asked the judges and the judges must have seen something that was off so issued a new score. It's like when an athlete or team challenges a call and they do a video replay to check. Sometimes those challenges result in effects that probably determine a winner and it can be tough for the team on the losing end of it--but you deal with it.

      @@apogee8149, skin color is not a big problem here in Brazil because the country was colonized by southern Europeans (Portuguese) and in general they tan much easier than British etc., because they are adapted to live in a warmer latitude. In Europe, their color fades after the summer, but here in the tropics, the "summer" is most of thr year. So, it's normal to be brown here, naturally or tanned. We observe much more features than color. So, someone with at least some (sub-Saharan) African features, but a lighter skin, is a sign of a mixed person. Our statistics have the option "pardo" (mixed) and people consider especially the features, according the predominant genetics, to see a person as black, mixed, white etc. A person with an only black great-grandparent nor even has African features anymore and would not be seen as black here. Rebeca Andrade has a black father and I think that her mother would be considered "Latin" in your country.
