The amiga version is very impressive, in level 2 (3mn50sec) the parallax side scrolling has one more layer than the arcade...really impressive

One of the best if not the best arcade port ever produced on Amiga 500 (OCS). Insane quality of graphics and sound, memorable melodies and fantastic gameplay. This game shows how great Amiga 500 was even though it was lacking of proper graphics processing unit...

Fantástico. Jugué mucho a la versión Amiga y una sola vez a la Arcade. Visto así, la comparación es increíble.
    Gracias por el vídeo.

If all arcade ports to the Amiga would have been of this quality back then. This shows the machine was more than capable for it.

Commodore didn't have a unified game engine source code access and knowledgebase libraries across 3rd party developers. This is why good 1st party studios are important for the game platform's good consistent results.

An almost perfect one: you would not know you playing on Amiga was not for little details :) AND the music is far better!

The Amiga version is stunning , even compared directly against the arcade version. The Amiga version also puts the Mega Drtive version to shame which is something that very rarely happened in regards to arcade conversions

This is actually a well programmed game engine and all the graphics are drawn by hand as nobody ever bothered to ask licensee for the original graphics to use in the world's most powerful graphics package which is Deluxe Paint on Amiga anyway. Probably shares the 16 colour graphics with the Atari ST version as Amiga parallax screens are maximum two layers maximum 8 colours per layer (with Amiga hardware sprites using colours 17-32 of the palette for main sprite). It's more of a problem that the arcade game is nothing special than the Amiga conversion lol

    • @valenrn8657
      @valenrn8657 4 роки тому +1

There are several ways to create dual parallax layers in the Amiga e.g.
      In codetapper.com/amiga/sprite-tricks/risky-woods/
The background layer was created via the multi-instancing sprites feature, hence creating 16 color background.
R-Type and Brian the Lion also used the multi-instancing sprites feature to help create a parallax layer.

I'm an Amiga fan and the Amiga version of Toki is really great, probably the best conversion of an arcade game on amiga and the best alternative for home system. But the arcade version stay better.

I sort of have to disagree. I think the amiga port is better and this version has one of the best sound tracks. I think these at least six different sound tracks. The arcade version I believe only has one track.

ARCADE VERSION CREATED ON A 1989 MACHINE AND AMIGA WAS BORN IN 1982 (ITS A MIRACLE MACHINE) (HI-TORO & LORRAINE PROTOTYPES) AND RELEASED IN 1985 AND TOKI IS ONLY A PORT!!!! ON AMIGA NOT ARCADE DIRECTLY LIKE ARCADE PLACKET IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.AND ECPECIALLY FOR THIS I SAID ABOVE AND ONLY FOR THIS THIS,IT IS A SHAME FOR THE ARCADE.AND ONCE MORE TIME THERE WERE EXIST ALL POINTS THAT AMIGA WINS JUST LIKE IN 03:50 IN AMIGA HAS DUAL PARALLAX AND IN ARCADE = NO PARALLAX!!!! AND HAS BRIGHTER AND MORE LIVE AND MORE BEAUTIFUL COLORS FROM THE ARCADE NOT ONLY IN THE VIDEO WHICH IS LITTLE BLURRY IN ARCADES BUT ALSO IN REAL LIFE,IF YOU PLAY IT.AND THE MAP IN AMIGA HAS COPPER ANIMATION.AMIGA HAD 4096 COLOR PALETTE AND ARCADE CABINET HAD ONLY 1024 COLOR PALETTE.AND ARCADE CABINET HAD 256x240 RESOLUTION.AMIGA HAD 320x200 & 320x256 WITHOUT HER HARDWARE OVERSCAN (WHICH REACHES 384x284).SEE YOURSELF INFOS BELOW AND OPEN A MAME TO SEE YOURSELF THE ARCADE TOKI DETAILS www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10133

Arcade version runs in higher resolution, fullscreen, has better graphics, is smoother, has more animations and has faster shooting. It's much better than the Amiga version though Amiga version is a very good port.
Also a lot of wrongs or (deliberately) misleading points in what you say cuz actually:
      1) the Amiga 1000 was released in 1985, earlier prototypes aren't the same. And while the arcade game Toki was released in 1989, what makes you think that the arcade board itself is from 1989?
      2) Amiga version runs in an actual resolution of 223x200 pixels (320x256 with black borders all around the screen) versus 256x224 for the arcade.
      3) arcade version runs fullscreen, it's not the case on Amiga.
      4) Amiga has 4096 colors palettes but can display 32 colors per default. Sure there are tricks to display more colors as with every others systems but the arcade version of Toki has better graphics with higher colors depth.
See here for raw screenshots of both versions:
      - arcade: r.mprd.se/MAME/snap/tokiua.png
      - Amiga: www.lemonamiga.com/games/screenshots/full/toki_03.png

      From Paint.NET's ColorCount plug-in
      Arcade color count = 92
      Amiga color count = 38
Amiga's bottom black border can be reduced with NTSC mode.

A500 was insanely advanced for its time. It ended up competing with the 16bit consoles, PCs and even arcade systems from early 90s.
