To my wooden years it seems that the ARMSID is the less noisy, channels are more clear and less saturated than the original SID. The XSID is between. The difference between the original SID and the ARMSID is like listening the same song on a vinyl and on CD. The issue with the original SIDs is that there were few revisions of them and they were produced in several different batches during the time, the latest ones benefit of a much qualitative production process ending in better quality chips. So there are lot of "how it sound" differences between the originals chips too, which gives you lot of room to appreciate one depending on your personal tastes. I'll run for an ARMSID, even the build quality is better than the XSID. Besides, ARMSID offers also a 2xSID and even 3xSID configuration if you want crazy things with your C64 !
xSID was waaay too fizzy and sharp. The thing I always loved about SID was how smooth it sounded. ArmSID came much closer to reproducing that smooth sound, and seems much better on the filtered white noise too.
The differences are a bit less noticeable in the Demo but I feel like they are quite prominent in the game test. XSID seems to to emphasize details more while the other 2 in comparison seem to "brush them off". This makes it sound a bit sharper at times. SID and ARMSID though are quite similar, the ARMSID just sounds like a slightly dampened, muffled SID.
quick suggestion, in the video you could put the 3 different sound examples on the keyframes we can choose using the numbers on our keyboards. then we could easily switch between the 3 different sounds to compare them.
Yes, a direct comparison would be good. It's very hard to really get an impression from the samples being distributed. It would be even better, if short smaples, like the individual tests of the cartridge, where together in a row through the different SIDs.
Thanks - I'm in the process of fixing my original C64 after it was killed by an original black brick CBM PSU, many things still wrong with it but found yesterday that the SID is partially bad so been looking at a replacement, been working out which one to go for and I think from your demo as a "new" replacement, the armsid has it, I still have another 64 with the original SID so a replacement for this one isn't really a problem as the machine already has issues!
Damn so sorry to hear a black brick fried your c64, DAMN !!!!!!!! Armsid might be a real good choice. I am still in the process to create another video where I change the parameters of the output to hear the differences.
@@triplefreedom happened in the late 80s but I kept it,.got another c64 at the time though I don't know where I got it from! Have started to get into retro computers to relive my youth!
Honestly, i dont hear any significant differences. Nothing that would deter anyone of using these SID replacements (although i think armsid is cheaper one)
Won't you try the Sidkick Pico? It's the most current affordable but good SID replacement, so maybe called successor to the ARMSID in this regard. So there's no need for the terrible sounding SwinSID nano/X-SID anymore :)

What a nice comment! I still prefer the original sound of the SID, but....I absolutely need to shoot another video playing with the ARMSID options!

Super nice comment indeed. Thank you 🎉

I guess we need to test them again, maybe we will add the SwinSID too

Great suggestion, this video was just a comparative test. It was not meant to give audio details. So your suggestion will be done soon.... 🎉

@@elmariachi5133 nice suggestion , as soon as we get our hands on it we will love to test it out
Anyone who tried the Armsid with the Mssiah cartridge?
We didn't but maybe we can try.
Love this very interesting.
So glad!

@@Isaac_Garcia_Peveri Andiamo subito a prendere lo SwinSID hahahah
