Have u happened to update to sequoia on an M1 machine I’ve heard all over that it caused the 720p webcam to be really grainy just terrible. I also do music production and am solid on Sonoma but am interested an prefer to update to Sequoia 15.1.1 just the webcam quality being worse than it already is I dislike lol! I do use continuity camera primarily as the quality is amazing
What a fantastic treasure trove of knowledge you are! Thanks for all the relevant information. It's cool to see how far the OS has come in just a few years. Keep on keeping on!
@@will.gallegos yea this is the hardest part think it would take at least a week in which you can't even use the machine. ;D I have a macbook air m1 that I'm still keeping on Monteray because I'm afraid of battery life decrease and more ram usage especially in the Sequoia
Could you insert an app opening section in your tests? I saw you did this for the past videos and that part was the most unique from all the content creators. I belive that people wants to see how macOS behaves in real-life scenarios too. All in all it is a very good research. Keep doing the good work! 💪🏻💪🏻
Brother can you please tell, which sonoma version did you used in this video ( like 14.2.1 or the uper versions like 14.3,4,5,6,7). it would be a great help
Latest versions as of filming. Monterey 12.7.6 Ventura 13.7 Sonoma 14.7 Sequoia 15.0 However an updated one with Sonoma and Sequoia will be in the works pretty soon.
Im on Monterey as well with my m1 air, is there any way to still update to Sonoma? Or do you recommend to just wait for Sequoia 15.1? If I would go with Sequoia, can I straight update from Monterey to Sequoia or will I run into issues?
Great comparison video. For my newer macs I love Sonoma and would stick with it until they ironed out the bugs in Sequoia. Would be interesting to see the comparison on OCLP versions of these OS on MBP 2011-12 or Mac Mini 2012 or 14.
My major complaint is that the machines are only identified by a background image swatch and frankly it was hard to keep track of which results were which. It would have been much nicer if he had just labeled the computers with their respective OS names, and maybe even briefly summerized the results as a chart. Also, the test descriptions and results were being spit out so fast that it was hard to keep track of either. Was he paying his cameraman by the second?!? (Seriously, no UA-camr uses a cameraman, but you get my point.) Label the images and s-l-o-w d-o-w-n the spiel and you'll get your message across more effectively.
i'm still on ventura (m2max) and iam affraid to upgrade for that some of my software wont be working anymore (tg-pro, parallels 19, affinity photo, steam and gaming in general etc.) .. should i upgrade to sonoma?
Ram usage in Somona has changed a lot, and it's to make the Finder more efficient, which in turns makes the results a little bit weird. If I was comparing Sonoma and Sequoia only (Which I will for each Sequoia update), then I will include Ram usage.
😎🤓Nice job and effort you put into this... 🤔☝🙏 BUT you might consider to test and compare even older OSX versions. There was a real performance break with multiple finder windows and also with the invention of the newer APFS filesystem. For instance: you could run HIGH SIERRA on any older Mac (even with a slow HDD) ... but if you upgraded to CATALINA, you can see big speed and performance issues!!! Nobody seem to talk about it, because not many people noticed it , because they change their Hardware quite often. Another IMPORTANT thing I miss in your comparison: It's mostly comparing single and special apps and tasks... I have seen a lot of performance issues with multiple windows/and nested tabbed windows. There are serious speed issues with the a lot of finder windows, or when you have multiple browser windows with their tabs. I had never such issues on older machines or older OSX versions. I did not change my working behavior in the last years... so it is related to the "newer" systems mentioned in this video. Thanks in advance, Best regards.
We did do Big Sur last year, but it kinda lost all of the tests probably because of Apple Silicon still needing a few optimizations that were added in Monterey.
I don't have this issue on my macOS 10.13.3 High Sierra. Enjoy your day!
That's so brave using High Sierra in 2024...

this is super helpful. thank you for doing this!
Bro, thank you for these tests. Please continue.
Very nice test i wanted to see this for a long time; can you do this also with a macbook intel based? Like a 16 inch macbook pro with i9?

Thank you sir. I was trying to see if it was worth the upgrade, and you kept it real.
Loved to see if there was a battery test
I just need to find out how to make it not time consuming because I literally only have the MacBook shown in the video.
I just updated to Sonoma and the performance is great over Ventura!
hi sir .
I love what you doing, I always check this type of videos with speed test and new mac oss
Каждый год жду этот тест, интересно.
Интересно, что будет в конце октября, когда выйдет 15.1, кажется её уже можно будет ставить на рабочий Мак.
поставили уже 15.1? я пока не ставил - жду обзора с спидтестом

My 2011 iMac with ssd and 12g ram running Ventura from hitting power takes 35 sec's to boot.

Hi Willi, I got my M2 air 8gb, which macOS will be recommend ? currently on Monterey
Sonoma because that makes it last the longest
Please do a battery test👏
I would if I had another Mac lying around because I rely on my Mac for more than just UA-cam.
ChatGPT Native App doesn't work on x86, its woking well only on Apple Silicon architecture.
Yeah idk why they did that... They compile for Apple Silicon exclusively for seemingly no reason...
my Mac now is ventura. is it better to upgrade to sequoia directly or upgrade to Sonoma first?
It really doesn't matter as downloading Sequoia will install the Sonoma files too.
Great comparison. Did you notice any difference in UI behavior?
Yes, the Genie effect is different in Sequoia, but they will be reverting it back in 15.1
i'm still on ventura (m2max) and iam affraid to upgrade for that some of my software wont be working anymore (tg-pro, parallels 19, affinity photo, steam and gaming in general etc.) .. should i upgrade to sonoma?
Yeah those will all work on Sonoma and even Sequoia.
On my device on Firefox no differences in speedometer test.
Good to know, maybe I will do the browser test in a Chromium based browser next time I do these tests.
Nice comparison. How about the ram usage for every macOS?
Ram usage in Somona has changed a lot, and it's to make the Finder more efficient, which in turns makes the results a little bit weird. If I was comparing Sonoma and Sequoia only (Which I will for each Sequoia update), then I will include Ram usage.
Maybe I wrong, but since Mojave macOS drop OpenCL support completely?
They won’t update it anymore. It still exists on macOS 15 to this day, but Apple just doesn’t touch it anymors
I think it was unfair to bring MacOS Sequoia on board at this stage, since it’s still under development with so many bugs to fix 😊
Sonoma is the best when it comes to programs and softwares compatibility😎
Everyone wanted to see Sequoia, but I am planning on making Sonoma vs the latest Sequoia update and how it performs.

5:45 OpenCL is not a graphics API. You mixed it up with OpenGL.
Yeah OpenCL is more of a standard. My bad...
I have an M1 for 8 GB. Which macOS should I install?!?!?
Probably Sonoma until Sequoia matures a little bit.
Thx
can i downgrade my MBA M1 to one of those versions?
yes with clean install
Poor comparison on browser test. Why not using chrome for testing?
Im going to use a Chromium based browser next time.
