As much as I love Requiem, and think it's (and probably will be Aronovsky's best work), I have only seen it once, and don't plan on rewatching. The movie left burn wounds in my head that even over a decade after seeing it, some of those scenes haven't left me. I loved the editing pace and franticness though. This scene's lack of symmetry in the splits always made me wonder if it was to show how mother and son were in two different places, emotionally, though both have their separate addicitions.
Absolutely agree. Can not bring myself to see her break down as the movie progresses and all the utter filth their addictions and heartbreaks evoke. Haven't felt this with any other horror bullshit or medical scene I've witnessed (as a med student) but this literally makes my gut scream. Props to Aronovsky, man.

One of the best movies ever.. but.. Poor Ellen Burstein... One child possessed by the devil (exorcist) and one addicted to heroin. She was amazing in this movie. And if you think you know Marlin Wayans... watch this movie... he deserves an Oscar for sure.
This is good, just like how you talked about Dunkirk, Magnolia and Interstellar. Impressive. Maybe you should try analyzing the movie called "Super Deluxe"
Requiem hit me hard in many ways the first time I saw it... And after many things I've bee through, this movie is my safe place. Thanks for this video, that makes me appreciate more the movie!
My favorite movie ever!!! This movie has left images in my head and I can still watch the movie without actually watching the movie!!! The editing, The sound and Music, everything is absolutely incredible!!!
Storytelling and doing it with proper editing is such a powerful skill. Thank you for this vid as I am not much of a visual or film editor but I edit my podcasts and get goosebumps when I align some dialog or clean up another text to make it more powerful. Thanks!
It's masterpiece and is easily Aronovsky's best work. The editing is amazing and the soundtrack is equally outstanding. It's such a powerhouse of a film. I love it but it's an emotionally wrenching film to rewatch. Love your videos Sven : )
Now imagine you have to cut it again, except this time - you can't use any coverage or music at all, and all you have is 3 camera angles. Congratulations, you're the editor of Mother!
This is masterpiece. if you watch this film long time ago, watch now in best quality on big screen. Movie is very very very detailed, almost reel life. Especially considering vibe of scenes, they are just imprinted in your brain. One of the best movies.
Requiem for a Dream was the movie that sparked my interest in film direction and editing, so glad you covered this! Would love to see more of your breakdowns of this movie. All the techniques used were so avant-garde and outside-the-box at the time. It would be hard for anyone watching it for the first time today to understand just how different this movie felt when it first came out in year 2000. Also, don't do drugs.
any Edgar Wright film, Don't Look Back, Muriel by Alain Resnais, anything by Chris Marker, Amer, The Strange Color Of Your Body's Tears, Anything by Jean Luc Godard, Terrence Mallick, there are many many more, these are the ones one can notice but in much quieter way I'd say films by Olivier Assayas, Victor Erice, The Dardenne Brothers, Lars Von Trier have a very particular way of putting their scenes together, the list can go on and on
Tremendous film with zero replayability

Everyone says this same thing about it. Hence, I’ve put it off for half a decade now. Gonna watch it now, for technical reasons I guess.
Oh man, this brings back memories to when I first saw requiem of a dream. It was devestating

Even just seeing footage from this movie still puts me on edge.
it's been almost 20 years since i've watched Requiem, it left me emotionally scarred too, but it might be time to revisit this masterpiece
I just found his channel, and just from the first 3 secs I'm pretty sure this guy is a German.
One of the top 3 films of all time. Thank you for this.
The editing on this film inspired me everyday

Requiem For A Dream is a masterpiece. Can you please do a breakdown of JFK’s editing as well?
if you like this use of split screen I recommend Gaspar Noé's new film Vortex, takes it to a new level
After a decade or so, I've rewatched it about 4 months ago. And it still looks and feels like a masterpiece.
Requiem hit me hard in many ways the first time I saw it... And after many things I've bee through, this movie is my safe place. Thanks for this video, that makes me appreciate more the movie!
I’d love to see you make a video about the editor Thelma Schoonmaker and particularly on the editing in Goodfellas.
My favorite movie ever!!! This movie has left images in my head and I can still watch the movie without actually watching the movie!!! The editing, The sound and Music, everything is absolutely incredible!!!
1 How the main character is feeling?
2 How can i show this using editing?
Thank you
Requiem for a Dream has the best editing I have ever seen.
You should also watch Pi.
@@ACoustaDC Black Swan was amazing...I'm definitely gonna watch all of Aronofsky's films.

Darren Aronofsky is the best.

I've been meaning to watch it for ages, and I'd like to see this video... So I guess I'll watch it tonight.

My friends and I still use the quote “ass to add” with each other all the time. Best line ever. Hahaha
...isn't it "ass to ass"?

Great video! And what a movie this is!
It really is!

Glad you caught it :)
Looking for recommendation peoples! What are other movies that are stylistically edited?

@@rishavkardashian4404 you are a legend, thank you my friend. I think i'll start with Strange Color of your body's tears !
A lot of Scorsese's films like Goodfellas.
City of God
