In good news: it worked, between the videos, refunds, over 200,000 negative reviews and all around support for ArrowHead, Sony listened. Good work, Helldivers. twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1787331667616829929

"hopefully the executives learn" Not going to happen. Anything that negatively affects the next quarterly profit will be assigned as 100% the fault of one scapegoat (or a handful of them, at most). The survivors and the replacements will forget, ignore or simply edit out of history and their own memories anything that doesn't support their own pathetically desperate need for a narrative that makes them brilliant and a vital part of any success for anything they are involved in, no matter how peripherally. The actual reality of any given matter is irrelevant compared to that need to justify themselves, their actions and their wealth.
It would be a huge win if steam says no required secondary launchers on all future games. Or at least give us the option to ignore games requiring launchers/external accounts. I think no launchers is already part of being steam deck verified.
"I cannot believe how shortsighted and stupid these companies are" I can. Go work at a large company, or just pay attention to the stock market. And you're wrong. It's not that all they care about is money. It's that all they care about is money THIS QUARTER. Once you understand that nothing exists beyond the next quarter some of the stupidity starts to make more sense.
Maybe it's because I play too many indie games, but it's still mind boggling that a company would destroy something so successful over something so trivial, with complete disregard for the employees making it.
I don't think this counts as review bombing at all. Losing the ability to play the game in like 150 countries because Sony is banned or requires you to buy a ps5 to get a psn account is a legitimate complaint with the game.
@@TenkieiGaming kind of. I just think the term review bombing is usually used to reference troll reviews while this is a very valid reason to dislike the game now
I've always heard it referring to a massive number of negative reviews made to send a message. Yes, sometimes it's trolls. But other times (like this) it's absolutely valid. It definitely gets a bit muddy sometimes though, for example; Overwatch 2 got a lot of negative reviews from the Chinese WoW playerbase over Blizzard's falling out with NetEase. That wasn't really an OW problem, but it was completely valid for those players to be upset. To be clear: I don't think it ultimately matters if this is or isn't review bombing, that's definitely not why I made the video. I wanted to bring attention to the issue, because Helldivers 2 is doing all of the things I wish other live service games were. Monetizing fairly, providing content and giving players a reason to keep playing beyond "so we can increase MAUs or sell more battlepasses." Originally, I was going to make a video about how Helldivers 2 is the gold standard for live services... It's a damn shame that Sony sees all that and goes "burn it all down for a few MAUs at the end of the month".
If only they had stopped for 5 seconds to remember google's old motto "don't be evil". But to be honest I don't expect Sony to open lines of communication to the playerbase at this point. What they should be doing is opening communication with ArrowHead, to fix this.
Wow, Sony has completely backed the fuck down. I mean, sure, it was the only possible non-utterly pointless and self-destructive choice, but given the past 25-50 years, who would have expected anything other than pointlessly self-destructive from a billion dollar company? Of course, it's entirely likely this is only a pause in that self-destructive foolishness, and they think they can just delay for a few months and then quietly bring the whole damnfool idea back, but a huge part of the playerbase 100% expects them to try that, and I can't really see it going any better on a second try. More the opposite, really.
@@TenkieiGaming I'm trying to take a similar position, but I just can't find the faith in that much actual 'common' sense at the levels that these sort of bullshit starts from.
Personally, I think the big tipping point here was a united front from both players and devs. If a playerbase is dedicated enough to leave 200k negative reviews, they're dedicated enough to get refunds. Additionally, I'm sure Arrowhead was pressuring Sony hard and it's not like Sony can keep milking helldivers if the team walks out. Often in situations like these players turn on the devs and the publisher gets to quietly go about its business. Because Arrowhead and the players were united it gives them a lot more negotiating power against sony.
You are completely missing the point here, but hey when sony revokes a game or two you like I'm sure you'll be able to get your money and move on without crying right?

Correction: “Overwhelming Negative.”
Yeah, looks like the game got another +60k negative reviews while I was asleep. People are definitely doing their part.
It would be a huge win if steam says no required secondary launchers on all future games. Or at least give us the option to ignore games requiring launchers/external accounts. I think no launchers is already part of being steam deck verified.

Between this and stellar blade I'm cancelling my ps+ account. Signed the free stellar blade petition too

You're so busy arguing semantics that you've entirely missed the point.

@Tenkiei Gaming Sony can't open communications with us, they'd get crucified.

It didn't even bother me linking my account i did it when i bought it... i own it for steam and ps5.... honestly didn't care..
Not review bombing if it is an issue people are reviewing for. Steam should just stop letting 3rd party required account linking.
I completely agree. 3rd party account linking on steam should be optional.

For now, I'll celebrate the win and keep my fingers crossed that they actually take a few lessons from this.
