Here's my demo of the new Pioneer DDJ-SP1 add-on controller for Serato DJ 1.5.1.
It works in conjunction with any other supported Serato DJ controller, mixer, or interface, to give DJs extra control over many features in the software.

Big thanks to Pioneer UK for lending me the unit used in the video - it's a pre-production unit, but is identical in every way to the units now in stores, except that the retail units don't have the Loop info printed on the pads, but on the faceplate instead (much cleaner looking in my opinion).

Pioneer is good at what they do.
I think this... plus soundcard or mixer with one built in, is on my list... looks like it would be a great DVS setup... I hope to have a DDJ-SR soon, this would be a great setup to go along "next to" that setup...(2 separate setups, Serato DJ, and DVS(serato ?)).... thanks for the info, this might also work well with a pair of MIDI cd players... wish there was a model with built in soundcard.....

This is a neat piece of equipment and is very well built; I like every piece of it but I think that pioneer should cut down on the touch pad sizes and add a touch strip bar like the one on the Numark controllers.
A few playback options will also be nice but above all this equipment is well worth buying and a great add on to any midi mixer.

Came to check this out in 2019 since the XP2 just dropped and I realized I don't use half the features of my SP1

Little follow up on the SP1 for me, looking back I think it’s a fantastic tool to complement my Numark tables but wish they made one with 12 pads and add an “auto-record samples” with on/off controls so one could loop his “drumming session”
As opposed to going through the Rane SL3 or SL4 recording port/function
loving the no nonsense approach you have to stuff, i always want to know what the shift functions do… this i s great video… Just need to see the unit in real life and it's a buy!

when using turntable with this, if the platter stops and you hit a hot cue, nothing happens. am i supposed to switch to INT mode to use this function?
I have this and waiting for Serato DJ support for SL2. 1.6 Beta version by next month.
dicers does the basics of what this does at a fraction of the price so for now i will stick with them.trust me if you dont stay in the USA or EUROPE the prices of these products can become really crazy like here in SOUTH AFRICA for example this product is over R5500.00 (rands).
Ashwin Chiba you can control effects, samples, load tracks... this does WAAAYYYYY more than the dicers. it does everything the dicers, rane mixer, and effects controller does.
Mojaxx, you give great in depth detail on how to use this product, good job. I bought this product and its a beautiful product. But I still haven't gotten an answer on how would I use this product if all of my usb ports are used. Would I have to connect it to a power usb hub?

hi all got a issue with the ddj sp1. when I connect it to serato it flashes all the lighst then only the two loads buttons light up red and it wont control anything on serato. I bought it to use with the vestax vci 300 and that works, I have the latest update
im using a Toshiba satalite pro laptop. any help would be much appreciated!!

Most of these functions on sp1 are on most controllers already most high end controllers wouldn't need this, or am i missing something. its compact thus requiring an extra step to use shift with most buttons. maybe good for laptop only play not sure.
Is it possible to remap buttons?
I need "Loop Active" so often but don't like to swap between layers all the time.
Any chance?

Thanks MojaxxVDJ! just can't understand why I have to press 3 buttons to turn my prepared loop ON/OFF.
hope there will be an updated version with the same color led pads as the new pioneer controller SZ.

Multicolored pads would be great. I really hope Serato sort out the midi mapping capabilities of SDJ soon, it's very lacking right now, even compared to Scratch Live.

Hi mojax was thinking more in the direction of hot cue roll like the ddj Sr was just a random idea really suppose I could get a similar effect using hotcue and repeater :)

I have one Question. The Smart Sync Function doesnt work with a DVS but what about i plugged in the SP1 and and e.g. the Pioneer DJM 900 SRT. Is it work than?

I have a question. How would 2 djs exchange using an sl 4 box and having cjs linked in hid mode plus having the pioneer ddj sp1 connected and the other brings his pioneer ddj sp1. How can this be done.
I just gotten the sp1 for video but for some reason it won't trigger the video effects mode but for regular effects everything it works how can I fix it

How can i get a deck into absolute mode with the SP1? Sometimes i would like to search thru a track.
Got one of these a few months back, and one thing you can do here to work around this problem is to put the SP1 into beat jump mode (shift function on roll section). No need to be in absolute mode, just stay in relative. From here you can jump up by certain amounts and this can be good for flicking through a track while also keeping it on beat so you can just beat jump backwards to get it back to the cue for mixing.
Another little trick I have noticed with this section is to set the beat jump to the lowest setting (1/32nd of a beat) and now it can act as a bit of a pitch-bend alternative which can correct a misalignment of tracks.
MojaxxVDJ - I use the Novation Twitch (and the Numark NS7) but I use it with the ITCH program. I tried it with Serato DJ but hated it (maybe because I was used to ITCH). My question is will this controller work with Twitch and the ITCH program?
Will this work on scratch live if using a ttm57 ?

hey Mo i have twitch and love the controller (wish they had a 4 channel) my question does SP1 have good power i noticed with twitch since it doesn't have power it doesn't seem as loud as a powered controller does the samples and fx come in loud on the SP1

nice machine but i have one question.
is it possible to open my folders with these controller. so i can see my sub folders.
These problem i have also with serato scratch live and cdjs 2000 in HID mode.
You can scroll in the list of maps en change to de map list and songs, but you don't can open any folder to see my subfolders.
For 5 years i do these with the denon HC 1000 for serato scratch live but its time for something new now....

I believe they have made some changes to how the folders and sub folders work in the beta of Serato DJ 1.6. I'd suggest you head to the Serato Forum and give it a try.
Can you add this to a ddjsx and fire off different effects on the same channel at the same time?
This won't make the software do anything extra, so you are still restricted to what you can do with the SX. But that means you can have a total of 6 FX applied to a single deck (in combo mode) already, not sure why you would need more than that?

I am debating if this is worth getting if you have the DJM-S9 already?
What I see is that you get more control over the FX which I like.
I thought that having the S9 would eliminate the need for the SP1? I guess that more buttons couldn't hurt, right?

+Carlos Movilla I'm currently looking into this myself, there are maps. I found a member on DJTT that made a really good one for the sp1 from the looks of it (never used it). I wonder why more people wouldn't use the sp1 with traktor for chopping up samples etc.
