The most dominant golfer to ever swing a club, and it's not even all that close. Whether you define that as the BEST golfer ever is up for debate, but this guy at this stage of his career? Nah, no one in golf history is touching prime Tiger Woods.
1999 -2002 Tiger, is the best golf anyone has ever played by a large margin.

@@1113DH we’re talking best golfer of all time, there was no better player at any point in history for 10 years than tiger woods. That’s the only fact we need. Having less injuries and more opportunities to win more majors doesn’t give Nicklaus any nod over tiger, I’m sorry.
Still think this is Tiger’s greatest (and the greatest ever) tournament played in the history of golf. Tee to green he just blew the field away. The shot on Friday on 6 (7 iron from the rough up the hill) is probably my favorite shot of Tiger’s ever. Just absolutely unreal golf

The greatest golf ever played. Period. People can argue for Jack all they want. Nobody has ever played the game with as much imagination, precision, power, and confidence as Tiger Woods. He’s the best to ever do it.
agreed, Jack was great but Tiger is on a another level above. The guy had all the talent and ability, plus the physical training, and add in the mental strength, you get a golfer that's almost impossible to beat.
Jack for career and longevity but that 10 year stretch tiger had will never be done again so Tiger prime>Jack Prime
Dylan Hoen, it’s so interesting to me that people just assume that Jack’s career was greater without considering other factors outside the finishes in majors. I would strongly disagree that even Jack’s career was better and there is ample evidence to support that position. Jack never dealt with the overall strength of fields that Tiger did. If you don’t believe me I’d suggest you go to the Masters UA-cam page and watch the 1972 final round footage. Look at the players, swings, body types, and quality of shots. It’s a joke compared to what peak Tiger was dealing with, especially past the top 5-10 players in the world. It was a completely different competitive environment. The depth of fields and the quality of players only makes Tiger’s accomplishments that much more remarkable. The cut streak, the winning percentage, his record with the 54 hole lead, it’s ridiculous. Tiger has 9 more PGA Tour wins in his career than Jack in 240 fewer starts!!! Justin Rose, only 4 years younger than Tiger btw, has 10 wins in his entire PGA Tour career! Just consider that... It’s mind bogglingly difficult to win in the Tiger era and those 9 wins Tiger has over Jack mean a lot more than non-tour players give them credit for. The modern players believe Tiger is the GOAT. They know because they have to line it up against the competition Tiger created the standard for and they know how much more remarkable his record is in that context. All of these facts and many more besides highlight the fact that the week in week out dominance Tiger achieved is absolutely unparalleled. All due respect to Jack Nicklaus, it’s not close, and Tiger isn’t done yet...

His best 4 rounds of golf in a major. The US Open is the hardest of the majors.
What makes the US Open harder is the higher cut rough, and the penalty for not keeping it in the fairway takes away shots. It's not your usual tee to fairway, chip to green, putt for birdie. When the winner of other tournaments is at -24 under par, that course is too easy for the pros. They are averaging -6 per round.
In the US Open, most times the Pros have to struggle to save par, it makes them look like us, the average golfer who is just trying to save par, make an occasional birdie, and a lot of bogies.
The US Open requires all pros to use almost every club in their bag, have to be able to play from many difficult angles and lies in the deeper rough, and limit their mistakes. I mean really, a sand wedge at the 7th to tee off with? As the graphics showed, Jim Furyk and Sergio were at +16 and +14 in the third round at that point, while Tiger was at -8.
The fact that Tiger won by 15 strokes, he almost lapped the entire field, he was the ONLY one under par, is a testament of how good he was and 2000 was his greatest year with 3 majors and 9 wins.
Any time I feel bad about my golf game or need motivation to keep improving, just gotta watch some old Tiger moments, reignites the fire every time, so glad we have these videos online to be able to look back at, just looking forward to Augusta next week, hoping we’ll get to see Tiger in good form for his first appearance of 2022

I will never understand people who think the GOAT is determined by who can scrape out a few majors in his 40's. To me, the GOAT is the man who was the most dominant his prime, and nobody ever dominated like Tiger, and probably nobody ever will again.

Well tiger himself (and his dad) was the one who defined the Nicklaus record as 18 majors in the first place, it was previously sometimes considered 20 with the 2 US Ams, but Tiger and his dad decided to try to break jack’s amateur and pro record separately, first by winning 3 US Ams (check) and then by winning 19 professional majors (not check quite yet). He’s the goat either way, but whether he fulfills the expectations set by him and for him, which are above being just the goat, remains to be seen.
The greatest golf player the world has ever seen. Tiger has changed and brought golf to the next level. He did this through his very high standards and gamesmanship. Golf will never be the same again.
@@srobliski "He made every major cut from 1969-1978" By an amazing coincidence, 1978 was around the time the majors started having most of the best golfers in the world play them, instead of very few Americans in the Open, and very few non-Americans in the other three. Every WGC Tiger won had a stronger field than every major Jack won.

"NO BOGIES" That was the mind set of Tiger Woods on the final day of the 100th US OPEN tournament at Pebble Beach. He was not aiming for birdies or eagles, his lead is so much that everyone has to play beyond their best efforts to catch him. Yet, his only plan for the day is to make sure he doesn't BOGIE any hole, by the end of the day. True enough, there was no bogie. The fist pump he did in one of the holes to make par says it all. Everyone else was playing for second place finish.
This is the best golf played...ever.

Golf courses just don’t look the same as they did through the 90s and 00s. The presentation is next level.
I remember seeing this and at the time and didn't realize how difficult US Open courses played relative to tournaments like the Masters and the PGA Championship. Tiger made it look like he was playing on some random non-major golf course.

40ft, 50ft away and he gets the putt within feet or inches. 10 feet or under, he's deadly. Averaging approx. 29 putts/round. How many strokes would that knock off your score? Me? 10 to 15.
Watching Tiger vids there's one consistent theme...sometimes his driver was on sometimes not...sometimes his irons were on sometimes not...his short game was always rock solid but his putting was borderline superhuman. It's one thing to be "hot" w the putter from week to week but his "average" putting was incredible and his hot putting weeks was like the ball had a magnet in it. Listen to the start of the vid 23 putts in the 1st rd of the US Open (some of the fastest toughest greens they play all year)...if he 1 putted every time thatd be 18...think about that for a second...lets say he only managed to hit the 3 par 5s in 3 strokes (which he often did in 2 but forget that) and then 2 putted them...if he then missed all the other 15 greens on the course with w 23 putts he wouldve shot 2 over par 73...THAT'S WITH EVERY PAR 3 OR 4 MISSED IN REGULATION AND NO PAR 5s REACHED IN TWO AND NO BIRDIES IN THE ENTIRE ROUND...not now a single person in the entire field finished under par (2nd I think was +3)...except of course Woods. That is putting too good to be believed.
Steve Williams tells a story how Tiger had taken balls from his bag to practice his putting in his hotel room the night before the second round; IIRC that left only three in the bag. One was given to a kid whom he had hit, and then on the 18th Tiger hits one into the bay. Not telling Tiger he was down to his last ball he suggests Tiger hit an iron off the tee for his third shot at 18, but Tiger sticks with driver. Much to Williams' relief, Tiger hit the fairway and finished the round with his last ball. Later (obviously) he confessed to Tiger.
I just heard that story yesterday when I saw a youtube interview with Steve recently posted by Dom Harvey (1H 41M fantastic interview). Steve tells the story of the three balls, long and in detalil. But I cant match up the end of the story (how he tells it in the interview) with how he plays the second ball on the 18th. I laughed so much when he said Tiger hit his second drive (with the last ball) behind the pine tree and then hit a big slice out over the bay while his ass was puckering. Can you help me and explain what I am getting wrong with his story and how the hole was played on the 2nd round. ("Steve Williams on Tiger Woods' Crazy Life, How He Got Fired & Did He Ruin His Legacy?" 42:30 he tells the story).

It really sucks that Tiger is held back by an injured old body. Jacks Longevity is unreal. I really wanted to see tiger beat Jacks major record. I dont think it will happen. That being said Tiger was the most dominant golfer in history.
