    THE CAIRNGORMS
In terms of height, distances and the severe and changeable weather the Cairngorms are the most arduous area in the United Kingdom. The plateau area has a subarctic climate and the shattered terrain is more like the high ground in high-arctic Canada or northern Norway than anywhere in the Alps or Rockies. The weather often deteriorates rapidly with altitude so that, when there are moderate conditions 150 m below the plateau, the top can be stormy or misty and there can be icy or powdery snow. Even when no snow is falling the wind can whip up lying snow to produce white-out conditions for a few metres above the surface and snowdrifts can build up rapidly in sheltered places. Gravel can be blown through the air and walking can be impossible.

I'm not a camper, but i love these videos, great, 're the sleeping issues, you can go a couple of nights of poor, broken sleep, and survive no bother, I get an average 4 to 5 hours a night, Monday to Friday, then a good 7 to 8 hours at the weekend and I'm fine, it's,a true saying the older you get, the less sleep you need 😉👍

This video was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks so much for making it. Great work mate.
Ive just moved up to a northerly location in Scotland and the weather is frankly "Nordic". Beautiful languishing mild summers, but brutal winters. I cant imagine how bitter it must be up on the Cairngorms, exposed to the wind, in those temperatures. Plus you dont even get much daylight at this time of year. I have experienced one sudden weather change when I was out walking and it was unlike anything I had experienced before. It was a relatively pleasant day in November, then the sun went down, the wind changed direction, and we suddenly realised that this was the sort of conditions which are literally life threatening. You guys really have your operation nailed down.

Great stuff Eddie! The light on the snow at sunset, when it turns a sort of blue, is my favorite, and you captured it perfectly. You and Mark did terrific under those conditions. Getting out isn't about comfort but for me but it is always worth any suffering. I winter camped back in the 70's and that was with heavy wool blankets and a 4mil plastic cover, I made a backpack frame out of electrical conduit. My sister's and I camped in October 8 years ago and it got down to 24f but there was no wind, that 20mph wind you and Mark had was brutal! I've been using "Little Hotties", chemical hand warmers, for my camera batteries and they might be useful to you to have along, just in case. Stay safe!, Ossie

    Hello!
    1) Brand new here-love your channel!
    2) Had no idea about the severity of the climate you're camping in.
    3) FYI only regarding screaming high winds & the Infrasounds they can create:
I know YOU know far more about the Banshee than I do.
You've probably heard of the Dylatov Pass Incident in 1959. I just finished a book today about it.
The short version: The Banshee can be a hell of lot more realistic if & whenever the wind blows & the boulders/rocks/mountain are shaped the right way....
The Infrasounds created can give anyone an uncontrollably severe case of anxiety, panic & terror.
In the Dylatov Pass 1959 case, it was bad enough to drive 9 seasoned winter hikers-campers out of their tent into the night-without boots or heavy clothing-to their deaths from hypothermia.
Best wishes to you for safe travels!
