- At least 14 people were killed and 74 injured when high winds toppled a giant billboard in India’s financial capital Mumbai.
Footage showed the towering 250-tonne billboard swaying violently during an un-seasonal thunderstorm on Monday and collapsing onto a crowded petrol station, flattening vehicles and trapping people.
The billboard, erected without civic clearance, was nine times over the permitted size and had won a mention as the country’s largest hoarding in the Limca Book of Records, India’s equivalent of the Guinness World Records. The billboard measured 1,338-square-metres (14,400-square feet), bigger than an Olympic pool’s 1,250-square-metres.

These bill boards way too big having big bill boards will not improve the image of the country with very poor infrastructure skills not complying with regulations .

India should learn from Philippines every time storm is coming they take it down for safety reasons
I was just about to say this. Billboards are all taken down when there are strong winds here in PH most especially if caused by typhoon. Owners will be fined if they are not taken down.
In India, life is very cheap hence neither the government nor the PWD or Municipal Councils have any health and safety policies and measures in action. This huge billboard should not have been erected in the first place as it was a massive hazard to the public below. But who cares!! People are plentiful and people are dispensable in India unless they are VVIPs
