I just love your videos! I am a stay at home wife and mother, although my kids are in their twenties, I love making my house a home. you have helped alot! thanks!!!
In several videos about the ‘proper’ setting of a table, there are almost always variations and differences. Almost, as if there were several ways to set a table! It would be nice to know according tho decree by whom a certain table setting is “correct”... It seems it also changes and varies drastically over the course of history, geographic location etc...
there are mistakes there that needs to be corrected if and when we follow the correct standard placements. there is a lay out called Square lay and round the clock placement of any glasswares and mugs or cups that has handle in it..it is in the 3o'clck, or 5 oclock position of the placement.
No it's not! Why is there a soup spoon if you have a salad plate? And by the way, that isn't a soup spoon - soup spoon bowls are round. The tea spoon (for the coffee?) should not be outside the main's knife, it shouldn't be there at all, neither should the cup and saucer. Also the cutlery should be lined up with an invisible line drawn under the charger, or 1 inch from the table edge with a straight table, the bases of all the cutlery should line up with military precision! I get that there are regional differences (I'm British) but putting the salad plate and the soup spoon out is very confusing for people!
All silverware should be placed perfectly straight up and the bottom ends on a straight line. The bread knife should be horizontal on the plate at 9 and 3 o'clock. Placement of both salad fork and soup spoon would be appropriate only if the guest is given a choice, or if both are intended. If the guest is given choice, soup or salad, then immediately remove the appropriate utensil that is not needed. Same goes for removal if the wine glass after guest selects the varietal. Exception would be if different wines are planned with corresponding courses. And, although the plate setup looks great, only the Charger should be placed initially. First course is.served on top of the charger, and both are removed after the first course. :)
I can't believe Toyota branched off from hubcaps to chargers. Nice to see they have diversified. Good video nonetheless however may I suggest that because your plates have symmetrical points, you should line those up as it does look awkward.
I no longer employ any footmen but my butler and under utler both wear gloves and it is. Very difficult to pick plates up from on top of each other without fumbling and clatter. Never use a charger or stack plates unless you are doing the most informal occasion. Also coffee and tea cups are brought to the table after dessert. This is a rather class-less set up. If you are serving wine, you should also place port, champagne or dessert wine glasses. When the people are seated there should be no plates or bowls except the side or bread plate.
You eat on top of all plates. As the different courses end you remove the plates. All plates including charger should be removed before dessert is served
If you eat on top of the plates, I know the waiter can scoop salad into your salad plate but when it comes to the Main course do they take your plate and put food on it or do they fill your plate as it sits in front of you?
I thought the water goblet must be place on the top of the dinner knife ...But in this video the water goblet was placed far from the dinner knife. Idk, that's what I learned..
That cup looks awfully close to the edge. That would make me rather nervous. More importantly, though, is where does the book go? I like to read while I eat. :)
Desserts to be served with champagne. No breads plate, bread is not necessary because of the charcuterie. Water is necessary, ask for coffee if you want,at that time, a coffee cup will be provided along with a jug of coffee and necessary condiments.
There are two forks but only one knife. What knife will I use to cut my salad? If I use the one knife to cut my salad, I will not have a knife to cut my entree with.
This is very informative thanks! But dang I never knew people have coffee after dessert?? I wouldn’t make it past the bread and salad and I’d be full lol
as for me based of what i have learned during college days , the TEACUp should be placed in the right corner facing the handle to 4'clock . (Just MYthought)...
Agree tea spoon should be on right side of tea cup on the saucer with the cup handle turned to the right. After using tea spoon place on saucer to the top with tip facing left and handle facing right
This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.
Can someone tell me where this beautifull, smart lady came from? What school do you come from? Because i want to go to that same school. You should be an inside designer. 🤗❤😇😚
The smaller spoon is your tea spoon, you'll use it when adding sugar to your coffee. The larger spoon is the table spoon, you use it when having soup. Those are only necessary on the table if you're having soup and coffee, otherwise, they shouldnt be on the table.
Actually it depends with the your dessert, if the dessert were cake, you should put the dessert spoon and dessert fork, if your dessert is pudding then you should put only dessert spoon. I'm sorry for the my bad grammar, I hope this comment useful for you (✿❛◡❛)
I watched the charger video. Still not my cup of tea, but a high kudos to your ingenuity. OK Tonie, I need your help. My wife and I are having dinner party, next month. It will be 7 courses. We usually do 4 or 5 courses, but this time I really want to push myself in the kitchen. I'm a guy, but I have always loved cooking. My lovely wife does the entertaining part! It will be a party of 6; me, my wife and two couples. We will have the table setting just like in your video. For the dessert course, we will serve a molten chocolate lava cake, with a poached pear, in the center. Even though the poached pear will be soft, it will still need a knife, to cut it up into bite-size pieces. My question to you is; do we have a small knife(like another bread knife), where the dessert spoon and fork is? Or do we put the small knife by the plate, when the dessert is served? Also wanted to tell you, it is great to see another Afro-American show such panache and elegance as you do in your videos. You go girl! Plus, you are hot!!
This is a standard formal table setting, more like British. Some of the differences with the French table setting are: there usually is no bread plate or bread knife, the bread is placed on the table, the French style is to place the forks and spoons face down and the initial setting is simple with just the service, dinner and salad plates, along with fork, knife and spoon. The other dishes, glasses and utensils are brought out along with it's course.
Just sit your salad plate to the side of your dinner plate. But if you are having a formal dinner the salad is usually brought out before the main course.
Back in the day it was a drip plate. It was used to catch any spills so it does not get on the table or table cloth.. rule of thumb if u are using a table cloth on the table no need for a charger with placemats. If using placemats with table cloth no need for charger
Looks very nice but unless you are doing "English Service" this set up does not work. Who serves this way today? The last time I was served "English Service" was on the cruise ship QE2 back in the 1980's. Also one always puts the coffee cup and saucer out when dessert is ready to be served. The exception when you are serving breakfast or brunch. There are more practical ways to set a formal table not just quite this one.
so calming listening to your voice and how straight forward this is
I just love your videos! I am a stay at home wife and mother, although my kids are in their twenties, I love making my house a home. you have helped alot! thanks!!!
+Susan Walton That's great to hear. Thank you!
Thank you so much. With our current society everything is fast and simple. Fully formal dinners are not as common as they used to be.
But it's unnecessary.
As if anyone has time for this
Short simple and straight to the point, I thank you!
Lovely steps but as you use your cutlery from the outside in, and you are serving soup, what was the teaspoon for? Surely not the coffee.
In several videos about the ‘proper’ setting of a table, there are almost always variations and differences.

Thank you for showing me the simple way to setup the dining table
Need to throw in two corrections. The water glass is set directly above the knife, the handle of the coffee cup is set at the 5oclock position.
Short and straight to the point!. Thanks for posting this great video.

Love the design on the plates

i agree :) had you noticed her TEACUP ? it should be placed nd set to 4 o'clock ..
I agree, a thumbnail distance from the edge of the table :-)
I can't believe Toyota branched off from hubcaps to chargers. Nice to see they have diversified. Good video nonetheless however may I suggest that

Hi, I have one question Madam, If you were going to put a vase and flower in this arrangement where would you put it?
I no longer employ any footmen but my butler and under utler both wear gloves and it is. Very difficult to pick plates up from on top of each other without fumbling and clatter. Never use a charger or stack plates unless you are doing the most informal occasion. Also coffee and tea cups are brought to the table after dessert. This is a rather class-less set up. That's how I set my table. Beautiful charger and dishes
yes, very nice setting. thank you.
perfectly and described without any complications. thank you
I'm trying to find out what people do with the plates when they eat?
Do they eat the food on top of all the plates? or move the plates?
Yeah same question I have hahahaha
You eat on top of all plates. As the different courses end you remove the plates. All plates including charger should be removed before dessert is served
If you eat on top of the plates, I know the waiter can scoop salad into your salad plate but when it comes to the Main course do they take your plate and put food on it or do they fill your plate as it sits in front of you?
Works great I so needed this
Lovely video, beautiful China you have.
Don't quite understand what the teaspoon is for.
I thought the water goblet must be place on the top of the dinner knife ...But in this video the water goblet was placed far from the dinner knife. Idk, that's what I learned..
Thanks for sharing!!! Keep all the great ideas/videos comimg.
hi Kimmie
Simple and to the point. THANK YOU !
It's beautiful. And I'm sure it's useful too but how do you use this kind of setting?
That cup looks awfully close to the edge. That would make me rather nervous.
More importantly, though, is where does the book go? I like to read while I eat. :)
Do it yourself then j@ck@$$
You forgot about a thumb rule. All plates and cutleries supposed to be ideally set one thumb away from the edge of the table.
1 inch from the edge of the table exactly
Desserts to be served with champagne. No breads plate, bread is not necessary because of the charcuterie. Water is necessary, ask for coffee if you want,at that time, a coffee cup will be provided along with a jug of coffee and necessary condiments.
How far apart are the place settings between you and your nearest partner to your left or right.??
Omg charger plate looks like my trophy 😂😂✌️
OMG thank you so much.. I need this for school.. thank you
LuvMeLikeYouDo same our english teacher made us do it like this 😐
Where did you purchase those BEAUTIFUL dishes?
I got these over 30 years ago as a wedding gift!
WOW only one person will take the whole table with so many plates, silverware and glasses.
No More 😂😂😂
Lol 😂😂😂 it's 4 one fuckin person
🎅damn
Beautiful and very inviting......
Helpful video,
Very nicely done
I would like to know all this to set the table for lunch
There are two forks but only one knife. What knife will I use to cut my salad? If I use the one knife to cut my salad, I will not have a knife to cut my entree with.
The tea or coffee cup handle should be at 5 O' clock position. And Everything is correct.
Napkin should be folded nicely and put on the plate.
How many inches is the distance of the cutleries from the plates
Thank you for your table setting instructions.
A, thats not a soup spoon. B, thats a butter knife. C, coffee is drunk from a coffee cup, not a tea cup, which is called a “cup and saucer”....
tea cup.....handle at 3pm setting and the teaspoon on sauser at 6p setting.
I want to do this in our cooking contest but I don't have enough materials but I'll get an idea guys wish me good luck
how'd it go?
Good luck
Very nice Ruthie
This is very informative thanks! But dang I never knew people have coffee after dessert?? I wouldn’t make it past the bread and salad and I’d be full lol
as for me based of what i have learned during college days , the TEACUp should be placed in the right corner facing the handle to 4'clock . (Just MYthought)...
Thank you so much!!
The tea spoon shouldn't be there at all. Eventually, maybe in America
Agree tea spoon should be on right side of tea cup on the saucer with the cup handle turned to the right. After using tea spoon place on saucer to the top with tip facing left and handle facing right
Love, love, love your videos! Thank you so much for the enlightenment
Very beautiful interesting table setting but to many to wash
Please set a table for a three coarse meal for me, I need it for my exam on Sunday

This is called formal table setting. I didn't hear anything about being american setup
Thanks for the help
Love it!!! Thanks
Love from India
Salad knife ?? Soup spoon but no bowl ?
The thumb rule for utensils, the handle of coffee cup should be in 4 o' clock.
Can someone tell me where this beautifull, smart lady came from? What school do you come from? Because i want to go to that same school. You should be an inside designer. 🤗❤😇😚
India ha ha ha

You gonna have more than one food so you can't use the same utensils to eat...
Maryan Mohamed starter main course.
You never answered my question, in my second comment, about where to put the dessert knife.
Actually it depends with the your dessert, if the dessert were cake, you should put the dessert spoon and dessert fork, if your dessert is pudding then you should put only dessert spoon.
I'm sorry for the my bad grammar, I hope this comment useful for you (✿❛◡❛)
water glass or goblet glass should be on top of the table knife
\
Why not folding the napkin in a fancy way?
This is just for information of placements.
thanks for sharing
Thanks for the tips, but that is the ugliest charger I've ever seen.
I made it myself for this diy video: ua-cam.com/video/KWln0sSeJ0s/v-deo.html. A lot of people love it...but we all have different taste!😉
I watched the charger video. Still not my cup of tea, but a high kudos to your ingenuity.

Thanks! There's no knife next to the desert fork and spoon, but you can put a smaller knife to the right of the dinner knives.
To the right of the dinner knife??? Ah........OK, thanks.
hey baby u fine
hello is this french table seting???

i don't think u put the bread knife in a correct position
Show me how to hold the cutlery,,,
Looks great but that's a lot of wine😁.🤢🤢Thanks for your time💕🙏
There can never be too much wine!!! :-D
Cup is no in a write order
its so pretty
that's not a "salade" plate, but, the desert plate!
This setup logic
water glass first before wine glass
not the reverse
the way u handle the cutleries and dinner wears is wrong
No it is white wine red wine water glass and champagne if you r having just think of a 7. White red champ and water glass to the top of the seven
What if I wanna have salad along with main course??
Just sit your salad plate to the side of your dinner plate. But if you are having a formal dinner the salad is usually brought out before the main course.
What is the purpose of a charger?
The charger is just for decoration. It adds a little style and dresses up the table.
Back in the day it was a drip plate. It was used to catch any spills so it does not get on the table or table cloth.. rule of thumb if u are using a table cloth on the table no need for a charger with placemats. If using placemats with table cloth no need for charger
I can imagine serving a family dinner.. No dish washer in the house.. But uuf
you have a beautiful voice
thank you
TFS!

tnx for your nice setup ..but it's need to be better and beautifully
👍
Thankyou mam
Est ce que je peux servir du the dans un bufet
Oui. La tasse de thé doit être au-dessus ou à droite de la cuillère à soupe.
I hate washing dishes.
This set up is wrong , please go and visit your notes!!!!!!!
Who has time for all that?
2:06 , why did you do that? HAHAHA . Not so nice.
